Discussion What are your thoughts on this?
Two white men—one South African and one American—have a conversation about alleged “white genocide” and racism against white South Africans. The entire exchange feels surreal when, at the same time, nearly 2,000 Ghanaians have been evacuated from South Africa amid xenophobic violence targeting African migrants. It raises an uncomfortable question: How do we talk honestly about race, racism and persecution in South Africa when the reality on the ground is far more complicated than the narratives dominating the international conversation? What do you make of all of this?

Discussion The U.S. was the only country to vote against showing Africa at its true relative size. Estonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Moldova, Serbia & Ukraine abstained—even as African nations like Ghana support some of them through trade, diplomacy and international backing. 164 voted YES.
The United States was the only country to vote against a UN resolution supporting maps that show Africa at its true relative size.
Estonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Moldova, Serbia, and Ukraine abstained.
That’s despite African countries maintaining diplomatic, economic, and political relationships with several of them. Ghana, for example, has repeatedly supported Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity on the international stage and has also backed Serbia on issues concerning its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
African countries trade with these nations, cooperate with them, educate their citizens, support them diplomatically, and maintain partnerships with them.
Yet when African nations asked the world to support a more geographically accurate representation of their continent, these six countries could not vote yes.
164 countries voted in favor.
6 abstained.
Only 1 voted against: the United States.
