Announcement We Now Have an Additional Moderator

Hi everyone. I just wanted to let everyone know that we now have an additional moderator. Everyone please congratulate u/Folkvore and please be respectful towards them.

iMac and I are both still mods as well, but between the group having gotten bigger and some changes in our schedules and such in our lives offline it was becoming too much for a team of two and we really needed a third person.

Thanks so much everyone.

Discussion Isn't it concerning to anyone how younger generations do not like to read or write?

I am referring to the generations who are ages 18-21 or below. Not Gen Z.

I feel like in maybe another 500 years or so, we will have a generation who doesn't read at all. Every type of information will be used with videos or technology and books will become extinct. It will start off as a gentle "Well I just don't enjoy reading" into 'I'll never read anything, I hate it". We will just depend on AI for everything and no longer be able to use our brains at all. Socializing will become more and more difficult. Finding someone who is charismatic and socially intelligent will be rare. Everyone will become extremely difficult to talk to.

Discussion Any early 90s babies here (1990-1994) who actually watched iCarly (faithfully)

Post image
26 Upvotes

Drake and Josh was my all time favorite… I loved iCarly but I did feel too old for it sometimes when I used to watch it, I had some friends who thought I was childish for faithfully watching iCarly. I was 14-19 during its run. I probably stop watching (naturally) around 2008/2009.

Drake and Josh I feel was more targeted for us young millennials.

Any early 90s borns iCarly fans

Discussion Millennials, what do you think are the biggest flaws of your own generation?

I'm sorry if my English is not good, but it's not my first language. I've noticed that a lot of criticism of millennials comes from other generations, so I was curious about what you guys think are your biggest flaws and about whether you agree with some of the criticism made by other gens

Rant Gen Z: Rack Your Weights

I’m not usually one of those “X Generation Does XYZ Thing” because I usually feel that the differences tend to be overblown and caricatured. The only thing I have really noticed is the fact that Gen Z does really struggles with is understanding proper gym etiquette. I lift at a university gym in the US, and I see undergraduate students leaving weights on machines, barbells, etc at least 8-10x per daily lifting session. Cmon y’all, you can do better than that.

Poll Do you identify with your generation?

To tell the truth, I was born in 2000 and used to identify myself as a Zillennial earlier. My opinion have changed and I reached to the point where I don't need any generational labels. My personality matters me more than some generation naming (Millennial, Zillennial, Gen Z, etc). I realized there is no generational label that accurately describes my experiences.

What about you? Do you think a generation fits your upbringing?

I think it’s a unique concept even though some of it is stereotypically cringe but some influencers try to be as realistic as possible. Here’s a few I like btw

Discussion Is there anyone else who completely checked out, maybe like twenty years ago, and doesn't see the cultural differences between different decades?

I was born in '94. Honestly, I get confused when I hear people say things like, "Man, 2016 was a vibe; you had to be there" or "I feel like I'm back in 2010 right now." I really don't see any meaningful cultural differences between, like, two decades ago and now. It's all the same shit to me. I don't even notice much of a difference in basic stuff like fashion, music, etc.

I mean, yeah, technology has certainly progressed, but I don't think people act drastically differently, and it doesn't feel like a separate era or anything. In 2010, I was screwing around on Reddit, playing the piano, reading books, watching movies, etc. I'm still doing pretty much the same thing now. I struggle to look back with any sense of nostalgia because it all just seems the same to me.

I'm kind of weird, though, and I've never used a lot of popular apps (never opened TikTok), so maybe I'm just not getting the nostalgia stuff fed into my algorithm that would make me notice the differences.

Discussion Did humanity really peak with millennials?

I have always heard on social media that millennials are the last peak of humanity and that everything has gone downhill from there after 2015. Do you think that humanity actually peaked with millennials and that it all went downhill after 2015?

Music 🎻 The '50s - The 40 best songs of the decade in Argentine rock [AR Awards: 1st archedition]

The 1950s brought the birth of Argentine rock, a long tradition that continues to this day. The new rhythm, danceable and explosive, was an instant hit in the country.

The first Argentine rockers were excellent artists with great virtuosity, who had been performing jazz and other genres in the so-called "orquestas características".

There were bold pioneers like Eddie Pequenino, great masters like Tullio Gallo, guitar heroes like Oscar Alemán, and young stars like Billy Cafaro.

Groups with powerful voices like Los Cinco Latinos, groups with pretty voices like Los Santos, and classically trained singers like Edith Scandro. Come and listen!

This video of the events in 2012 encapsulates some of spirit of that time and was most likely made by millennials. It was at the height of millennial optimism and tumblr era just before instagram and tinder really took off in popularity among the general public.

Discussion Zillennial

I was born in 1998. Grew up thinking I was a millennial. Read a few things saying Gen Z starts in ‘97 🤷‍♀️ I still am unsure. This is where I heard the term “zillennial” it works for me bc I do feel very similar to both sides. A cusp baby, if you will. I would say I lean towards Gen Z but I know people my age who lean towards millennial.

Anyways, I’m more here to talk about where that exists in previous generations.

Anyone here that’s millennial/Gen X/boomer? Was there a similar in between generation that felt a little split between the two? There wasn’t social media to create a term for it.

EDIT: I wonder if the newest gens will have a similar thing happen like pre ai vs post ai
