Fun Fact: A year on Venus is shorter than a single day on Venus.

Thumbnail en.wikipedia.org

Venus has an extremely slow rotation on its axis, taking about 243 Earth days to complete just one full spin. However, it only takes about 225 Earth days for Venus to complete a full orbit around the Sun.

To make things even weirder, Venus spins in the opposite direction of most planets (retrograde rotation), meaning if you were standing on its surface, the Sun would rise in the west and set in the east!

Did you know that in 2014, a student in Australia accidentally received an unlimited overdraft from her bank and spent $4.6M on luxury items before being caught?

When Westpac Bank mistakenly gave chemical engineering student Christine Jiaxin Lee an unlimited overdraft, she spent around A$4.6 million over 11 months on designer handbags, jewelry, and luxury clothes. When the bank discovered the error, she was arrested at Sydney Airport in 2016 while attempting to fly home to Malaysia. However, in 2017, all criminal charges against her were dropped because her legal team successfully argued that she did not commit fraud and that the bank simply made the error itself.

Did you know that we have found the sample in Fazers by MF DOOM?

I would like to say, first off, congratulations to the sample finder u/marianorajoy. You have made my life complete, knowing what might as well be the last main unidentified MF DOOM sample is found. Also, 2026 was a great year for sample finding, wasn't it? We found the Tammy cover (it was a re-recording from 1974) used in A Different Feeling by the Avalanches, the organ in Tonight by that same band (Face to Face by Mr. Eugene Clark), the clock tick in Midnight in a Perfect World by DJ Shadow (Small Clock or Pocket Watch Ticking from EMI sound library) and now this! Wowee, I've never been so shocked in my life!!!

Something tells me we're getting closer to finding the sought-after samples of the Avalanches' debut album, and other plunderphonics albums too. MF DOOM is not necessarily plunderphonics, but he still has a few unidentified samples for others to find, and maybe you can find a sample. Once again, congrats to u/marianorajoy for ending a 23-year-long search.

Did you know many movies make about the same amount of money (if not more) as the amount Russia sold Alaska to the U.S?

Russia sold Alaska to the U.S for $7.2 million then, which now is the equivalent of $132 million.

For comparison, Supergirl was received less than "well" and still earned nearly $130 million.

It was an homage to Fats Domino who was popular at the time. Obvious, I guess, but I didn't know it until someone pointed it out to me.

No such inscription ever existed. Sensationalist journalists fabricated the curse after financial backer Lord Carnarvon died from an infected mosquito bite four months after the 1922 discovery. Scientific studies later showed that people who visited the excavation did not have a higher risk of early death

Fun fact: Around 25% of people sneeze when stepping into bright sunlight, and it's an inherited glitch called ACHOO syndrome

It’s caused by optical nerve signals accidentally "bleeding" into the adjacent trigeminal nerve that controls nasal reflexes. Our brains basically confuse bright light with something tickling the nose.

Found the neurological explanation behind the reflex here:
