Announcement!! New rules on /r/fractals - Please Read!!
Hello, everybody!
I'm /u/-Fateless-, and I am the new moderator of /r/fractals ! I was granted this position by /u/mycorrhizalnetwork because I am quite a bit more active on reddit, and together, we've made a short little list of rules for the subreddit.
In practice, nothing much changed, and most of you can carry on posting like nothing has happened, but we still thought it would be a good idea to properly announce a set of very basic, formal rules for the subreddit.
1: This subreddit is for fractals, discussion about fractals and fractal-related stuff.
If it's at least somewhat related to fractals, it gets a pass. Examples include space-filling curves, pictures of fractal patterns in nature or questions about fractals, fractal art or fractal software.
We do consider attractors, chaotic fluid simulations (gnarls), fractal noise (fBm, sfBm, other noise algoritms), curves and the ilk as fractals, as long as they can somehow be represented inside a fractal renderer.
2: No AI Generated stuff. This includes AI-generated "fractals", AI-generated comments and AI-generated articles.
The official stance of /r/fractals is that AI-Generated content does not belong here, and AI-Generated pictures of fractals are not fractals, despite looking similar to the untrained eye.
3: No Metaphysical/Spiritual content
Any discussion or blog post that starts reading like New-Age nonsense or talk about things like "Divine Mathematics" or "Fractal Soul Matrix" will be removed on the spot.
In most cases, I will remove the offending posts on the spot when I see them, but don't be afraid of reporting off-topic or rule-breaking posts so they're easier to spot in the moderator queue. I have added these categories as reportable, so if anything pops up, please do report it!
If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask!

About the automated removals on the subreddit
Hey guys, Fate here!
Lately, I have been getting a lot of mod mail about posts that have been automatically removed, and I have spent some time looking into this.
Over the past half year, roughly 95% of all removals of posts and comments have been automated from reddit's side, and not removed by any of the mods.
They are all tagged as "removed", but do not have any username attached to them, and for some reason, a lot of posts are flagged for triggering the sexual content filter of all things.
If you feel like a post has been taken down automatically, do send us a mod mail and we'll take a look at it on a case-by-case basis and manually approve what has been filtered.

Fractal Explorer
Hi everyone,
I have developed a browser based Fractal explorer that covers a few different fractals:
https://openworldlab.org/fun/fractals
I'm hoping people in this subreddit will find it useful.
This is the initial release and might contain some bugs. Do provide feedback and feature suggestions.

Mandala-Head
Jim Muth's Fractal of the Day for October 19th, 2011
Jim Muth's commentary for the image:
FOTD -- October 19, 2011 (Rating 8)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
For today's image I turned to a built-in Fractint formula, the type=manzzpwr, a formula I rarely if ever bring up, which on every iteration raises Z to the power of previous Z then adds Zn. In today's image 'n' equals -12. After a few minutes of tweaking and experimenting with the formula, I turned up today's image, which for obvious reasons I named "Mandala-Head". The image resembles one of those surreal paintings by Rene Magritte in which people have things such as apples where their heads and faces would be expected. Today's image has a mandala instead of a head.
(A mandala is a devotional symbol representing the eternal cycles that fill the universe, especially the cycle of birth and death believed in by most eastern religions but considered heathen doctrine by the western religions, where the doctrine of only one chance to achieve salvation is accepted as truth.)
Most of the image's effect was achieved by rendering the scene with both the inside and outside parts set to 'atan'. The peach-turquoise color scheme adds to the effect, since the peach areas somewhat resemble the color of skin.
The rating of an 8 might be a little liberal, but why not, since today I'm in one of my more liberal moods. And there will be no trouble at all with the calculation, since the time is a fireball-fast 25 seconds.
The day began with clouds and mist here at Fractal Central. The foul weather continued for the rest of the day, never quite dry and never quite wet. The fractal cats approved of the temperature of 66F 19C, but Cassie approved a bit too much when she took her claws to the upholstery of the new chair and got herself scolded.
The humans had another near normal day, with nothing out of the ordinary to report. The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours.
I'll leave it to the individual fractalist to figure where it will appear from. Until then, take care, and if reincarnation is true, then about half the people on earth hold false beliefs; if it is false, then the other half hold false beliefs. In either case, the religious beliefs of at least half the people on earth are false.Jim Muth

A clean room modern implementation of Fractint
If you ever wanted a Windows version of Fractint that has feature parity with the DOS version and XFractint, here's FractalForge. https://github.com/platypuscreations/FractalForge/releases
Also has Linux and Mac versions, with both an msi installer and portable versions for Windows.
Not mine, just sharing the work of the person who did this, without using any Fractint source code.

Power cycle Julia set
This is a Julia set, but instead of using just z = z^2 + c, it uses z = z^p + c, where the power, p, cycles through {2, 2i, -2, -2i}, so the same power is used every fourth iteration.

Mandelbrot Boundary
I still find it fascinating how the boundary of the Mandelbrot set beginns to mimick the bulbs deeper in the seahorse / spiral vally. In the cepter vally this also holds, but with the additional "cepters".
