I built a free map for calm bike routes around Fort Collins (it started with rides to the Poudre Trail with my son in a trailer)
I'm a Fort Collins dad of a toddler.
Riding to the Poudre Trail with my son in a trailer, the trail itself was never the hard part. Getting to it from our house without a stretch of Taft Hill Rd or a busy crossing was. A painted bike lane next to 18-wheelers just isn't for me with a kid behind me.
So I built Trazo, a free route planner that picks the calm way. It grades every street by traffic stress, steers around busy crossings that have no signal, and shows how much of each route is off-street. You choose With kids, Relaxed or Anything, and Paved only if you want.
Try it on a ride you already know, like your commute or the way to school, and see if it finds a calmer way than the one you take now.
If you just want a ride, pick a distance and it builds loops that start and end where you are. 8 miles from Rolland Moore gives three loops in different directions, each 62–73% off-street, with the climbing shown before you go.
It also does turn-by-turn on your phone and works as an app from your home screen. It covers Fort Collins, Loveland, Timnath and Wellington. Free, no ads, no account.
The Feedback button in the app comes straight to me, and I fix it within days.
