Potentially hosting a house show

• Upvotes

Hey all, I know FoCo is a big music town and that house shows are a pretty popular way to see local artists. I want to host a house show next month but I don’t know the first thing about what is needed for a successful event. If you could, please let me know what things makes a house show great - in terms of band setup, audience layout, general rules, etc.

Also, if you are a local band or know a local band, I’d love to get in touch to talk about possibly have you/them perform!

Beware: Predatory Roofing Company

I’m going to start this a bit weird after you’ve read the title: my husband runs a roofing company in Fort Collins.

He told me a story today about how he quoted a gal roughly 50k for a new roof plus other trades areas that needed taken care of for her home. The homeowner was relieved. Why would a homeowner be relieved about a 50k home maintenance bill, you ask? Because she received a different quote from the Renewal by Andersen of roofing companies. This predatory roofing company is based out of Denver — Erie Roofing. Erie Roofing quoted her $190,000 for the exact same job.

Just want to give a heads up to the community. This woman was going to be taken advantage of if she didn’t look for additional quotes.

Oct 24th and 25th- Fort Collins Artist Studio Tour and Sale

Hi FoCo neighbors- I just wanted to spotlight an event around town this weekend. 76 total art studios of every type are opening doors.

https://fcgov.maps.arcgis.com/apps/instant/attachmentviewer/index.html?appid=d10a4ecaf5f34f07bfa0d2b09dc74e3e

The Fort Collins City Pottery Studio (located by City Park) will have live demos, studio tours, and a handful of potters selling what we've made. Added a picture of what I've personally been working on which is "a rainbow of charcuterie boards".

No matter where you support and potentially shop- there will be creators at each who have been working hard and making some amazing art. Please consider supporting this weekend whether just taking tours, appreciating what we've made or buying pieces ahead of the holidays... your local creators appreciate it!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Film club in FoCo

Hey there, I just moved here a few months ago and I have been looking around for any film or movie clubs around town. It seems like the lyric is the closest thing to a movie club there is in FC but i thought I'd post to see if anyone knows about any. Thx!

I am looking for ongoing, reliable dog sitting/care for my reactive French bulldog who also has some separation anxiety

I need overnight care, daycare, and some nights. He is really a good boy he just has a few needs and I try to be there for him whenever possible but of course I can’t always be there and would love to find someone who preferably has no dogs of their own and are willing to deal with a Velcro pup. I would prefer sitting be located at my apartment, but I would be willing to discuss that with the right person.

Further info, I have tried boarding him before and it did not go well, and honestly made me feel really bad. I have also tried Rover, but it has never worked out.

Anyone who is interested I would love to start a conversation.

Found child’s backpack at Greyrock

I found a child’s backpack at the Greyrock parking lot yesterday. I would love to see if Reddit could work its magic and help me get it back to its rightful owner. There are a number of items inside (unfortunately no names) that could be identified.

TOD with Larimer County?

Has anyone filed a TOD with Larimer County for their property? They don't have an online form for this. Colorado law allows it, and some other counties do have forms. I wanted to see if anyone has recent experience before I modify a form from another county and go down there. The person on the phone didn't know anything about it.

I built a free map for calm bike routes around Fort Collins (it started with rides to the Poudre Trail with my son in a trailer)

I'm a Fort Collins dad of a toddler.

Riding to the Poudre Trail with my son in a trailer, the trail itself was never the hard part. Getting to it from our house without a stretch of Taft Hill Rd or a busy crossing was. A painted bike lane next to 18-wheelers just isn't for me with a kid behind me.

So I built Trazo, a free route planner that picks the calm way. It grades every street by traffic stress, steers around busy crossings that have no signal, and shows how much of each route is off-street. You choose With kids, Relaxed or Anything, and Paved only if you want.

trazo.bike/s/rfoco

Try it on a ride you already know, like your commute or the way to school, and see if it finds a calmer way than the one you take now.

If you just want a ride, pick a distance and it builds loops that start and end where you are. 8 miles from Rolland Moore gives three loops in different directions, each 62–73% off-street, with the climbing shown before you go.

It also does turn-by-turn on your phone and works as an app from your home screen. It covers Fort Collins, Loveland, Timnath and Wellington. Free, no ads, no account.

The Feedback button in the app comes straight to me, and I fix it within days.

Selfish post: is anybody hiring in FoCo?

Recent CSU BFA graduate, I have 7 years in food managerial duties/service/bartending, 2 in elder care, currently getting another certification in Art Therapy, but in the meantime I thought I’d just ask the community. I’ll do literally anything lol. After 12 interviews in two weeks and nothing much coming of it I thought you lovely folks might have some recommendations.

Friends / Meetups Looking for friends for my friend 25M

Hello,

My friend in Fort Collins is super lonely and seems to have a very hard time with finding friends. Was wondering if I could find him some people to talk with and hang out with because at the moment he is feeling very down about not having any friends in Fort Collins.

He's 25, SUPER kind and genuinely the best person I know. He tries HARD to be funny. A huge nerd and always out and about when not working. Goes to gym, does yoga etc. Loves movies and nature and everything really. So you would definitely get a very kind, loyal and great pal who will do anything with you if you ask!

Please comment if you're interested! Would love to talk.

Resources for evaluating Judges on ballot?

There are a number of judges on our ballot this year. What resources exist to learn about them so we can decide how to vote?

In a prior election, I feel like someone shared a link to their peer evaluations.

Events The Board Game Comedy Tour (Oct. 25 in Fort Collins)

Hi! I hope this is OK to share: My friend's comedy act is headed to Fort Collins. The Board Game Comedy Tour is a family-friendly show (though this venue is only for ages 21+) put on by professional comedian Grant Lyon (his album "Scheduled Fun Time" reached #1 on iTunes) and revolves around his favorite hobby: board gaming (no board gaming knowledge necessary to enjoy his act, though).

Thanks!

Indoor Climbing in Town/County

I’m looking to get into indoor rock climbing and seeking any input/advice as to what’s available locally and where to start. I can just use google but I thought some personal insights might be more valuable.
I’ve done plenty of rock scrambling but I don’t believe I’ve ever been to an indoor facility, so I’d need to learn how to belay and acquire whatever equipment and knowledge necessary, etc. I’m assuming it’s something you can eventually go and do on your own without support, but I know very little about it.
I have no interest in climbing out in nature- this would purely be an indoor activity for exercise and recreation. I’m not a huge risk taker or adrenaline junky.
Thanks!

Vintage Corporation are MAGA

One of the regional managers told me the owners of Vintage Corporation Property Management are major MAGA. They also go to Africa and hunt big game. They won’t spend money on anything that matters. They just want trophy heads on the wall.
