Help Needed Hainan Airlines – any success with rebooking or refunds? Please share tips and contact details

Hi guys,

I've seen quite a few posts about Hainan Airlines cancelling flights between the UK/Europe and Beijing, and it seems really difficult to reach their customer service.

I booked directly with Hainan, flying from Manchester to Bangkok via Beijing on 12 November. Writing this on 23 October, I'm getting a bit worried.

A few questions for anyone in the same situation:

  1. If my Manchester–Beijing flight is cancelled but Beijing–Bangkok is still operating, can I rebook both flights for another date?
  2. My return flight is on 24 November. I can't check its status, and it doesn't seem to be available to book on their website. Does this mean it's likely to be cancelled too?
  3. I've seen people mention [bzchbcl@hnair.com](mailto:bzchbcl@hnair.com). Is this the best email to use, or is there another way to contact them?
  4. If I want a refund, can I apply through the online refund option on their website? Has anyone successfully received one this way?

If anyone has managed to rebook or get a refund recently, please share your experience and any useful contact details. Thanks!

Question Info on this Icon

I'm seeing this icon when selecting a seat on Thai Airways. I tried searching Google and asking LLMs, but I'm getting conflicting info—some say the seat doesn't recline, while others say there's no under-seat storage. Any idea what this actually means?

Complaint How can an airline be so good with its planes and cabin service, yet so terrible (even downright appalling) at customer service, both online and on the ground (EVA Air) ?

The account I’m giving is inevitably biased, since I’m stuck in Taipei because of Typhoon Champi (was able to complete the first segment, second was cancelled). I completely understand that this isn’t the airline’s fault—no complaints about that.

But there’s no information at all (I do not even talk about any form of assistance, I understood quite early in the process that their wouldn’t be any). For two days, I’ve been trying to find out what happens next. I’m sent to a website that doesn’t work (I can’t access it even though I booked directly with Eva Air), and after asking enough questions, I’m told to come to the airport today. It’s impossible to get any help over the phone, no matter which number I call. Their chatbot says there’s a “human” live chat online, but of course, it doesn’t exist. Their website looks like it came straight out of 2009.

So, with no other options, I’m heading to the airport this morning.

Just imagine: THE national airline, THE country’s largest airport, and… two people handling rebookings/flights reschedules for all economy-class passengers. 165 people have been seen since 8 a.m., and there are still more than 200 waiting.

All of this is even more disappointing because every other aspect of the service is absolutely impeccable. The planes are state-of-the-art, economy class is perfectly decent, the food is pretty good, and the terms and conditions and fares are perfectly reasonable…

Delays/Cancellations/Compensation Flight compensation under EU reg

Hi all, has anyone tried to claim compensation from lufthansa for a delayed flight.

I was recently scheduled for a flight to Frankfurt from BLR and while taxiing to the runway the engine failed. We were held on the plane for 3 hours before being bussed to a hotel. I had to get alternative accommodation for 16.5hrs later. I submitted my claim to Lufthansa but they replied to say I am not due compensation as the delay was less than 3 hours!

What?? Did they even read it? I was bussed to a hotel, provided breakfast, lunch and dinner, and had an alternative flight for 16.5 hours later.

Do they just not read them? Or are they trying to be difficult hoping I'll go away? Feels like a complete injustice as this is a cut and dry case.

Trip Report Air Premia EWR > ICN

By far the worst experience. My mom goes to Seoul every year for 3-4 weeks and has taken Korean Air. She’s never had an issue, no delays, cancellations, double booking, etc.

This year, we heard about AP and that it was inexpensive but still a comfortable experience. We got in Thursday 5AM. The flight was fine, the food was mediocre, but it is now Friday evening and our bags are still not here. We were promised that our luggage would be delivered directly to us by this afternoon.

We were told, after a 15HR flight mind you, that 60% of check-in bags did not make it on the flight. My mom and I were one of the first groups to check in for their flight, so it’s not we made our flight last second and our bags didn’t make it. Our bags should’ve been one of the first ones loaded.

My cousin gave his number to AP to stay updated on luggage but they kept changing/pushing back the time we can expect our stuff. We still don’t have our luggage, which is where my mom’s medications are. We had to stop our day short due to her getting dizzy from not being able to take meds.

I’m never fcking taking Air Premia ever again. I’d be shocked if they’re still in business in 2 years.

Question How far would you go to save $190?

Post image
33 Upvotes

no checked in bag, plenty of transfer time, I love flying and I will be able to discover Bogota for a few hours but my mind is telling me no.

Edit: Alright, I'm not doing it. The thought of it was nice, having a bit of an adventure, first time flying to South America, while saving some money, but your comments brought me back to reality. It's not worth the trouble and all the traveling. Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions. I'm going to spend a little bit more for a less stressful and quicker experience.

Question Air China baggage allowance confusion after booking through Agoda — Will I have problems at the airport? Please help!!

Hi everyone! I need some advice about my upcoming Air China flight. I'm really stressed about my checked baggage allowance.

I booked two passengers' round-trip tickets through Agoda. Our itinerary is:

- Busan (PUS) → Beijing (PEK) → Dhaka (DAC)

- Dhaka (DAC) → Beijing (PEK) → Busan (PUS)

Our tickets have already been issued.

The problem is that Agoda's email and our issued ticket information appeared to show that we had no free checked baggage allowance, only 5 kg of cabin baggage.

I tried to add checked baggage through Agoda and Air China's website, but I couldn't resolve the issue. I also couldn't retrieve our booking on Air China's website.

Yesterday, we went to the airport and spoke to an Air China duty manager. He checked our tickets in the airport's computer system and explicitly told us that we each have one free checked bag weighing up to 23 kg. He also showed us this information on his computer.

However, I'm still worried because the information on Agoda seems to contradict what the airport manager told us.

My questions are:

  1. If the airport manager confirmed one free checked bag of up to 23 kg per passenger in the airline's system, can I generally trust that confirmation?

  2. Could there still be a problem when we check in on the day of departure?

  3. Does anyone have experience with Air China tickets booked through Agoda where the baggage allowance shown on the ticket differed from what the airport staff saw in their system?

  4. Is there a way to independently verify the baggage allowance for all four flight segments, including the connecting flights through Beijing?

I don't want to pay for extra baggage unnecessarily, but I also don't want to arrive at the airport and discover that we have to pay unexpectedly.

I'd really appreciate advice from anyone who has experienced something similar. Thank you!

Delays/Cancellations/Compensation Lufthansa cancelled how do i actually claim flight delay money

LH400 frankfurt to jfk got cancelled the day of due to the ground staff strike, found out through the app about 6 hrs before departure, got rebooked on a flight 2 days later which messed up the first two days of a trip we had planned.

i know strikes get argued as “extraordinary circumstances” sometimes to avoid paying compensation but i think staff strikes specifically don't count the same way weather does, something about it being an internal labor issue not truly outside the airlines control
i did hear about some sites that handle this for you, one was gyra or gyro idk, and airhelp, and i think there were a couple others. haven't looked into any of them yet.

Help Needed Sunexpress refusing to check my bag even though I paid for it?

This happened at Munich Airport with a Sunexpress flight to Turkey.

Has anyone experienced this before? I’m flabbergasted.

I went to the checkin counter and said «I’m already checked in online, but I would like to check my in my bag». The woman in the counter had a relatively unintelligible English, but the gist of the conversation was that she felt like my bag was too small, it could probably go through the security control and it can count as a carry-on baggage instead. I said no, I wanted to check it in since I didn’t want to carry it around and babysit the bag. She rolled her eyes and printed a label for my bag and told me to move on. I.E. she printed to checked bag label, put it on my bag, didn’t take the bag and told me to just go to the security check. The guy at the security check said that she was supposed to take it if the bag was checked, but they won’t check it because it’s too small.

I’m pissed, since I paid for check baggage, and they just refused to let me have this service??

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Can I get a refund for this? I seriously don’t want to pay for checked luggage if they’re just going to refuse to take it… I tried calling their customer service number but it automatically just hangs up on me, so it’s impossible to contact them.

Edit: Forgot to mention the size. It’s about 50cm in length, 30cm in width, 30cm in height. It’s about the size of a full carry-on luggage. However, it has shoulder straps, so it can look like a backpack when I have it on my back. I’ve used it as both checked and carry-on before. At one point it almost didn’t pass the carry-on inspection with EasyJet, so it’s not abnormally small like a handbag.

Discussion Why are American flight attendants so rude?

This isn’t something I noticed until I started flying internationally, but American flight attendants on Delta, United, AA, and especially the low cost carriers are so rude and inhospitable these days. Its like they’re looking to throw people off the plane for the smallest reason.

I’ve flown EVA Air, Thai Airways, Cathay Pacific, ANA and the improvement in service and friendliness is night and day. Can’t speak on European carriers but at least in the United States I find the flight crew to be consistently terrible

Question Any risk of booking too close to departure date?

Is there any risk related to booking too close to the departure date?

Like booking 2 months in advance VS 3 weeks in advance, for example. Like maybe overbooking, cancelations, etc

Despite the price cost of course.

Help Needed Saudi Airlines Name Mismatch: Should I Travel or Cancel My Ticket?

Hi guys, is there anyone here who works for Saudi Airlines or has faced a similar situation?

I booked a ticket from Pakistan to Bali, but I made a mistake while entering my name. I wrote my first name correctly, but my surname on my passport is Abdul Ahad, and I accidentally wrote only Ahad, forgetting to add Abdul.

A few people have told me that I might get offloaded because of this. I visited the Saudi Airlines office in Pakistan, and they said they couldn’t add Abdul to my ticket. However, they gave me a printout with remarks stating that I’m eligible to travel, but I’m still not comfortable relying on that.

I also contacted Saudi Airlines in Saudi Arabia, but they weren’t very helpful. They said I could either cancel the ticket or try my luck, as they can only add up to three letters.

What would you guys recommend? Should I travel with the ticket and the remarks provided by the Karachi office, or should I cancel it? Is missing one part of my surname really that big of an issue? I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has experience with this. Thank you!

Help Needed My Flight Was Delayed, I Missed 2 Exams, and Now I’m Losing $450… Is This Fair?

Hi everyone! I'm a student, and I need advice.

My Air North flight was delayed twice, and the total delay ended up being around 4.5 hours, so I ended up not taking the flight because it was too late for me to take the exams, and I missed 2 exams. Now I have to travel again for my rescheduled exams.

My flight refund request with Trip.com was rejected because they said I didn’t cancel the flight before departure but i did. Later, they said I was rejected because the delay was 181 minutes, missing the 3-hour requirement by just 1 minute lol, because I accepted the first delay. So they didn’t count it.

I asked the airline, and they told me to tell Trip.com to contact them again to request a refund. And they rejected my compensation request.

But because of this, I missed the exams and need to book a new round-trip flight, which could cost $250+, plus accommodation of $80+.

I would end up losing almost $450.

This is crazy for a student. And I now need to take these exams along with another exam, so in 3 days, I’ll end up with 3 exams and 1 midterm.

I’ll need to complain with cta but i dont think they will cover everything and my insurance is not covering this too.

I neeeeeeed advice please >,,<

Complaint "dynamic" pricing on flights... BS!

It should be illegal for airlines to change their prices while you're actively looking at flights. I was originally going to book using points, and the flight was 66,500 points. By the time I clicked checkout, it had jumped to 92,500 points!

So I figured I'd just pay for the flight and save my points. I went back to Travelocity, where I had originally found the flight, and GUESS WHAT?! The price had gone up there too!

It's absolutely ridiculous how these airlines get away with this. Fuck these airlines and their price gouging! any advice on how to get that same flight for cheaper than the 1,064.40?!

Question WiFi on Air China?

My boss recently signed off my annual leave, so I can travel to China. I can save £200 if I fly on the Friday but I’m supposed to be working and the flight leaves early in the morning. I’ve spoken to my manager who has said, she’s fine if I take the flight but I’ll just need to check emails and reply to clients where needed.

Which leads me to ask, how good is the WiFi service on AirChina (I’m happy to pay extra)? I’ve seen some not good reviews, so want to know if it’s as bad as people are saying because otherwise I’ll book another flight

Hi all! My family and I are planning a trip to Peru and wanted to do a group booking however there will only be 6 of us flying out first and then 2 additional people will join us a week later and all 8 of us will be flying back together. We’ve/ I’ve never planned a trip with this many people so any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Question Advice for person who has never flown Ryanair but curious

Thumbnail

Hey all,

I’m travelling to Europe early next year and am looking at flying between Talinn, Estonia (where my tour ends) and heading to London with Ryanair. As I’ll be going in winter and travelling from Australia for a few weeks, I’m wondering if it’s worth travelling with Ryanair if I’m paying for more package upfront and pray I’m not over the limit? Exactly how strict are they? Can you wear your coat on board and take it off or is this considered extra luggage?

(I know it’s not ideal for weather in winter but neither did summer looked terrible with all the intense heat waves and I get enough hot weather where I live anyway).

Is it worth the risk? Or would I be better off going with another European airline? Also, I’ve never been to Stansted before. Worth going considering it’s in Essex?

If it’s not worth going through Ryanair for my circumstances, would there be an airline (or airlines) people would recommend?

Delays/Cancellations/Compensation PSA you can claim for delays from years ago, i had no idea

genuinelyy mad i didn’t know this sooner lol.
so basically i had a ryanair flight last month that was 4 hours late and a coworker told me to claim it. went down a rabbit hole and found out under EU rules you can go back years, not just for recent flights. depends on the country but it’s like 3 to 6 years.
so i started thinking about every delay i just sat through and accepted bc i didn’t know any better. there’s definitely a few. a vueling one in 2024 where we sat on the tarmac forever, a wizz one where they cancelled the night before and i just took the next flight like an idiot problem is i don’t remember half the dates or flight numbers. my coworker said gyro can go through your email and pull up old flights, so i let it scan mine and it found 3 i’d completely forgotten about. haven’t heard back on any of them yet so can’t say how it goes, but even just finding them was more than i’d have done on my own anyway if you’ve ever had a long delay or a last minute cancellation in europe, go check. airlines are 100% counting on you not knowing this.

Question Can I bring my jet lighter on flight?

I’m flying from Turkey to Melbourne soon and i’ve brought a novelty lighter, it’s a blue flame/ jet lighter and i’m unsure if it’ll not be allowed on the flight- i’ve read mixed things and i’d hate to have brought it for nothing :(
