Recommendation Looking for a real terror film

I have never felt terror by a film since I grew up, but it is true I haven’t seen any good terror films so i was looking for one that it really is scary for the spooky season.

Any recommendations? What is the scariest movie you’ve ever seen?

Discussion Jessie or Celine—who was the one making things complicated?

Post image

In this film, Celine is emotionally exhausted. She uncovers various subtle details that she can use against Jessie. While Jesse wishes to rebuild their relationship, Celine systematically dismantles it. She twists his words, attributing meanings to them that he never intended, and uses these points to pick fights with him. the truth that life is not a fairy tale, but rather a harsh reality.

Discussion Movies I Love But Don't Have Any Reason To Bring Up Usually

Do you have any movies you love but there's no reason to bring them up when recommendation threads pop up? These are mine.

Manic (2001) - JGL, Don Cheadle, and Zooey Deschanel. It's a bit over the top but a character study at juvenile mental health facility.

He Was A Quiet Man (2007) - Christian Slater and Elisha Cuthbert, a black comedy fish out of water story about a would-be spree shooter turned "hero".

Spiral (2007} - Joel David Moore, Amber Tamblyn, and Zachary Levi. JDM knocks it out of the park, psychological thriller about a lone weirdo with dark fantasies, or are they?

1408 (2007) - I feel like pretty well known but not talked about, John Cusack in a Stephen Kind adaptation, super creepy.

Slither (2006) - Hilarious James Gunn horror-comedy with Nathan Fillion and Michael Booker, doesn't get enough love.

Eulogy (2004) - Black comedy with Ray Romano, Hank Azaria, and Zooey Deschanel. Just a messed up family and the awkwardness of the holiday.

Frailty (2001) - Bill Paxton stared and directed, also with Matthew McConaughey, crime thriller with a creepy abusive family.

Splice (2009) - When does science go too far? Also gets reallllllll messed up towards the end but I don't want to spoil anything.

Wristcutters: A Love Story (2006) - Super dark movie about purgatory basically and people trying to navigate it.

Edmond (2005) - A better version of Falling Down (1994) in my opinion, William H Macy just has had enough.

Death At A Funeral (2007) - Hilarious black comedy with Alan Tudyk and Peter Dinklage.

Four Brothers (2005) - Marky Mark, Tyrese, and Andre 3000 revenge movie. Silly, but good fun.

I Love You Philip Morris (2009) - Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor biographical gay romance, crime, dark comedy. If that doesn't intrigue you, I don't know what to say.

The Chumscrubber (2005) - One of my all-time favorites, a surreal, satirical look at suburban life, it's just odd and pleasant.

The Rules of Attraction (2002) - Everyone knows American Psycho, this is a much better Bret Easton Ellis adaptation in my opinion.

Safety Not Guaranteed (2012) - A silly, fun time-travel comedy-drama with Aubrey Plaza killing it and Mark Duplass, a surprising amount of heart.

The Creator (2023) - I feel like this movie came and went real quick, one of the best sci-fi films I've ever seen with John David Washington. It's got issues, but so does like Blade Runner.

Love Lies Bleeding (2024) - A crime-thriller that uhhh, goes places. I don't want to spoil anything. I love its gritty feel and it's kind of a throwback to steamy, sleezy movies but with a lead that isn't stereotypically hot.

The Dead Don't Die (2019) - Wonderful Jim Jaramusch take on zombie movies with Adam Driver and Bill Murray, a fun horror-comedy time.

High-Rise (2015) - Dystopian, surreal sci-fi starring Tom Hiddleston that's a lot of over the top social commentary

Do you like any of my picks or have any slept on movies that you'd like to talk about that you never really have a reason to?

Discussion What are your thoughts on Chinatown?

I remember seeing it a while back without a rewatch. I remember it surprisingly well. Its definitely incredible. The script is top notch. It goes from an adultery story to a mass conspiracy so effortlessly well. The acting was all great. Cross is so unnerving. The cinematography was beautiful. Still holds up to this day. Score is top notch too. And don’t even get me started on that twist. 9.5/10.

Meme / Funny You should watch "you can see everything" in the front row

Post image

A very thought provoking and great watch, but definitely scary at some points in the film. The whole movie was shot in close up face shots and this view was absolutely immaculate in the front row. I would highly recommend to watch in the very front in xd if you can. You really haven’t experienced cinema until someone’s nostrils take up your entire peripheral vision. Every facial expression becomes a major geographical event.

Like when we look back what films will be the face of 2026?

This can include everything from mainstream blockbusters to underrated films blowing up.

The Odyssey springs to mind immediately.

Discussion Which movie gets better every time you watch it?

Some movies are great on the first watch, but others hit differently when you come back to them. You start noticing details you missed, appreciate the writing more, or see the characters in a completely different light. Movies like Shutter Island, The Prestige, Fight Club, Goodfellas, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind come to mind for me, since there's always something new to appreciate or think about.
Which movie has gotten better for you with every rewatch, and how many times have you seen it?

Discussion I created a free, open-source browser extension to add IMDb and Letterboxd Ratings to your favourite streaming sites!

Its called streamBuddy - check it out on the chrome store here

It will also on Firefox soon, but store review is taking a while..

Currently it supports HBO Max, Amazon Prime, Netflix and Disney+, but I plan to add more streaming sites soon.

At the end of each movie, a small modal opens up when the credits start. It shows what your friends rated it and has a button that takes you straight to the film on Letterboxd so you can log it. Honestly, this is the bit I use most, and I'm way better at actually logging things now.

What else it does:

- Letterboxd ratings on movie posters, and IMDb ratings on shows

- Add your Letterboxd username and it also shows what the people you follow rated it, plus your own rating if you've already seen it

- IMDb scores for each episode when you're looking at a show

- Skips intros automatically if you want it to

It's still early, and I'm in Australia so that's where I've tested it most. If a rating lands on the wrong film or doesn't show up, let me know here or on GitHub (https://github.com/jgreen417/streambuddy/issues). If there's another streaming site you use, there's a "Request a service" link in the popup.A

I will be developing this quite actively so please reach out if there are any issues!

The extension was forked off of "Streaming enhanced Netflix Disney Prime Video", so big thanks to its developer.

(Not affiliated with Letterboxd, just a big fan.)

Discussion Rank The Indiana Jones Series

Rank all five in your order of preference.

I know this is unpopular and will probably get some downvotes, but for me, Temple Of Doom has always been my favorite and still is. Raiders is a very close second. I always dug TOD for it's much darker, creepier feeling compared to the others and how it gets so dark and intense. Raiders is of course an all-time classic and I'd never fault anyone for ranking it as number one. But TOD for me was like Indy on overload.

I enjoy the other three as well and find they're interchangable and my placement varies depending on my mood. I find the other three have their ups and downs. I like The Last Crusade a lot but not as much as some others do, Crystal Skull has grown on me a great deal since the initial disappointment back in 2008 and I enjoy it so much more now, and Dial Of Destiny was about as good as could've been hoped for and a worthy series finale.

I love the games I'm even contemplating reading roadside picnic, but I tried watching the film yesterday and was falling asleep by the time it went to colour.
