Serious Paywall Article Posting

The mod team has received a complaint from a journalist that their work, and the work of their colleagues, has been illegally reproduced in the subreddit. This is typically because the article is hidden behind a paywall. Unfortunately, paywalls exist. They suck, but that’s the nature of the business. Their work is copywrited and by posting the full article without expressed consent is copywrite infringement.

You can feel free to summarize the article, just don’t cut and paste the entirety of it verbatim.

Any posts or comments that violate this newly implemented rule will be deleted and repeat offenders will be dealt with.

Colvin’s voting block collapsed

At Monday’s city council meeting, Mayor Colvin’s Data Center voting block collapsed in spectacular fashion. Council member McMillan was able to advance a motion (6-4) for city staff to draft a data center moratorium which the council will vote on at an upcoming meeting.

The danger at the moment is that a voluntary annexation will be pushed through the zoning process to get the potential Data center property located in the county (where there is a moratorium) annexed into the city where there isn’t yet a moratorium before the city council is able to take action. If that happens, then we’ll know for certain that the fix was in and the mayor sold out the community.

The collapse of Colvin’s coalition means we’ll likely hear less from his smug self on WIDU talking about paid protesters and other GOP talking points. The undertaker is truly an undercover Republican.

Tax Amendments On Ballot Are Not a Tax Cut and Not What They Seem

Income tax cap: Lowers the existing cap from 7 to 3.5 percent

  • It is not a tax cut. It applies to both the corporate and personal rate. Both rates are already scheduled to be below 3.5 percent next year.
  • The NC General Assembly has been cutting income taxes for 13 years. This has disproportionately benefitted large corporations and those with very high incomes.
  • State revenue is falling as our population and costs grow. This is unsustainable and has led to underfunding of services and programs, and local governments paying for what are supposed to be state costs.
  • Income tax cuts lead to increases in fees and sales taxes, and cuts to vital public services.
  • The income tax amendment would lock us into this situation effectively permanently, so future lawmakers hands will be tied.
  • NC has never had a rate this low, and it will be locked into the constitution. This leaves the state unprepared for economic downturns and unforeseen circumstances like natural disasters.

Property Tax Levy Limit: Caps what local governments can collect, NOT your bill

  • It is not a cap on an individual’s property tax bill. It is a cap on the total revenue a local government can collect in property taxes.
  • State lawmakers already have the power to set a levy limit, so the constitutional amendment is not necessary.
  • Increasingly, local governments have been taking on costs that are supposed to be covered by the state and/or federal government. This amendment is likely to lead to service cuts as local governments struggle with state and local revenue constraints.
  • It does not address housing unaffordability and would disproportionately benefit large corporate landowners like tech companies and corporate landlords.
  • What the limit would be and how it would be derived is not public, so there is little recourse or accountability.

Before voting, consider the impact these amendments will have on your community:

  • Who would benefit from these changes and who would be negatively impacted?
  • What would these amendments mean for the funding of quality of life services my family and community rely on, like emergency services, community centers, libraries, public schools, water and sanitation…?
  • How would these revenue constraints impact the ability of the state and local governments to provide services for a growing or aging population and respond to natural disasters or other unforeseen circumstances in the future, especially as costs rise?
  • What are specific projects prioritized by our community that are most at risk for delay or cancellation if state funding is uncertain and local government cannot collect sufficient revenue from property taxes to supplement decreases in state investment?
  • How have state and federal funding levels changed over the last 5-10 years? What state funding responsibilities has my local government taken on over that same period?
  • What specific funding shortfalls are we experiencing now, including staffing shortages, school closures, or services interruptions?
  • What are the other methods of generating revenue if income tax and property tax revenue is constrained? Will our locality be forced to rely more on unpopular fees?

Downtown Calendar for OCT-DEC 2026

There are several Fall and Halloween events happening in Downtown Fayetteville. Which other Halloween Events are you aware of ?

For those zombies who do find themselves downtown right at dark- remember to stay on the sidewalks.

Many rumors are flying about showing up unofficially anyway, if so be safe.

Question Question.

I’m thinking of picking up doing either door dash or spark on the side for extra cash. In your opinion which do you feel is better and why? I’ve heard spark is better than door dash but I’ve also heard the opposite.

Question Recs needed! Where to swim/bike/run?

Hey y’all,

Aspiring triathlete moving to the area soon. I am looking for help on recommendations for spots to complete my sessions.

Specifically, what pools are around and have reliable lap swim hours (especially through the winter)? It seems there’s not a ton of options around, correct me if I’m wrong.

What roads are generally okay to bike on? Specific locations would be great. I’m alright with driving a little ways if needed; I’ve heard Fayetteville isn’t very bike friendly.

Lastly, any run routes I should put on the radar? I’m cool with paved, gravel, or trails.

I have base access as well if that is helpful as well. That would be especially convenient to be close to work.

TIA

Question Cunningham Mortuary experience?

I am in the unfortunate position of needing to have a loved one cremated and to have a memorial gathering in a month or so.

Does anyone have experience with Cunningham Mortuary on Raeford? They get a lot of praise in reviews but was hoping to see if anyone here has direct experience and can recommend them?

Thanks in advance.
