Points League Struggling to decide who to take with 19th pick in a 12-T Points League

Planning to go with Cade with 6th pick, but am unsure of who to go at pick 19. With a mix of guys like Giddey, Sabonis, Steph, Amen, Reaves, and Trae likely to be there, I'm not quite sure who to take.

Any thoughts?

EDIT: I agree that i hope Giddey falls, but if he doesnt who would ya’ll take?

Player Discussion Franz injury?

Surprised nobody is talking about this. Right now they're calling it "shoulder soreness". But we know that never means anything, especially when Sweeney gave no update and just said "to be re-evaluated".

Thought this dude was a steal. But maybe not so fast

Points League Is Sleeper Unpopular

Hey guys, first time poster. I’m starting a new league with friends. Pretty mixed with people who have and haven’t played FBB before. We made our league on sleeper (where I play FFB) and we’re doing a lock in league, but I see most creators and posts here revolve around ESPN. Is that pretty standard? Hard for me to find good creators who focus on scoring or ADP in sleeper.

Discussion Roto Trading

I am debating whether or not to even do a roto league because it seems impossible to do trades. In baseball, you may think "well I have way too much good starting pitching, so I can trade pitching for offense.," Then you lose nothing and gain categories. In basketball every player affects all 9 categories! Last year I had far, far, far more rebounds than even the 11 had and yet STILL I could not ever come up with a trade to do because if you trade off the rebounders then you are going to usually be losing fg, blocks, and low turnover rates.

I did finish 2nd, though, so i am still tempted to do a roto. But I don't know how any trading will ever be done without losing in multiple categories just to gain in 1 or 2.

Also, it feels like you about have to do auction and guarantee getting joker or wemby or you've likely lost any chance at first. In h2h you can win with any first round pick because it's random who happens to be good during fantasy playoffs.

Discussion Punt 3’s Thoughts | Pick 11 | 9 Cat | 3RR

I’ve had 3 pretty successful seasons punting blocks but looking at the draft list by ESPN adp (hilarious) it looks like punting 3’s could be an interesting strategy. Flagg, Barnes, Mobley, Kessler. Wanted to get this groups thoughts on if it’s viable. I’ve been seeing some great posts about different punt strategies and sounds like punt blocks or punt assists might be meta build

Why is nobody talking about this? He literally looks disengaged. The additions of Powell and Wilson are going to completely tank him.

Discussion Garland: This year’s Jordan Poole?

Garland and Poole shares similarities – poor efficiency/turnovers, and great threes/assists.

The environment they’re in is also similar – no supporting cast.

Is Garland overdrafted this year?

Player Discussion 12-team, 9-cat H2H Picking 10th overall. Who are you taking and how are you starting your build?

Who would you pick at the 10th? And who should I pair him with up with my 15th pick?

little skeptical on drafting Flagg, I feel like he isn’t established yet and there’s better players available. Kyrie is back lively and gafford are back as well so the usage isn’t going to be that high for coop.

dovovan Mitchell or Scottie Barnes as a 10th sounds soild but I’m not sure yet

Appreciate any tier lists, advice, or warnings you guys have!

Player Discussion 7th pick to target Tatum vs 8th pick for a better second-round option? [H2H 9-CAT]

Hey Reddit community,

I like JT’s combination of scoring, rebounds, threes and strong FT% impact. He feels like a flexible foundation who wouldn’t force me into a specific punt right away.
I can choose between the 7th and 8th draft slots, and I’m torn.

At 7, I’d be targeting JT, assuming the first six picks go as expected. At 8, I’m less sure who I’d want between Anthony Edwards, Cooper Flagg and Jalen Johnson. Each would lead me toward a different build, but I’d also get an earlier second-round pick in the snake.

Would you take the 7th slot to give yourself the best shot at Tatum, or prefer 8th for the potentially stronger two-player combination?
If you’re choosing 8th, who are you taking there, and who would you ideally pair him with in round 2? I’m especially interested in how you’d build around that duo, including FG% and FT%.

Discussion Got Wemby as your first pick? Great! Draft Chet Holmgren 2nd!!

I was blessed with the #2 pick in my NBA fantasy basketball draft, so I selected Wemby (first guy picked Jokic, obviously). The great thing about having this pick, is it pretty much guarantees you the chance to take Chet as your 2nd pick! Chet is usually ranking in the late 20's in most leagues, so there is a very high chance he will available for your 2nd round pick, which would be the #23 pick of the draft in a 12-team league.

True, there may be some other stronger names in front of Chet available, but having Wemby AND Chet makes you the KING of the BLOCKS!!! Unless both of these guys get hurt often, blocks are going to be a lock just about every week!

And, honestly, you're not giving up much in other categories by doing this. Sure, you aren't getting many assists, but you don't need to win every single category. I play in a 7 category league (Points, Rebounds, Assists, Steals, Blocks, FG%, and FT%), so locking down blocks means I only need to win 3 of 6 other categories to win the week.

Wemby and Chet can both score. They both shoot very HIGH FG percentages (Chet 56% and Wemby 51%). They both rack up a lot of rebounds (combine for over 20 a game). They both shoot high FT percentages (Chet close to 80% and Wemby around 82%). And they both pick up steals from time to time. You could try a similar strategy with another great shot blocker like Evan Mobley or Donavan Clingan, but they are poor free throw shooters, so the Wemby/Chet combo is FIRE!!

I'm excited for this! Hey, if you haven't drafted yet, keep this strategy in mind! If you get Wemby as your first pick, go after Chet in the 2nd round!!!

Discussion Best tools to use for your NBA fantasy team management

Hey guys, I’ve been an NBA fantasy league manager for about 11 years now (those who have played for over 10 years are considered vets haha) and over that time I have used some pretty solid free and some paid tools to help manage my team (think team schedules, playoff schedules, waiver wire , rest of season projections, player and team comparison, historical stats etc.) I remember the toughest years were during the bubble (managers had to open several IR slots due to cancelled games and delayed player injury status) and a season were I managed over 5 leagues. These are some tools that have helped significantly along the way

  1. This subreddit, specifically player discussions and Daily recaps.
  2. Basketball Monster - A community of nba fantasy managers (paid version) + several tools to help with drafts and regular season team management ( their best tools include ESPN/Yahoo league import, draft/trade/matchup monsters, daily projections, schedule analyzer)
  3. Hashtag Basketball - Well renowned platform for NBA news, Fantasy strategy and league management tools ( fantasy rankings/projections, advanced schedule grid and playoff schedule, trade analyzer etc.)
  4. ClutchNBA.com/Clutchbasket - More modern UX/basketball intelligence platform for player prop predictions (WNBA and NBA) based on historical data and trained projection models. Several free and paid tools (player and team comparisons, fantasy projections and draft simulator, DFS lineup optimizer, all star/awards projections, team correlations etc)
  5. Locked on Fantasy Podcast (Josh Lloyd) - Watched his videos since he started the channel. The podcast is now available on Spotify for your morning drives/commutes to school and work. Best daily listen before games start.
  6. Databallr - player vs player stat analysis, matchup metrics, advanced player metrics for more numbers savvy fantasy basketball managers. Their “Learning” tab is solid for understanding basketball metrics for coaches, analysts and managers.

These are a few consistent/improving tools I’ve used over the years. Do you have any more recommendations (tools, podcasts, communities)?

What NBA seasons were the most difficult for you as league or team manager and why?

Points League ESPN Continuous FAB Settings

Question, our league is run through ESPN and we use Continuous FAB setting. Only problem is we want to also have the ability to pickup players same day after waivers go through without putting in a bid for last minute player scratches. Will unchecking 5 of the 7 days, say leave Monday and Friday checked for waivers allow us to do this?

Player Discussion Giddey, Brunson and Markkanen scored within 0.3 points per game of each other last season. They finished 15th, 60th and 112th.

Ran last season's actual production through ESPN's default points scoring (PTS 1, REB 1, AST 2, STL 4, BLK 4, TOV -2, 3PM 1, FGM 2, FGA -1, FTM 1, FTA -1) and these three lines ended up stacked on top of each other:

  • Brunson — 42.2 per game, 74 games, 15th overall

  • Giddey — 41.9 per game, 54 games, 60th overall

  • Markkanen — 42.0 per game, 42 games, 112th overall

Three tenths of a point separate them per game. Ninety-seven places separate them in the final standings.

Everyone knows availability matters. I don't think most of us price it correctly on draft day. A guy at 42 per game who plays 74 is a second-round asset. The same rate over 54 games is someone you're benching half the week and quietly resenting by February.

Giddey is the interesting one of the three. Youngest of them, and the missed time doesn't have the same obvious explanation the other two carry.

Two things the numbers can't tell me:

  1. Was his missed time one long stretch or scattered through the season? That changes how much I'd discount it.

  2. Does anything about Chicago this year make 70+ games more or less likely?

Where are people taking him, and are you applying a games-played discount or just going off the per-game rate?

Player Discussion Another interesting combo: Chasing BLKs without punting FTs?

My late night nerdy fantasy analysis time - This time, im trying to see which guys to target for BLKs without dragging your FTs. I think this one is naturally easier than the Assist + TO combo I looked into last time.

For 26-27 season projections, here are some notable blk sources:

Blocks with little or no FT cost

Player BLK FT% FTA FT impact
Wemby (🔥 ) 3.3 82.5% 7.2 +0.19
Chet 2.0 79.0% 4.0 −0.03
Buzelis 1.6 80.2% 3.0 +0.01
JJJ 1.5 79.7% 5.0 −0.01
Derrick White 1.1 88.0% 2.3 +0.19
Flagg 1.0 84.2% 5.3 +0.23

The middle ground

Player BLK FT% FTA FT impact
Turner 1.5 76.2% 2.4 −0.09
Edey 2.0 75.7% 2.9 −0.12
Maluach (🚀 ) 1.8 73.2% 2.2 −0.14
Sarr 2.0 71.1% 3.1 −0.27
Clingan 1.7 68.0% 2.7 −0.32
Gafford 1.5 68.0% 2.8 −0.34

Bigger FT trade-offs

Player BLK FT% FTA FT impact
Kessler 2.5 59.2% 3.6 −0.74
Gobert 1.6 60.4% 4.0 −0.78
Claxton 1.4 59.6% 2.8 −0.56
Mobley 1.7 67.6% 4.5 −0.55
Şengun 1.0 69.2% 5.4 −0.58
Giannis (😢 ) 1.0 64.0% 10.4 −1.64

How did I calculate FT impact? Projected makes above or below a 79.9% shooter taking the same attempts. That baseline is the attempt-weighted FT% of this top-180 pool. Negative means FT drag, not the percentage-point drop in your team’s FT%.

For a lot of these guys listed in the middle ground and even a few in the drags in the 3rd table, I think a high FTA guard may be able to compensate the drag, at least to bring you to a level where you dont have to punt FT.

Giannis (very obvious one), Sengun and even Mobley could be pretty hard to recover.

Discussion keeper league: keep late round high value players or early round top talent guys?

i'm in a 10 team 9cat league, can keep 3 players at their draft round. would you prefer keeping guys who give you big value (late round player who's ADP is 3+ round ahead of where you'd keep him) or early round guys who provide less value but are higher tier players?

i can keep:

luka doncic - round 1

scottie barnes - round 2

cooper flagg - round 3

austin reaves - round 4

jalen brunson - round 5

jalen duren - round 9

kon knueppel - round 13

i'm def going to keep luka. i'm pick 6 so he'd be off the board by the time it's my turn to pick again. i could pair him with flagg who's adp is round 1-2 so only about a 1 round saving. or i can keep a guy like kon who's adp is roughly 6-7 rounds ahead of where'd keep him. duren is also great value.

Player Discussion The post-Achilles boys

I know it’s preseason… I know, BUT…

Tatum in two games: 23/5/4 on 9/19 shooting & 19/8/6 on 8/17 shooting

Hali’s 2/3 games: 17/3/6 on 7/14 shooting & 24/3/3 on 9/14 shooting

Dame tonight (still going): 23 pts (4/10 fg, 2/5 3fgs)

All three have looked impressive so far in preseason - I think Hali has impressed me the most so far - how we feeling about em? Usually nba players’ careers fall off drastically after an Achilles tear (minus Durant in recent times)
