Local Information request Cricket nets

Hi. Are there any publicity available cricket nets in Exeter? I know Alphington has a couple, but they are roped off, and i'm not sure the groundskeeper was always happy with them being used. Many thanks

Local Information request Exeter picks

I’m staying in the city centre for 5 nights, with tickets for the rugby on the Saturday. I would like recommendations for food, markets, food stalls, pubs (craft beer), and coastal walks. I’m keen to walk down the river Exe but would like other suggestions.

Also with food, any recommendations for American, Lebanese, Turkish, or east Asias restaurants would be great, I prefer independent or small businesses.

Also a place to watch the world go by, with a coffee, book or pint. Thanks in advance!

Local Information request Pilates classes for men

I really enjoy pilates. In general I couldn't care less who else is in a group but pilates classes tend to be almost uniquely female. I go and I enjoy it, but it would be nice to find a group that has at least a smattering of guys in it.

Quality is more important. There's an excellent instructor who I'll probably sign up with again next year but if there's a group that has some men I'd take a look.

And, with pilates being so good for flexibility, balance and building some strength why are men in general so reluctant?

Uni Erasmus as a blind person in Exeter

Hi! I will probably do an Erasmus exchange next year, and I am looking for testimonies about going on Erasmus as a blind person in exeter.
Here are my questions, of course you can skip some of them if you can't answer! And if you prefer to answer by DM, feel free to message me, you can also send voice messages if that's easier.
How did you navigate around the city? I personally have a guide dog, so I think he will be able to guide me, but I still need somebody to show me some things. Did you ask a specialised association to help you? The university will probably ask somebody to help me with the basics, but is that enough?
Could you get help with other daily life tasks, such as paperwork or even computer problems? I often have problems with my braille device, and not everybody knows how to fix it, so I want to be sure I will be able to get help if I have problems.
How did you handle everyday tasks such as shopping? Where I live (in France), it really doesn't bother me to go into a shop and ask the seller to help me, but I don't know if that's just a French thing or if it would be okay to do it in another country too.
I know that there is a special scholarship for disabled people, but when I asked my teacher, they didn't know exactly how much it was. I suppose it has changed since your trip, but do you remember how much it was, just so I have an idea? I am trying to find other sources, but none of them agree.
In terms of housing, did you have specific accommodations in your apartment? In France, I know that some blind students can ask for an accessible apartment with more space. It's not my case because I didn't have my dog when I started uni, but I might consider this option if I don't want him to live in a tiny room. Do you also remember the price of the flat? Was it on campus or somewhere else?
Could the university provide the same accommodations for your exams? I think I won't have problems with common things like extra time, but I often need an isolated room with a secretary to help me in case my computer has a problem, and I don't know if every university offers that.
How long before your departure did you start contacting your university?
Was there anything you wish you had asked before leaving?
Thanks for your help.

Local Information request Got any tips for finding lost property in Exeter?

Hi,
A few months ago, I lost a pair of tinted glasses. They’re not sunglasses, but they go tinted when in bright light. I think they’re dark green in colour, or at least green anyway. They’re Morell ones, but I doubt that they actually have the brand written on the actual glasses themselves.
I don’t work and I’m not in education, so I wouldn’t have left them anywhere like that. I’ve called a taxi company (how am I supposed to know what date and time I left them in the taxi when it was months ago and I don’t even know that they were left in a taxi?). I’ve also been and checked in the Vue cinema a couple of times, and I’ve also checked the Odeon…
I will also be looking into reporting them as missing on Stagecoach and also to Frankie’s Taxis.
I’ve now got some lost property apps on my phone. Does anyone else have any tips?
Thanks.

Local News Quick update on my work relating to water pollution

I was really pleased to join local resident Robin and Mike from Avaaz to carry out some citizen science testing on the River Exe, measuring nitrate and phosphate levels which are key indicators of water pollution.

The Exe wasn’t too bad on the day we tested, but we know our rivers, estuary and coastline remain under real pressure from sewage spills, agricultural run-off and other forms of pollution, particularly after periods of heavy rainfall.

There's still a long way to go, but I know people across Exeter want to see cleaner rivers, cleaner beaches and a healthier environment for future generations. It's something I'll continue to push for, both locally and nationally.

I'd be interested to hear from local residents about their experiences of the Exe and what improvements you'd like to see. 🌿💧

Music Any good rock shows tonight?

I’m sad because I am missing my favorite artist performing in my home town tonight. Are there any rock shows tonight that kind of have that hyper literate lyric, stripped back, telecaster slinging, leather jacket wearing Jersey attitude?

Local Information request Share your experiences - Royal Mail survey

Thumbnail survey.labour.org.uk
7 Upvotes

Lots of people in Exeter have contacted me about problems with Royal Mail in Exeter, and it's an issue I've experienced myself, with important letters from and to residents sometimes taking weeks to arrive.

Our local posties work really hard, but it's clear that Royal Mail's service model is not meeting the standard Exeter residents deserve.

That's why I'm launching a survey to better understand the scale of the problem locally. The more evidence we can gather, the stronger the case I can continue to make directly to Royal Mail's bosses for action.

If you've experienced delays to your post, please take a few minutes to complete my survey: bit.ly/4dg48aL

Make sure you sign up to my newsletter for updates on my work: https://dashboard.mailerlite.com/forms/1220147/151936202037004118/share

UPDATE: yes it is the cathedral crane, guess the fog made it seem more noticeable than usual
