I would say I’m surprised, but that’s not true. This is simply disgusting, and exactly what I expect of their school. Various band members came out with their experiences, and in return “NT Barstool” (student run sports account that leads the student section) have attacked and disparaged them. I expect NT to hold their students accountable.
The first 4 are the stories from the personal account of band students who’ve I’ve redacted for anonymity. The last 3 are stories from the “NT Barstool”, who is a big organizer in the student section. Also included them calling Evanston “the hood” before the game. 20% of ETHS students are Black. NT’s black students make up <1% of their student population.
Edited for spelling & grammar

26,000! Yes it was a big rivalry game but I think NU was shocked at how many people want to see non-NU events at the stadium too!

Today the UPN lime was delayed by hours. The announcement on the platform said it was due to "police activity," but I couldn't find any information about it. What happened?? I'm just nosy.

We received a stern letter that purports to be coming from the Evanston water department notifying that we have failed to respond to two prior notices (which I don’t think we ever received) and then notifying us that our water would be cut off at the end of this month, with a bunch of fees that would be owed, unless we immediately scheduled installation of a new water meter system equipment. The letter (by hard mail) looks legit though I am sure we received no prior correspondence on this. Anyone else seeing this? We are in NW Evanston if relevant.

A group of D65 parents and other concerned community members are asking people to take this survey to collect information about changing school boundaries. We will use these survey results to advocate for the least disruptive changes.
Survey: https://us.list-manage.com/ZMLid1vLYig?e=7c798c421b&c2id=6cf98ab736b0ef8766f7f06971ea5429

We are two Northwestern students volunteering our time to help families in Illinois. Medicaid, Medicare, and Illinois programs can be hard to sort out, and we can help you find out what your loved one may qualify for.
This may be you if:
Both of us have had a loved one go through this, and we want to make it easier for other families.
To get started, email us at [remicareteam@gmail.com](mailto:remicareteam@gmail.com) and tell us a little about your situation. We will be in touch.
Flyer attached. Feel free to share it with a neighbor who might need it.

Hi neighbors!
I'm the owner of Bloom & Threshold, one of the small businesses participating in the new Space to Place marketplace in Bookman's Alley.
This Saturday (October 17), I'm teaming up with Julia of Papillon Planters, another Evanston small business, to host Little Pumpkins at the Threshold; a hands-on fall workshop where we'll create pumpkin centerpieces using succulents and other natural elements. These centerpieces can last through the new year with a regular quick mist and could be a great Thanksgiving host gift!
We will also have a pumpkin patch in our courtyard, so if you feel inspired after our workshop, you can purchase more high-quality pumpkins to bring home and apply what you learned at home.
It's from 3–5pm, costs $25 per person, and all materials are included. No experience necessary.
Glue guns will be used so we recommend bringing older kids but young'uns are welcome with adult supervision!.
We're excited to bring people together for a creative afternoon and introduce more neighbors to the new marketplace.
Tickets are available through bloomandthreshold.com and the link above.

Who will be Evanston’s next mayor? What will they do for safer streets, better transit, and a greener Evanston?
ASL interpretation will be provided.

Attendance at the Ball State game was only 25k and it was too loud? They spent $850 million on a stadium to help give Northwestern a true home field advantage and people are already claiming it's too loud? What is this world coming to? Do we want fans to golf clap at football games now? Every other college program in the country must be laughing at this.

Is the dude's campaign slogan, "I'll be the AI Mayor"?
Nice touch having the homepage festooned with a bunch of his own quotes.

I posted about this a couple of years ago and I thought that the reception would get better when the new stadium was built. Unfortunately, coverage in the area near the stadium is terrible and it only gets worse when games are played.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a wireless provider that actually has good service in Evanston? I’m really tempted to switch to mint based on how cheap it is, but not sure if the coverage would be just as bad. Thanks!
EDIT: thanks for the helpful responses!

People are still digesting the school closure plan.
But we shouldn't sleep on the Forensic Audit.
I haven't read the whole thing, but a clear takeaway is that Sergio and Mya should resign immediately. The Board was basically AWOL the whole time and not following basic oversight procedures.
The excuse that they didn't know what was going on doesn't fly. All of the stuff related to the contracts, board approval of payments after they went out, the credit card misuse, etc... was documented nearly contemporaneously by Tom Hayden on foiagras.
Also, should Lou Gatta be fired? He gave Horton a number for transportation savings that were supposed to cover the lease certificates that were lower than the numbers Horton gave to the board. Yes, Horton was Gatta's boss, but where the hell was he when Sergio and Devon the Strangler were talking $3.2 million in savings?
I hope Tom does a deep dive on the report. He basically did the same work uncompensated using FOIAs.

It isn't clear from the slides, but if you are a fifth grader this year at Lincolnwood or Washington and live in an area where the closure scenario would have you going to Walker or Dawes, are those kids going to have to go to Chute?
You have kids where all of their friends from the last six years will be going to Haven or Nichols, but the new attendance areas put them into the Chute feeder schools.
Curious what they said (if anything) about the transition period.

Simply does not make sense to keep a magnet program open while closing neighborhood schools. Highest cost per student in the district and absolutely zero evidence that the programming there is narrowing the achievement gap. The administration implicitly admitted this in the presentation last night, by claiming that keeping it open is not a commitment to the status quo, which is terrible, but hey, maybe we’ll figure something out in the future.
The original idea for King Lab was that it would be an opportunity for black and white students to integrate, and to provide resources to students living in the historically black 5th Ward after the closure of Foster. Over time, it also served as a pressure release valve for other overcrowded schools in the district during periods of high enrollment. Neither of those conditions obtain any longer.
Other than the fact that district administrators find it convenient to send their kids there, what is even the argument at this point?

Hi there,
We have a sink embedded into a Corian countertop. There is a crack in the sink and we need it replaced or filled. I would love a recommendation of someone to call.
Thanks,
Jason

Just wanted to give a heads up about what seems to be a phishing scam around wheel tax renewal.
I got a very convincing looking email that purported to be from the City of Evanston, with a receipt for wheel tax renewal. I had not initiated this and didn't have it set for auto-renewal. Everything on the email looked right including a name of somebody at Levy Center collections dept., except there was a weird credit card number that is not mine.
I called 311, they confirmed there was nothing for me in the system (in fact my wheel tax had lapsed and had no payment method attached), and then just kinda shrugged and told me to mark it as phishing.
I'm not sure what the scam would be here, but it had links (http not https) to a site called amilia.com that does indeed do municipal collections, but doesn't seem to be used by the city of Evanston. I guess it would then get you to log in and try to harvest personal/CC info. So maybe if there's a hack it's at that site and it's just combining with public records info from here?
Anyway, just a warning, and wondering if anybody else has gotten these because it was pretty well done.
UPDATE 10/15: I talked to folks at the City and after a lot of puzzlement, it seems like this was indeed not phishing, but my email somehow getting mistakenly associated to another person's account at the Levy Center.

UPDATE 2: I got 3 more tickets to sell if anyone needs any.
------
Update 1: These have been claimed. Go Kits!
-------
My sister and I had a bit of a miscommunication and we both ended up getting tickets for the game. I thought I was buying for everyone in our family plus a few friends, while she thought she was supposed to.
As such, we have 8 extra tickets I'll happily part with for their face value + tax: $16.80 a ticket.
DM me here and I'll figure out how to get them to you. You'll need the New Ryan Field app on your phone (unfortunately yet another app...)
