Enough with the national politics related posts

There has been a HUGE influx of national politics related posts. Many of them from new accounts, or ones that have never been to this sub. Basically astroturf. For the foreseeable future, these will not be allowed here. It doesn't matter if there is some local connection to it, no posts about national politics or related activism. There are tons of subs for that.

HOWEVER, local politics posts are totally fine and actually strongly encouraged. Post about your local city council members if you know who they are. Post about new local laws or restrictions. Whatever, but LOCAL posts only.

Reddit has made some very questionable algo changes recently that seem to be heavily trying to stir up things and it's tough keep things chill here. Insta ban for any of these posts

Can anyone tell me why they put these trees in the Sunset Creek restoration? Slow down the water?

30 day rainfall average

• Upvotes

Don’t get me wrong, i don’t mind the mild days we’ve been having so far this fall, but has anyone else noticed we’re behind the 30 day average rainfall by a few inches?

-2-3” between a few eastside cities when i checked this morning.

Besides gardening and landscaping issues, at our lower elevation is there anything else to prepare for or are things mostly ok as long as the mountains get sufficient rain?

Edit: aware it’s a super El Niño year, but thought that mean warmer temps (less snow), not necessarily less rain.

Thanks!

Does the Eastside need more late-night coffee spots?

Not talking about bars, just somewhere to grab coffee or dessert and hang out after 10. There are a few places around, but it seems like the options get pretty limited.

Northbound I-405 in Bellevue closes TONIGHT (Oct. 16–19). Let's talk about your weekend route.

Post image
38 Upvotes

Big weekend plans for northbound I-405 in Bellevue. We're talking fresh pavement, concrete panels and a new overhead sign structure.

HERE'S WHAT TO EXPECT:

Starting at 11 p.m. TONIGHT (Friday, Oct. 16), all lanes of northbound I-405 will close between SE 8th St. and NE 4th Street until 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19.

The following ramps will also close:

  • SE 8th St. on-ramp to northbound I-405
  • Northbound I-405 off-ramp to NE 4th St./NE 8th St. (Exit 13 A/B)

WHY, YOU ASK?

Crews will be paving, installing concrete panels and setting an overhead sign structure as part of the I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project.

OKAY, BUT HOW DO I GET AROUND?

Signed detours will be in place throughout the closure (we've attached a map of the detour route ).

If you're traveling through Bellevue this weekend, check the real-time travel map, know your route before heading out and (we can't stress this enough) give yourself some EXTRA TIME.

Looking for reviews/experiences with Proliance Eastside Surgery Center

Hi everyone! I’m scheduled to undergo a Bascom cleft lift surgery for a pilonidal cyst, which will be performed by Dr. Helen Kim at Proliance Eastside Surgery Center.

I wanted to ask if anyone here has had surgery at this center or has experience with Dr. Helen Kim as a surgeon. I’d really appreciate any feedback about the surgery center, the staff, the overall experience, and the quality of care provided by the doctor.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences! I’d really appreciate any insights that could help me feel more prepared for the procedure.

PSA: work zone speed cameras on 520 between I-5 & Montlake

Just want to give a heads up to fellow travelers.

Yesterday I found I was mailed a camera-ticket from September for speeding in a work zone (54 in a 40) and a fine of $125 with a warning that if I do it again it’ll cost $248!

It said it’s not considered a “moving violation” and won’t affect insurance. I don’t recall seeing any “speed camera” signs and technically this is a work zone (although most of the work is happening adjacent to this segment of roadway) so consider yourself warned.

Landscaper Referral

Hello,

Can anyone recommend a company that is reasonably priced and reliable for maintaining landscape? This includes weeding, pruning, and raking leaves. My elderly parents cannot maintain their large garden. One had a stroke and the other has difficulty walking.

I have gone through 7 small companies in the last 3 years. They come for the first time and require a very expensive “clean up fee.” Then after a few maintenance visits they disappear because their first visit was their biggest profit.

A referral would be GREATLY appreciated. Independent contractors or small businesses are more than welcome.

Thank you so much.

Any fun date ideas for a young couple on the Eastside on Halloween?

Halloween is just a little two weeks away on Saturday, October 31. Are there any places in public that do something fun to celebrate? I’m talking about young adults who don’t really know anyone in the area, and are too old for trick-or-treating. I was thinking of browsing local malls, but that’s something you can do on any day. Are there any Halloween-specific events going on?

Novelty Hill Road construction ... every morning

Can someone explain what's going on with Novelty Hill road for the past couple of weeks? It's been going down to a single lane after 9am every day and traffic backs up for miles as a result. I can't find anything online explaining what they are doing and why, (or more importantly what days they intend to do it, and when it will stop).

French Immersion Schools

We live on the east side and are looking at the area French immersion schools—FASPS, FISW, and Les Lilas—for our preschooler. We’ve already started visiting schools. I’m curious to hear from area parents who visited these schools and have some experience with them which one you chose over the others and why. I’d also love to hear your impressions good and bad on any of the schools you or someone you know has experience with. It’s a lot to process and they are all quite different, so any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone. I'm looking for new lease on the east side preferably closer to Redmond. I thought Onyx apartments looked great for 2B2B overall in terms of size and rent. Are there any bad reviews or experiences that I need to consider?

Free extra ticket to Sounders vs. CF Montréal on Oct 17 — anyone want to join?

Hey! I’ve got an extra ticket to the Sounders vs. CF Montréal game at Lumen Field on Oct. 17 at 7:30 PM.

I’m going solo, and I’d rather have someone use the extra seat than let it go to waste. Totally free — just come enjoy the game.

I’m still fairly new to the Seattle area, I'm Chinese , so I’m happy to meet new people too.

We can just meet at Lumen Field and go in together. DM me if you’re interested. First come, first served!

Things to do in Woodinville for birthday

It's my husband's birthday (early 30s) this month and I'm thinking of booking a hotel stay in Woodinville, along with some chill activities. Would love to hear your recommendations for hotels and activities to do! Would want it to be budget friendly and not too expensive. Activities, something chill like a vineyard maybe. Thanks!

Some pumpkins say BOO. Ours says BUSY. Here's a spooky little heads-up for Oct. 16–19.

Post image
29 Upvotes

Forget ghosts, goblins and things that go bump in the night. We've got four letters that'll send a shiver down any driver's spine: B-U-S-Y.That's right, another weekend of closures is creeping up on us.

Inspired by true (upcoming) events. Rated B for BUSY. Coming to a freeway near you Oct. 16–18:

NB I-405 CLOSED in Bellevue

- Closed between SE 8th St to NE 4th St. from 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16 to 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19. The following ramps will also close at this time: SE 8th St. on-ramp to NB I-405 and NB I-405 off-ramp to NE 4th St/NE 8th St. (Exit 13 A/B). Crews will pave, install concrete panels and set an overhead sign structure.

NB I-5 CONTINUED LANE CLOSURES across Ship Canal Bridge in Seattle

- Reduced to two lanes across the Ship Canal Bridge until the end of 2026. The express lanes will remain open NB-only 24/7.

EB I-90 LANE REDUCTIONS in Snoqualmie

- Two right lanes of EB I-90 closed from east of SR 18/Snoqualmie Parkways to SE N Bend Way, 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18. Maintenance crews will use this closure make bridge deck repairs.

You know that friend who looks over at you right before the jump scare in a horror movie? Yeah, that's us. Except instead of ruining the movie, we're giving you a heads-up about weekend closures. Check the travel maps, know your route before you go and give yourself extra time to get to that pumpkin patch.

Home Owner's Insurance Quotes

My latest State Farm bill has gone up 20% from last year. Has anyone recently gone thru the ordeal of getting home owners insurance quotes? If so, what have you found?

Also, do you have earthquake insurance?

UPDATE: for anyone that must have earthquake insurance DO NOT waste your time getting a quote from Progressive. Progressive (or any of their affiliates) cannot provide earthquake coverage for homes in WA state as part of a primary policy or even as a separate policy. Their policy without earthquake coverage was about 25% cheaper than the equivalent State Farm policy.
