My new "travel" setup: Onexgpu 2 + Onexplayer X1 Pro HX370

Since I have been traveling a lot lately, constantly changing house, I considered selling my Onexplayer X1 Pro to buy a new more powerful laptop for better gaming at higher resolutions and better graphics on external displays, but apparently I've found a better solution that I wasn't even considering. An external eGPU!

But why the Onexgpu 2 with the AMD Radeon 7800m?

- First of all, I have a dual boot with Windows 11 and BazziteOS, and apparently on Linux to be sure to have better compatibility, it's better to buy an AMD GPU rather than a Nvidia one. Also, it is easier to control since I just need a single app to update the drivers of both processor and graphic card since both are AMD.

- I had to consider that since I travel a lot, I needed an eGPU that it's easier to transport in a backpack, and this excludes all the desktop eGPU configurations (like the Aoostar AG02 or AG03), making possible only mobile GPUs.

- My Onexplayer X1 Pro with the Ryzen 9 HX370 is one of the few handhelds with still an Oculink port, so it was mandatory to buy an eGPU with Oculink support, for better stability and performance.

- The price... It doesn't make sense to spend thousands of euros or dollars on an external eGPU, because at that point I could have directly bought a better laptop with the latest RTX 50 series GPU instead of considering an eGPU.

So, how much did I pay?

I just got lucky, searching around online on the second hand market, I found this Onexgpu 2 for sale at €550, I proposed €500 and the guy accepted, making this the cheapest and best option at the moment probably. At this price I don't think there are better deals, especially considering that this is the latest and most powerful portable AMD eGPU, and I couldn't find a used Aorus RTX5060Ti Ai box, and that brand new costs about 1000€ here in Europe (literally double the price).

And the performance? Are they better?

YES! Of course I was expecting a big jump, but playing Cyberpunk at 3440x1440p with high settings and the ray tracing active on everything, at an average of about 60fps, wasn't on my bingo card!

Just for comparison, the same settings with the integrated GPU on my handheld (the Radeon 890m) give an average of 12fps, and even dropping the resolution to 2560x1080p it still cannot play at 30fps stable.

We are talking about a 500% increase in performance with Oculink and 400% with USB-C Thunderbolt 4!

P.S. just for info, the monitor is a Gawfolk GF340C, bought it on Amazon for €109 "used like new" and the controller is a Flydigi Apex 5, bought with the bundle (carrying case, charging dock, extra sticks and dpads) for about €86 on eBay.

Hey

Im trying my egpu 5070ti with oculink with my new nuc and it's work very well

No need to get the fix error 43 and all you need is to activate option in bios and install NVIDIA graphic drivers

So here the result with oculink

What do you think ?

USB4 eGPU peer transfers work external→internal, but not internal→external — ASM2464 or Intel routing?

Has anyone tested direct GPU-to-GPU transfers between an internal GPU and an ASM2464-based USB4 eGPU?

My setup is a Minisforum MS-01, i9-12900H, internal RTX 2000 Ada 16 GB and external RTX A2000 12 GB in an AOOSTAR 800 W USB4 dock.

With experimental NVIDIA driver modifications, the external A2000 can PUSH data into the internal Ada, but the reverse fails. Peer reads fail in both directions.

We tried mapping/ordering changes and BIOS/FSP changes with verified register readback, without resolving it.

Does anyone know whether ASM2464 firmware or Intel PEG↔TCSS routing restricts peer-origin traffic? A comparable setup, firmware reference or transaction-level diagnostic would help.

Logs and experiments:

This is honestly the first time I’m 100% satisfied with my setup, especially when it comes to cable management. In my opinion, the laptop + eGPU combo looks so much sleeker and cleaner than a bulky desktop tower.

I'm running an XMG EVO 14 (E25) with an AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 and 32GB DDR5 (5200 MT/s) paired with the Aoostar AG02 and an RTX 5070.

I think it turned out pretty clean and I can highly recommend this route! Let me know what you think. :)

Ditched my desktop and made a switch like pc setup

I always loved the idea off a handheld but obviously the limiting factor that you can't play them at a good experienced docked. Didn't really know much about Egpu but started looking into it and realised the possibility. I love it! It's what I've always desired, a nice little easy compact setup that I can take on the go with me and utilise the smaller screen at lower settings and then dock it and play at high settings on my monitor.

Unfortunately I had to sell my 9060XT 16gb and replace it with a 5060 8gb due to no rebar support on the ally devices which results in a major drop in performance on top of the drop off in performance already in using thunderbolt so it was just too much of a drop off. Also 9060 drivers conflicted with the z2e driverss and would break adrenaline app. never daily drove a nivida card before but I must say I am enjoying the access to dlss and I'm not using more than 6gb vram in most cases with sensible settings of course.

GMKTec AI 9 HX 370, 5070ti on DEG2 dock, Oculink and Thunderbolt setup--Cannot get 1TB SSD in dock to show up again.

Hey y'all. Got a question, I have tried everything under the sun to get a 1TB SSD in my DEG2 dock to show up. I had it showing a few days ago. THEN did cable clean up, put everything back together, and....yeah. It shows up as being seen (I'm guessing the shadow copies and multiple storage volumes), but it does not show up as any space whatsoever in Disk management. The SSD is, I'm guessing, being displayed as a CD-ROM drive somehow in the one photo, I have no CD drive. I'm using the Oculink/Thunderbolt setup. I'm charging my headphones off the dock. Debug lights 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 are on. Games are working insanely. When I turn it on, light 9 will come on for a sec, then sglhut off. Seems like the port and switch are being read, just it and the card aren't being recognized or something. I'll be honest, I researched this like crazy. I have zero PC experience up until about 8 days ago. Got everything running in about 4 days with this new setup. But this one is burning me.

Maxing out my HP G1i with Oculink for a local AI Workstation setup! GPU recommendations?

Hi everyone, I’m new around here! I managed to find this HP G1i at an amazing price. It originally came with a stock configuration of a 512GB SSD and 16GB of RAM running at 5600 MT/s.

Since it was ridiculously cheap, I wanted to max it out. It currently packs an Intel Ultra 5 265T, and I’ve upgraded it with a 2TB Predator GM7 PCIe 4.0 SSD and bumped the RAM up to 32GB (with plans to go up to 64GB soon).

Right now, I’m trying to figure out which graphics card to pair with it using an Oculink adapter and the Minisforum DEG1 dock. I want to turn this thing into an absolute monster and squeeze every bit of performance out of this mini PC.

The goal is to make it the local AI workstation for my setup—handling local document classification models, coding, and experimentation. I’m looking for a GPU with at least 24GB of VRAM, and I’m tentatively considering the Intel Arc B70.

Ditched my desktop for a Legion Go 2 + RTX 5070 eGPU setup

So I've pretty much ditched my desktop for this little setup 😂

Was previously running an i5-10600K, 16GB DDR4 and an RTX 5070, but the stuttering in newer games was doing my fucking head in.

Was looking at spending nearly £1,000 upgrading the CPU, motherboard and RAM, then thought fuck it, I've already got a Legion Go 2 with a Z2 Extreme and 32GB RAM, why not just chuck the 5070 on an eGPU dock? 😂

Running it through a MINISFORUM DEG2 over USB4 40Gbps, hooked up to my 4K 120Hz LG OLED.

And honestly, I'm fucking amazed at how well it performs!

Getting around 55 FPS natively with DLSS upscaling in newer AAA games, and with Multi Frame Generation it's ridiculously smooth. Even been messing around with injected DLSS 5 Neural Rendering and it handles that beautifully too.

I know I'm losing some performance through USB4, but compared to my old desktop the stuttering is practically nonexistent. I'm guessing the newer CPU and extra RAM are doing me some favours 😂

Best part is I've got my entire desk back, no massive tower, and I can just unplug the Legion and take it wherever I want.

Honestly don't think I'll bother building another desktop at this rate 😂

Anyone else running something similar?

How to transport my eGPU setup safely?

Hello, I have an Aoostar ag02 with an rx 9060 XT 16GB powercolor gpu, where the gpu is smaller than my aoostar dock. Is there a way to transport this safely that doesn't involve separating it to transport it in the original boxes and then mount it again? How do you guys transport your eGPU setup?

New gpu incoming

I bought this gpu to use with my dell latitude for playing games on the go. I also have the rtx pro 4000 in my main pc. However I wanted a cheap gpu to have to connect over thunderbolt 4 for games with my laptop on the go and this was the cheapest 8gb option. Also because I've owned almost every 4000 professional gpu since there rtx branding. I've owned the 4000 ada, the pro 4000, and now the quadro rtx 4000. My 4000 ada and pro 4000 play gamed very well, so I have no doubt this will do the same.

Confused about my options, has anyone tried this?

Hi, I have a Thinkpad P15 Gen2, and I really wanted to build a desktop but since I will most definitely be moving out for college next year, that isn't viable; since the desktop will cost much more and I can't take it with me. My laptop already works fine, but for gaming, there is a bottleneck with my GPU, and so I was thinking of doing an eGPU setup; probably with the RTX 4060 8GB.

here's the specs:

Intel Core i9 11950H

32GB DDR4 RAM

1 + 2 TB NVMe SSD (I added the 2TB)

NVIDIA RTX A2000

Now, for my options to connect the eGPU to the laptop, I can either connect it through TB4 which is the easiest one but it also offers the least bandwidth and speed. As for the M.2 NVMe to Oculink options, my laptop has 3 spots: two PCIe 3x4 and one PCIe 4x4. Unfortunately, the only 4x4 port is under the keyboard, so it's gonna be hard to have a setup with an adapter there, unless I could figure out some way to do that. The 3x4 spots that are under the laptop are easy to open but they don't seem to offer substantially different speeds than just using the provided TB4 port.

So my main query is, is it worth it to somehow connect the eGPU to the PCIe 4x4 port under the keyboard, or should I just use the TB4? has anyone tried this or anything similar? Perhaps if someone is familiar with the P15 G2's design?

nvlddmkm Event 153 & Crashes During Shader Compilation: ROG Ally X + AOOSTAR AG02 + RTX 5070 Ti

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for advice to resolve GPU driver crashes during heavy loads/shader compilation with my USB4 eGPU setup. Benchmarks complete fine, but launching modern games causes immediate crashes.

Hardware Specs:

Host: ASUS ROG XBOX Ally X (AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme)

eGPU Enclosure: AOOSTAR AG02 (ASMedia ASM2464PDX controller via USB4)

GPU: ASUS Prime GeForce RTX 5070 Ti

Symptoms & Windows Event Log Errors:

Shader Compilation Crashes: Games crash to desktop or reboot the system specifically while building shaders at startup.

nvlddmkm Event 153: Event Viewer shows repeated nvlddmkm (Event ID 153) errors right before games close, indicating TDR (Timeout Detection and Recovery) GPU driver resets.

A

EventLog Event 6008 & TPM-WMI Errors: Unexpected shutdowns/reboots logged following the driver crashes.

Troubleshooting Completed:

Clean reinstallation of both AMD iGPU and Nvidia eGPU drivers in Safe Mode using DDU.

Evaluated high-bandwidth USB4 cables to rule out physical interface disconnection.

Questions:

Has anyone encountered persistent nvlddmkm Event 153 crashes on the ASM2464PDX controller during UE5 shader building, and did a specific Nvidia driver, TDR delay registry tweak, or controller firmware update fix it?

Are there recommended PCIe link state settings, Resizable BAR toggles, or Nvidia Control Panel configurations to prevent USB4 link timeouts under initial shader load?

Any tips or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Witcher 3 Remastered Stuttering

Hi, all:

My setup is a Lenovo Legion Go + OneXGPU original (7600M XT) + 2.5k 180 hz travel monitor. I'm up-to-date on the latest AMD drivers and have gaming/display settings right where I want them. When I try to play Witcher 3 with the turbo mode (130 watts) enabled, my FPS fluctuates WILDLY. Some scenes they're 4 fps and some scenes/movement they're almost 240. Any idea why this might be happening? I think I am going to cap the fps at 120, but I don't know why the floor is so low. Just out of curiosity, I ran the same game with the same display and graphic settings on my laptop (mobile 5060 100 watt), and it was blazing through it even when I raised the settings and resolution. I know the 5060 is supposed to be about 15% stronger than the 7600M XT, but I can't believe it when my OneX is only getting single-digit FPS. Any ideas?

Which GPU should i buy?

So I want a eGPU, but i dont know which of these two choices i should buy for mostly source games (CS2 + TF2): RTX 3060 12gb VRAM, RX 6700 XT 12gb VRAM

Edit: I should mention, price is not a worry between the two gpus and i dont think power is either. I am on the edge of deciding AMD for performance, or Nvidia for more compatibility and more settings. (I dont plan on using their AI features like DLSS)

It would be nice for as much people to respond as possible, even if you just copy the comment you agree with

Question for XG Mobile 5070ti users

I’ve been using my XG Mobile for about three months and really like it, but I’ve noticed a few quirks when pairing it with a 2025 Z13 64GB, a Surface Pro 11 Lunar Lake, and a 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo. First, if I’m connected to the Z13, shut down, and then unplug the XG Mobile, I get a check disk error on the next boot. However, if I disconnect the XG Mobile before shutting down, it boots fine. The downside is that when I reconnect it, I have to go into Device Manager and re-enable the 5070ti for it to work. Is there a better way to remove the XG Mobile without these issues?

My other question is why I get lower Timespy scores on performance/standard settings with laptops other than the Z13. With the Z13, I’m hitting close to 15K on graphics, but on the Surface Pro 11 or Asus Zenbook Duo (Panther Lake) it’s around 11K. Why is there a difference? This happens every time I test these laptops with the same XG Mobile, and I’ve never gotten a definitive answer on why the performance varies.

Any options for swapping AMD GPU drivers for Windows?

I'm using a Lenovo Thinkbook (14 G2 ARE) with an adapter from M.2 to PCIe to connect a RX 5700 XT. It's working as intended but only when I have the drivers for eGPU installed. I need really need AMD software settings to be configurable for both eGPU and integrated graphics (AMD Vega 6) for work purposes but when I have install eGPU drivers installed and disconnect it AMD software window blurps out an error message about drivers being incorrect instead of opening properly (even though iGPU driver is also installed and works as intended otherwise). The only way to fix it seems to be uninstall eGPU drivers and reinstall them back when I connect it.

Are there any Windows drivers swapper for this kind of stuff? Or maybe a different solution altogether?

[Help] eGPU setup on a Lenovo ThinkCentre M920x Tiny via SlimSAS

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm troubleshooting an eGPU setup on a Lenovo ThinkCentre M920x Tiny and hit a brick wall regarding PCIe detection. I'd appreciate any insights or advice from the community.

Here is the exact hardware chain:

  • Host: Lenovo ThinkCentre M920x / M720q Tiny
  • Riser: OEM Lenovo PCIe x8 Riser (01AJ940)
  • Host Card: RBS16254B_V52 (PCIe x16 to Dual SlimSAS SFF-8654)
  • Cable: Dual SlimSAS SFF-8654 cable (labeled MB on host end, GPU on dock end)
  • Dock: RBS16254S-V53 (SlimSAS to PCIe x16 dock with ATX 24-pin connector)
  • Power Supply: Standard ATX PSU
  • GPU: Slot-powered GPU (no external 6-pin/8-pin PCIe power headers)

The Symptoms:

  1. Power delivery is partially active: When powering on, the status LED on the dock turns solid blue. The ATX PSU is running, and I confirmed 12V DC delivery using a multimeter at the 4-pin fan header on the dock.
  2. GPU core heats up quickly, but fans stay stationary: The GPU heatsink gets hot within 1–2 minutes, indicating the core is drawing power, but the cooling fan does not spin at all.
  3. No hardware handshake: In Linux (SteamOS / Arch) and Windows, lspci shows zero external display devices. The CPU PCIe root port 0000:00:01.0 remains completely unpopulated / inactive. A PCIe bus rescan (echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/rescan) detects nothing.

Verified Known-Good Components (Isolation Testing):

  • GPU & M920x PCIe Slot are 100% functional: When I remove the entire SlimSAS / dock setup and plug the GPU directly into the Lenovo OEM 01AJ940 riser, the machine boots instantly, the GPU fan spins normally, and lspci detects the card right away.
  • Cable swapping: Swapping between the two SlimSAS cable branches produces the exact same result. The blue LED on the dock only triggers when connected from Port ① (Host) to Port X8 (Dock).

Settings Attempted on the Dock (RBS16254S-V53):

  • SW1 toggle: Tested both ON (labeled for Lenovo laptops) and 1 (other laptops / mini PCs).
  • AUTO_SW & ON_SW: Tested combinations of AT (Auto trigger) and MT (Manual force trigger).
  • BIOS Tweaks: Set PCIe generation to Gen 2 / Gen 3, disabled Secure Boot, set Primary Display to IGD / PEG.

My Questions:

  1. Is there a known PERST# (Reset) or REFCLK pinout mismatch when bridging the Lenovo 01AJ940 proprietary riser through this specific RBS16254B host card and RBS16254S dock?
  2. Since the GPU gets hot without fan spin or detection, it looks like the GPU is stuck in a Reset state (PERST# held low). Has anyone successfully run this specific combo on a Lenovo Tiny? Does it require jumping any sideband pins (e.g., pulling up PERST# or bridging PRSNT#)?
  3. Could the passive Redriver/bridge circuitry on this kit simply be incompatible with how Lenovo routes sideband signals on the Tiny series?

Thanks in advance for any technical pointers or pinout references!
