What metronome app do you actually use for practice?
I've realized I probably need to start using a metronome more consistently but there are so many apps that I'm not sure which one is worth sticking with.
I don't need anything fancy, just something reliable and easy to use during practice. What app do you use and what BPM would you recommend starting at for someone just getting into regular metronome practice?

Should I use the supplied kit at a studio for an audition?
I have an audition this weekend with a stoner/doom project and wondering if i should use their kit or mine? Theirs is an Tama imperial star with 22 kick, 12/13 rack toms and 14/16 floor. Mine is 24 kick, 14 rack and 16/18 floors. Also, I play lefty. Curious what you all think? Pic is my current set up.

This is a Tongue Drum. Very basic and I listen to it after I did it and it sounds nice. Itโs not a loud thing. Hopefully you can enjoy it, I did.๐๐

how to tune bass drum, snare, toms for a beginner?
i have this school performance and i borrowed a kit that badly needs tuning. the bass drum sounds off and has a ringing sound whenever i play it. should the heads be stretched? how do i make the ringing sound stop? what is the ideal tone for toms? i know some basic snare tunings but i dont know the ratios for the reso and batter heads for medium high tuning.

This beat has SLAYER written all over it
Had to learn an OG song by a famous death metal band. When I was playing it, I couldnโt feel anything but Dave Lombardo / Slayer. Do you hear it too?
What are some of your favorite Slayer songs?

How should i learn drums?
Im new to drumming, bought a pad and some 5as, and i want to be able to play in friends cover band in about 4 months. Here are four of the songs they learned: distance by cake, neon by john Mayer, chain by fleet wood mac, in between days, the cure. They normally learn about 15 - 10 songs a semester i think. The songs seem kinda intermediate but not out of my reach, the current drummer who is also my best friend has been drumming for 15 years so he also just makes anything look easy. I feel like i can do it because although he is talented he is not a very technically sound drummer, he canโt do doubles as 32nd notes at 60 bpm, at least not cleanly with good finger technique, and he canโt do singles that fast either, but heโs a really good drummer, he was good enough to get gigs back in his home town, he says when he didnโt have a job thats how he would make money. He can read music, write the sheet music for a song after a few listens. And he can practice songs by listening to them without actually sitting at the drum kit. Dudes cracked and im not gonna be as good as him in 4 months but i want to audition for them after he graduates. So i guess my question is how should i be learning drums to give myself a good chance. Should i just be practicing my technique/ rudiments, should i be learning to read drum notation, should i just start learning their songs? For any experienced drummers, if you had to learn drums all over again, where would you start so that you could actually get good on the kit. Im not looking for a get good quick life hack so if the answer is I need more time thats okay, i thought that would be the case. Whats most important to me besides eventually playing in a band is just practicing stuff that actually helps me learn to play drums, i feel like most of the advice ive been getting is to focus on my fingers and building good habits so ive been doing that, and my technique has gotten a little better than my friends because of it, but when i sit at the drum kit i feel so uncoordinated.

Knees ABOVE the snare???
I'm older, and I'm from the old school where everything is pretty much above the knees. But lately, I've seen drummers on YouTube and Twitch with their knees ABOVE the snares. Most of them are playing e-kits so I don't know if there's a height limitation to those but, that seems awfully low to be hitting a drum below your knees. I've also seen drummers with acoustic kits around my age playing snares below their knees.
Is this the new norm these days or something?

Sound dampening options for a large-ish basement?
One of my bands practices in our bandmate's basement. It's a pretty nice basement with a good amount of space, but not huge. It's currently mostly untreated, though some of the rafters have insulation and there's some drapery along some walls.
For short term, cheap options, what would you recommend to dampen some sound? It's not my house, so I'm not asking about any permanent installation. But, I'm thinking that some curtains or drapery could help dampen the sound a bit, particularly by making the drums a bit quieter and less harsh.
Drapery on the walls wouldn't be too hard or take much convincing. But, I'd also like to maybe have a 3-4 foot tall curtain in front of the drums to dampen some of the volume and harshness. The thing is, I really don't know much about this stuff. What fabrics do you use for drapery? How do you hang it? What fabrics are heavy enough to make a difference but not so heavy that they're prone to falling?
Again, it's not my house so I'm not looking at permanent changes. He's going to do more permanent sound treatment in a couple years. But, for now, we'd like to just dampen the sound, preferably with some sort of separation between drums and the rest of the band while still sounding and feeling natural.
We don't do any real home recording, so that's not a major concern. We don't need it to be studio quality. But, it'd be nice to tame some harshness and help tame some volume buildup for the comfort of all. Bass buildup is not a major concern, surprisingly, as the bass player mostly plays through a small Rumble 100. Drums really are the major issue, predominantly snare and cymbals.
