She’s been through a lot! Still struggles with her skin condition, but she is the sweetest lady you’ll ever meet.

Training, Temperament, & Behavior How to address this behavior?

I have a Doberman (12F). We recently moved my mom in with us and she has a chihuahua (14F). Typical chihuahua behavior, thinks she’s the too dog, and gets a little snippy if anyone gets too close to my Mom. For the most part, my dog annoys her. The only thing she does, that I am sure is probably intentional, is walk right over top of the chihuahua. She gets scared or stepped on and snaps.

I think it’s my dog’s passive way of showing she’s actually in charge and that the little one is of no consequence. If I see instances where it might happen (one dog is going out while the other is coming in), I can tell my dog to stay and she will. But sometimes I don’t see it before it’s too late.

Any way to teach old dogs new tricks? Mine is trainable. My mom’s? Not so much. I just don’t want her to get stepped on and hurt, or lash out and have my dog react.

Our puppy!

He’s a purebred Dobermann, almost 10 weeks now and already 12kg of beauty, love and chaos 🥰

The pictures are from 6/7 weeks till yesterday.

He loves eating, destroying our garden and digging holes, being loud and talking back and our daily short training moment. He’s too smart and probably thinks I’m a fool 😂

Training, Temperament, & Behavior Good fit?

I’m interested in adopting a Doberman as my first dog. However, I’m somewhat disappointed I’ve been seeing online that they’re generally not recommended for first time dog owners.

I grew up around boxers and love them to death so they’re a close second but the idea of Doberman is just eating me alive. But, I’ve never truly experienced a Doberman…

I am a single male in my mid 20s, no kids, live in a house with a small yard, very active lifestyle. I’m also in the military so the idea of me being deployed in the future for 6+ months makes me hesitant to get any dog until I get out (I’d most likely drop the dog off at the parents house if that would happen). I live on base so I have the option to run home during lunch to see a dog for a couple minutes every day.

Should I stay away for the time being or take the leap? What should I expect if/when I take the leap? Appreciate any input!

Rescue & Rehome Any Dobermann-specific rescues around Pittsburgh?

I'll have a large house outside of Pittsburgh, enough space and land for quite a few doggies, and the time to raise and love and attend to them, in just about a month. I'd like to get a Dobermann, specifically rescue a Dobermann.

Does anyone here know of any rescue group that deals with Dobermanns that is within commuting distance of Pittsburgh?

Health Lymphoma

My baby has lymphoma. We just found out.

Hes only 5. I'll be lucky if I have 5 more months left with him. We have him on chemo, but lymphoma has no cure.

I've been an emotional wreck since they told me it could be lymphoma. Another heart break days later when the blood work confirmed it. And another heart breat yesterday with the oncologist. They let us know his chances of survival each month with chemo. Either way I dont have him for long.

I dont know who to talk to about this. The same empathy doesnt seem to be extend when it comes to losing a dog. Ive lost family members before, I have never felt this deeply hurt, distraught, and wounded by the upcoming passing of my dog.

I cry before I go to sleep and wake up, literally everyday since the first vet visit. Ive never cried this much in my life. Oddly enough, I have found a new joy picking up his poops. I dont have to do this, I get to do this for him.

I just hope I have the strength to do whats best for him when the time comes.

Isn't she beautiful? I knew essentially nothing about the breed before fostering her as a baby. She's now about 6.5 months old and- after much research on my end, me hiring a trainer (100% positive reinforcement) and ensuring I could give her the beautiful life she deserves - the rescue group allowed me to adopt her.

We are such lucky people to get to share our lives and homes with this breed. I adore my other dog, but Dobermans really are something special.

When did you fall in love with the breed?

Training, Temperament, & Behavior Looking for some advice on fitting a 3.25mm Herm Sprenger prong collar for my 80 pound doberman.

She seems to be in between sizes (when we add a link, it's loose and slips down her neck, when we remove the links it stays up but seems too tight). One of the trainers we used recommended that we keep it tighter. Obviously we don't want to cause any damage to her trachea or spine. I'm looking for additional opinions to ensure we're using it in the safest way possible.

Please be gentle. I know prong collars are a controversial topic. I myself was in the camp of never using one, until we got a leash reactive doberman. The decision became clear when she was startled by the sudden appearanceof a skateboarder and I ended up with a degloved knee and 22 stitches. We have to use it for the dog's safety as well as our own. Thanks all.

Puppy! Working Schedule with Dog

Hi All, so I’ve got an 8 month old Doberman that’s used to a pretty consistent schedule. But I’ve just moved to another state and I’ve got 2 job offers. One of the jobs the schedule is pretty consistent 8:30-5:30 but it doesn’t have as much earning potential as the other. The other job is 2 days open 2 days close. 9-6 or 11-9 with Saturdays rotating. I know I can get a dog sitter for closing shifts but I’m just wondering what you guys would do because I want to give her consistency but also money talks

Health Doberman with Lyme Disease

Hi all,

My rescue male doberman was found dumped in the woods. Because of this I did anticipate that he could have tick borne diseases, but he officially tested positive for Lyme yesterday. I’m trying not to panic and we have him on doxy. I haven’t noticed any symptoms in the month since I got him, so we’re hoping we caught it early. What should I be keeping an eye out for, and are there any good supplements to help head off any possible symptoms? I guess mostly what I’m looking for is info from folks who have been through this and can help me understand what to expect. If we caught it early enough will he be fine?

Puppy! Is Doberman Planet a good training resource?

I have a 3.5 month old Doberman and I’m just curious if the Doberman Planet YouTube videos are good training resources?

I’ve successfully taught him 4-5 basic commands from them, but if he sees that I don’t have a treat/kibble/toy in my hand, he just stares at me.

I talked to some other dog owners and they said he’s still young but that I need to 1.) hide my hand, and 2.) have a reward (other than praise) every OTHER time to “wean” him off that expectation.

Either way, is Doberman Planet a yay or nay?

Breeder Reviews Looking for advice on puppy adopting!!

I couldn’t find a flair for my question so pls don’t take it down without telling me the proper flair thanks

Hi everyone, I’m seeing prices range from 1.5-5.5 K with varying levels of qualifications from breeders …

Thinking about getting a pup for proposed 3k included full AKC if (the Big reason I’m angled at this offer is it’s not too bad of a drive compared to others). What to look for? What to not stress too much about? I used to have one growing up but finally in a good position to have a dobey now.

Before I dip my toes in, is it too much? What should I ask for?
TIA
