Just so happened to intersect with them as they got off their bus to go to the venue. I walking when I thought I saw Lou and then turned and J was right there. Ran over to apologize and ask for a photo, didn’t wanna take up his time. He was nice. Wasn’t able to see them this week due to the cost (broke UW student) and this rlly made my day.

I swear this is in my top 5 music moments - whatever you expect to see … you won’t guess 😂

Went to see Dinosaur Jr at the Castro Theatre with my girlfriend and im just zoning out in line and my girlfriend goes “Is that J Mascis?” And hes just walking down and i swear no one else in line recognizes him but me and the guy behind us and i just run up to him and show him the receipt of the J Mascis Telecaster that i had just bought on Reverb the other day and he said “You got a good deal there.” Best night of my life

Literally every last thing on the online merch store is sold out. I’ve never seen that before. Is this to encourage merch booth sales during their tour?

I saw the band last night in SF (really good show!), and I noticed that whenever J would change guitars, the roadie would also change out what looked like a piece of cardboard next to the effects pedals.

My guess is that it’s some kind of cheat sheet to remember which pedals were for what. (He did have lots of pedals.) But that doesn’t totally make sense to me.

Anyone have knowledge about this?

I am reaching out to see if anyone has any resale or extra tickets for the Dinosaur Jr. show at the cats cradle in february? I am a big fan of both bands and was unable to buy tickets before they sold out. I will pay good money!

I have seen countless bands come and go, light it up and fade off into obscurity and oblivion.

Jesus it is no short of a miracle how durable and amazing J and Co. Is.

So yeah, they both love those big fuzz sounds and play guitar very well, and they’re both from around the same time when their music started and got popular, but… how did all the comparisons/collaborations/conflations start?

I don’t see them as that similar of guitarists; Dinosaur Jr and J’s stuff in general, while extremely loud and fuzzed out, especially early on, isn’t shoegaze-y at all, imo, it’s much more about structures, dividng chords and precise leads than MBV. Kevin Shields is his own genre of guitarist (which, don’t get me wrong, J is too, he’s my favorite player ever), so much so that like 90% of dudes who play shoegaze-y guitar are kinda just ripping off his techniques and gear and stuff lol.

Again, I get that J is that same level of icon, but they were across the Earth from each other as they developed their sounds, which are very different. So how/why do people always kinda lump or talk about them together? I’ve seen stuff of them meeting and talking irl, I don’t know to what degree (if it’s just like promotional gear stuff or if they’re really genuinely good friends) they interact, but does anyone know how this whole thing started?

Sorry if this is some super well-known story i J Mascis/Dinosaur lore, I know a lot about the band but as far as the members interacting with other artists, I just kinda know J’s relationship with Sonic Youth…
