Debian Stable Question Everything is slow
Help! I have a Lenovo Thinkpad E14 Gen 2 (CPU: Intel i7-1165G7) with 32 GB of ram instead of the 16 GB it came with. The laptop came with Windows 11 but in the past few days I installed Debian 13.7 GNOME on it because I hate Windows.
After I booted up into Debian for the first time all of GNOME's animations were laggy and Firefox was very slow. I did not expect this because on some other older computers I have Debian ran faster than Windows. The boot times were also slower than Windows but not by much. In fact I would say than it is barely usable because of the lag.
The strange part is that this morning I turned on my laptop and everything was smooth and not lagging. I think it took less than 15 seconds to boot too.
Could someone please explain why this is happening and provide a solution. Also if you have any questions about the situation feel free to ask.

Have you tried a different desktop environment like KDE? I like to have 2 installed so I can check if the DE is at fault if things like this happen.

I have also tested with XFCE and it was still slow

So it's not a Wayland or GNOME issue... probably a driver or power saving setting that's broken. I don't have much experience with laptops or GNOME, so can't help further, sorry.

Make sure you have the right GPU drivers, and that your RAM speed is set properly in the BIOS.

Is your E14 one of the versions with an Nvidia GPU? In that case you may be on fallback drivers and have to manually install Nvidia's proprietary driver.
