Meta The sub is rotting away

I'm an occasional user on this sub for a while and the situation lately with the quality of posts is honestly shocking.

Every time I log in and scroll the sub a good 80-90% of the posts are:

1) Tourists/immigrants/international students asking the same questions over and over

2) People thinking this is fucking Bazaraki/fb marketplace, linkedin or a dating site

3) Obnoxious passport bros and "entrepreneurs" asking professional/legal advice on reddit of all places

4) People who complain about government services/driving/public transport etc here as if anyone on fucking reddit has power to act on it

5) "Scam alerts" showing the most obvious scam messages known to the human race

I'm fucking tired of seeing shit like this. There are a million interesting things to talk about regarding Cyprus. Instead of the sub being primarily about local news, culture etc it has turned into a pseudo fb group for obnoxious people whose interest in Cyprus is instrumental at best. And the most annoying part in all these is how these people are so self-absorbed that they don't even understand how disliked their posts are and how they inflate the feed with vacuous garbage. There is supposedly a report option for repeated questions or posts like the ones I mentioned but there's rarely any action taken while some are being allowed anyway.

There's a reason why we don't get any interesting posts about Cyprus anymore. Most users who were regulars here and actually cared about the quality of the posts are fucking gone. The sub has been overtaken by temporary lurkers who treat reddit like google and occasional outsiders ragebaited by some controversial post about the Cyprus problem or Israel.

Cyrpiot Citizenship by Marriage (Same Sex)

• Upvotes

Hi

I've done some research and stuggling to find a straight (pardon the pun) answer, and hoping others have experience.

My husband is currently going through the process of becoming a Cypriot citizen by descent (his father is Cypriot, born in Cyprus before 1972 and has a Republic of Cyprus passport/id card). We are not too concerned about that and documents are being sent to Nicosia by the Embassy in London.

Once he receives his Citizenship papers, we are hoping that I can apply. We have been married in the UK since 2019 and it is a same-sex marriage. We have had conflicting information that Cyprus does not accept same-sex marriage and therefore this will be difficult, however, since then there have been EU rulings that they cannot deny citizenship based on same-sex marriage and that they would now accept this as the Cypriot equivilent of a Civil Partnership?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Help I like big mugs and I cannot buy

Hi folks!

I want to get a gift for someone important, and they love big mugs for tea, like half a litre size. We have a couple of Grande Starbucks mugs but they're plain white and a bit boring, so I'm looking for something similarly sized but a bit more colourful or interesting. I haven't really found anything else yet 🙁

I'm in Nicosia. Happy to order online too, if that's an option.

Thanks! ❤️ ☕

Help How safe is it to reserve an apartment online?

We saw an apartment being listed online for long-term rent.

How safe is it to reserve and pay the deposit online before visiting it in person? Is it unusual, or is there a risk?

Location: Limassol.

UPDATE: not going to do this, thanks for the comments!

Help iStorm pre-orders – anyone got their new iPhone yet?

Hi all, I pre-ordered the new iPhone Duo (512GB) at iStorm for pickup at Kings Avenue Mall in Paphos. The website still says "available 23/10", but customer care only sent a generic reply ("orders are fulfilled in sequence, depending on Apple's allocation").

Has anyone pre-ordered with iStorm before? Did they deliver on the date shown, or did you wait weeks? Any tips on getting a real pickup date (calling, visiting the store)?

Thanks!

Stay away from GoMo.cy like the plague.

Good afternoon, r/cyprus.

Since there's no other place to leave a review for this company, I assume Reddit would be the best.
I purchased a subscription for my mother at the beginning of the month... it's the 20th and we've yet to get the new SIM card working.

The SIM card's delivery was delayed and unnecessarily complicated. The website's support is ridiculous... the Help & Support page (and, quite frankly, the entire website) is hilariously flawed.
There are hidden terms which render the 'Unlimited' service entirely unusable after 100GB have been used: https://gomo.cy/el/terms/#b5104db66cca049ff

I've had to stay on line for several minutes, which is surprising considering their insanely limited clientele, and was always serviced by a man named 'Xenios', which is most probably not his real name. He kept interrupting, and once asked to let us finish our sentence, he told us to 'feel free to finish it' and hung up the call. Since then, the phone number always redirects to a holding line and hangs up on its own.

Xenios earlier informed us that, after receiving the SIM card, it would take 5 days to activate the phone number. Over a week later, I've sent them an email and have yet to receive a response to this day. During the aforementioned call, Xenios has let us know that some random document we sent them was insufficient, and that we would have to send it again and wait another week!

We've now just went to their website and asked the support chat 'how to cancel our subscription'. We were told to 'Log in to MyGoMo, and there will be an option to do so', with absolutely no further steps. The funny thing is that, as the screenshot shows below, the MyGoMo page's 'Help & Support' tab instructs customers to 'contact them via chat' if they would like to cancel... imagine that!

There was a 9.99EUR incurred 'activation fee', which they have been 'investigating' for the longest time now and have yet to refund us. Let me remind of the fact that it's been nineteen days! Nineteen!

With the exception of the messages where I provide the 'support agent' with sensitive personal data, here is some of our conversation.

That is all, and that's enough of my rant. The customer service is ridiculous.
Although this is what EVERY sponsored person would say, I am not being paid by any other company, nor do I have any other agenda. I simply believe it's necessary to spread awareness regarding such scummy services, so other persons do not have to go through them.

Edit: After further conversation, Mr. Constantinos (Xenios!), has informed us that the refund is processed and that our subscription has been cancelled. However, we will only get it back 'within a couple of business days'. I shall inform you within the next 19 days if Mr. Constantinos proves to be a man of his word.

Έχετε να προτείνετε κάποια σχολή, εργαστήριο ή Κέντρο Κατάρτισης στη Λεμεσό που να προσφέρει τέτοια πρακτικά μαθήματα για ενηλίκους;

Ευχαριστώ πολύ!

GOOD coffee place in Larnaca thats open at evening

Please recommend a coffee place (with GOOD coffee) in Larnaca that's open till evening, it could be a bakery, cafe, anything. I guess the best places are closed in the evening. It's even better if it's a nice chill place to sit with a small company and be able to have a good time. Thanksss!!

Hi everyone! I’m a Psychology student conducting research for my thesis on looksmaxxing, appearance-enhancement practices, and psychological well-being.

I’m looking for male participants aged 18–25 to complete an anonymous questionnaire that takes around 5 minutes.

If you’re eligible, I’d really appreciate your participation! 🖤

P.S.: The questionnaire is in Greek, so it’s appreciated to know Greek to complete it, since google translate can make mistakes 💝

Understanding Limassol

Hello everyone! I’m an Italian guy (30M) who’s soon going to move to Limassol to enjoy a more relaxed and entertaining life while working on my companies (any other Italians living in Limassol here?).

I’m trying to understand Limassol but it’s somewhat different from the cities I’m used to. Main thing that bugs me is whether to live: so far I understood that an apartment in the center might be the right choice as I would be within walking distance to restaurants, bars, shops, and activities. At the same time tho Germasogeia seems to be the advice of many people, although it’s really far from the center. Wondering it it would make sense for someone who doesn’t know the city to live so far from center.

What do you suggest?

Question Limassol's drugstores and horse riding

Hi everyone!

I'm going to Limassol this week and will stay here for work for some time. Therefore I'd like to ask about two things:

  1. I've already found out that there are no chain drugstores on Cyprus (like DM), where do I buy toiletries and cosmetics in Jermasoja?

  2. To Cyprus' horsemen: where to go for riding near Limassol? I care about nice, patient instructors (english-speaking or polish if there are any) and well treated horses

I'll be also more than grateful for any advices which may be helpful for my first time Cyprus stay. Thank y'all!

Scam email galore

Please everyone,

if the domain name of the email is not associated with the company that's mailing you DO NOT CLICK THE BUTTON.

EVEN IF THE DETAILS MATCH IN THE EMAIL SENT. [IF THE DOMAIN IS NOT ALPHABANK.COM.CY at the end then it's a scam and that's final.

If you click on the sender, it redirects to a bullshit website.

It's not difficult to do your checks, just make sure the domain [such as yahoo.com, etc] is similar to the sender.
