From the moment Valve bans the last cheater, if that day ever comes, it will take years before the community stops seeing cheaters where there are none. That's how deeply this cheating problem has damaged the community.
When was the last time you were genuinely impressed by an opponent? When was the last time you felt genuine respect for someone because of the way he took you or your teammates down?
The way they're nonchalantly handling this problem suggests one of two things, either they don't give a damn, or they do care but don't realize how serious the situation really is.
Every player who takes a break from CS right now will never come back. GTA 6 is just around the corner, and it will keep people occupied long enough to break their CS habit and realize what a nightmare they've been putting up with for months or even years.
If Valve doesn't give a damn about CS, then neither do I. I'll break the habit in a couple of weeks and never come back. But if they do care, I'd like to see them get serious and start treating this situation with the urgency it deserves.
Valve needs to start investing millions in the fight against cheaters. They need to tackle the problem from every possible angle and establish ten different teams dedicated to solving it. And If they manage to fix the cheating problem, they can only hope that one day the community will return to what it once was.
