Hello Critters,
I've been working in the camera and lighting department at CR since about 2018. I've had a hand in much of the content you've watched from then until now.
I recently pooled a micro budget from my savings along with support from my wife and a close friend to make my first feature film, which stars Whitney Moore and Laura Bailey! I’m directing it from an original script that I wrote.
It's a contained horror film called "The Devil Downstairs". Logline: A struggling artist rents out her basement to an elderly tenant for quick cash—but after the tenant’s sudden death, she starts to believe something else has moved in.
Follow the link(s) to find our film's Instagram page and follow us to stay up to date with our journey to create this cool, creepy movie!
This is a completely independent film. It is self-funded and crewed by my friends and colleagues whom I've worked with over the past 20 years. We've built a profit-sharing system within the project's layout so that if it's a success, everyone involved wins. We start filming in Los Angeles at the end of the month and will be wrapped by Thanksgiving. We'll be submitting to festivals next year and, from there, figuring out how to get this project out for the world to see!
I'll come back to post on here as often as I can, but for the quickest updates, please follow our Instagram Page.
Hit me with any questions or comments along the way!
I'm honored to have this opportunity to work with such incredible talent and put something awesome out into the world. Can't wait to share it with you all!

I think with the most recent revelation of what Sir Groveland overheard Lord Doset and Lady Univere Tachonis saying about their grandfather, Nullus, provides us with the clearest piece of the puzzle as to what the Tachonis ultimate plan is.
BRENNAN: "I overheard them talking about their grandfather and that the...
BRENNAN: "But I had overheard their conversation, which I certainly was eavesdropping for more than a moment to see what could be overheard, and, the words they spoke were that their grandfather was to be named the herald of the Hall of Mercy.
He then adds
BRENNAN: The things that Cyd said were, there's an island in the Sea of Lachris called the Hall of Mercy. Which you just heard from Groveland, that Univere had called the Fora Crucialma where pre-Shaper entities could plead their case for an entry to the afterlife. Cyd had also heard... so it was a place to petition the gods in the Tenebral Reaches. And this was before the Tenebral Reaches were even a place. They were just a thin...
I think that the original herald of the Hall of Mercy was Tansul, and there is a distinct possibility that the Tachonis, through their explorations in Tannesar, have uncovered the ritual that originally produced the Shapers, or, at the very least, the one that produced the god emperor Tansul, and Nullus' plan is to ascend to "godhood" through this ritual naming him the herald of the Hall of Mercy.
We then add to this the Obridai verse that was found in Castle Delawney by Teor.
By eight champions is borne the sepulchral lord.
Fiend from Fae must their judgment part and the Living from the Dead.
Light must they wield to keep at bay the Guardians of the Veil and bear their lord forth unto the Sea of Lachris.
Unto to the Sea of Lachris, where the blood of old may give new life to rotted flesh
and summoning forth the power of the living upon the dead.
But lo and be forewarned! Should the mist know but a single mortal breath, the spell is broken, the lord consumed by Death itself.
Murray rolls a 29 Arcana and Brennan begins to break down some of its meaning.
BRENNAN: "By eight champions is the--" You realize this isn't meant to be beautiful poetry. This is actually ancient text. It's archaic language because it's from the past, but it's fundamentally quite utilitarian. This is written by necromancers of the ancient past, pre-Shapers' War. So this is not a prophecy, it's not a religious text. This is an instruction, it's a recipe.
BRENNAN: It gives you that signature, right? Then it says, "To keep at bay the Guardians of the Veil and bear their lord forth unto the Sea of Lachris." On a 29 arcana, you've heard of the Sea of Lachris before. There is stuff in the Penteveral about it. One of the things that the necromancy department at the Penteveral has tried to do, and that Occtis was probably involved with as a student while he was there, is, the underworld used to be a thin veil between Aramán and various afterlives. It has exploded into its own geography. The underworld has expanded, expanded, expanded, and there are places within it. There are even--
BRENNAN: The underworld, literally as souls filled it up, it's like this used to be a post office box of: soul gets here on its way to the gods.
LUIS: And now this is their dwelling place.
LAURA: This is their final stop.
BRENNAN: This is their dwelling place. As such, it has expanded to become a realm unto itself. The Sea of Lachris is a theorized location with some tests having proved positive for it as the dwelling place of people who die at sea. The Sea of Lachris is just beyond the Veil into the Tenebral Reaches of basically being the ocean of the Realm of the Dead. You see, "Where the blood of old may give new life to rotted flesh and summon forth the power of the living upon the dead. But lo and be forewarned! Should the mist know but a single mortal breath, the spell is broken, the lord consumed by Death itself." On that last bit of a 29 arcana, they need people with the ability to detect, to part the living from the dead and fae from fiend, to guard the lord on this journey, on this path to the Sea of Lachris. But if those guardians draw a living breath, the spell is broken.
We also know that in Tannesar there is the Chamber of the Apotheotic Obelisk.
A beautiful room with a rose quartz window in the ceiling above an obelisk that used to have gold ornamentation and the name of Tansul on its base (recently replaced by the emblem of House Tachonis).
While episode 18 suggested that this was to define the loyalties and ownership of the celestial that would be created in the temple, in the most recent case, the Deva Vindicta, we also know that apotheosis is the process of a mortal ascending to godhood. Because Tansul's name was originally on the base of the Apotheotic Obelisk, this could also suggest that Tansul was a mortal that ascended to the level of a Shaper.
If the Tachonis have pieced together the ritual that allowed for Tansul's ascension, we may be now looking at them trying to recreate the ritual for Nullus.
We also have Yanessa's musings on the Shapers.
If you can kill them, are they gods?
This may be an indication that the entities that became Shapers were, at one point, mortal, and that even the ritual of ascension left them with some vulnerabilities.
We also know from the meeting of the Sundered Houses at the Villa Aurora that Primus play was to reestablish the Empire and have the other Houses bend the knee. This would be far easier if his father ascended to become the sole Shaper in Aramán post the Shapers War.
The Sepulchral Lords are likely the ones that are needed in the ritual to name the herald of the Hall of Mercy, and as it was mentioned that there were two score and seven, there likely have to be 47 to complete the ritual, and the one that Primus is racing to get through the Sea Door is probably the 47th and final one that will be needed to complete the ritual to allow Nullus to ascend. Each lord likely needs to have died prior to the Shapers War, which is why Doset and Univere discarded the Sarcophagus that contained a noble that was only dead 50 years, and why they were so intent on making sure that the "lord" that they were transporting had not been claimed by the Pit. Each lord then needs 8 Paladin statues to transport it, so if the Seekers can recover Ulbid's daughters, the Tachonis would have to find and Petrify 3 more Paladins before they could attempt to transport the final lord through the Sea Door. With that delay, it may give enough time for The Cloak to find a way to permanently close off access to the Sea Door, making it very difficult or impossible to complete the ritual.

I apologize, this is long.
So, per eps 38 and 39, the Duchess Lisabetta's hope (and through her, King Gus) to avoid outright war with the Tachonis is if there were a schism within House Tachonis.
Occtis, obviously, has done the math and is all too aware that as things stand right now, there is no way he could go head-to-head with his father and the rest of their family, never mind however many favours Primus might call in to guarantee that Occtis gets put down permanently.
And so, not surprisingly, he told King Gus that he will be the Wizard Occtis... FOR NOW.
And Demodus tells Occtis that what he thinks the world needs right now is the Wizard Occtis, not the Lord Tachonis.
But I just put a few other things together.
-----
Occtis HEARD his father at Obrimus Manor saying:
PRIMUS: We will either rule this world before the year is out or we will all be dead! Do you understand? The druids can choke in blood! We will either defeat them or we won't be around long enough to see their reprisal.
And Occtis (and the others) saw, during the battle of Hawthorn's Glade, that the Creed members they were fighting did have filament tattoos, but:
BRENNAN: You see, glowing with filamental tattoos, the same that Wick has on his face, this member of the Creed. But you see the tattoos sputter and glow, like they might be not fully, you know...
BRENNAN: ... On a 26 arcana, you are looking at the filamental tattoos this guy has, which are flickering like they were in the glade. He is saying this is because his soul is unworthy. On close inspection, the filament in these tattoos has been mixed with lamp oil. It has been cut to produce a larger amount.
-----
Meanwhile, Kattigan (albeit trussed up in a sack at the time) was at the meeting of the Lords of the Sundered Houses, where Primus pointed out all of the various schemes that the Houses (sans Royce) have been attempting to carry out... *ALL* of which are tied to giving said Houses power equivalent to (or possibly even greater than) what they normally have.
-----
What if *ALL* of the Sundered Houses are actually losing their magic? What if this is why they're all making huge and potentially desperate swings to claw at power that they've been content to simply coast on unchallenged for the past seventy years?
-----
As the youngest of all the Mourners, Occtis was three years old when the Falconer's Rebellion started... and by the time he and Thimble met when he was eight (at which point the Falconer's Rebellion had just ended), it had already been determined that he had no sorcery. When he was twelve, the doors of Faerie closed in response to the explosion of souls in the Underworld in close proximity to the world of Faerie.
What EXACTLY did Thjazi do, during the Falconer's Rebellion and WHEN exactly? Did he set SOMETHING in motion that led to the Sundered Houses losing power, including (unfortunately) House Royce when whatever he did chain-reactioned into the Underworld explosion? Would it have sundered Occtis' innate connection to sorcery before it could ever properly manifest?
-----
But the REALLY big thing that my brain is taking away from all this rambling... if the Tachonis sorcerers *ALL* lose their power... and Occtis is the *ONLY* Tachonis left with magic because he uses wizardry and not sorcery... would that mean, by year's end, that a real case could be made for him being the one TRUE Tachonis?
Fighting a fully-powered Primus for leadership is one thing... demonstrating beyond a shadow of a doubt in a royal court that all of House Tachonis has lost its sorcery, leaving only one with magic after all is said and done... that's a whole other kettle of fish.
-----
Side note: If it's true that the Sundered Houses are all losing their sorcery, small wonder that House Cormoray is moving to gain control of the Penteveral... it's not just about them cranking out Arcane Marshals of their own to hunt down all other wizards... they don't want to be on the RECEIVING end of wizards stomping on THEM the same way that the Sundered Houses have been stomping on the rest of the populace for the past seventy years.

[made a small edit and messed up the whole thing, resetting it to my og post] I’m back with another long theory post and would love everyone's thoughts! I’m sleuthing around like the rest of you all in good fun, so please feel free to share any different theories, plot holes, misunderstood facts, and more below.
Please stop reading if you are not caught up to Campaign 4, Episode 39 of Critical Role, because this is a full spoiler post.
Cracking in, I want to lead with my thesis:
House Tachonis is less magically strong than we have come to believe, growing weaker each generation, and is currently weaker than its fellow Sundered Houses (unbeknownst to them). Primus's goal is to reverse that misfortune in two ways: securing his sorcery bloodline and obtaining full control over the afterlives by making Nullus the herald of the Hall of Mercy.
Sundered Houses
Known:
Perception:
Uncovered:
My Theory:
There are few sorcerers in Araman, just as there are few clerics, and this is the crux of what Primus must change in order for his family to regain pre-Shapers war powers and become the Emperor of Old Obredemi
Reasoning:
Further theory:
It stands to reason that after the Shapers War, House Tachonis and Halovar knew that the current generation was the last line of sorcerers that we blessed by the divine powers of their now-dead god, Tansul
Knowing they are in a weak position, both Tachonis and Halovar move swiftly to make political alliances with the other Sundered houses still standing, Einfasen, Cormorany, and Royce
These houses (Einfasen, Cormorany, and Royce) are none the wiser, or tricked, because the Shapers have not been gone that long; it was not yet clear that the Halovars and Tachonis had lost the height of their powers long term.
Tachonis and Halovar are playing two different long games to regain their power and using the other houses to do it.
Sea of Lachris Tachonis Plan + Goal:
Uncovered:
My theory:
Sepulchral Lords must NOT be located in the Tenebral Reaches, The Pit, or on the Old Path, so they therefore MUST be within one of the dead Shapers’ afterlives for this plan to work.
Reasoning:

I've noticed a really big difference in the way that Brennan and Matt interpret roll outcomes and was curious as to why that might be, other than them being different people obviously. To be clear, I enjoy them both!
I've found that regardless of a roll, Matt will have a response that varies from "You manage to complete the task" to "You really manage to fucking complete the task" with more emphasis put vocally on the accomplishment if the roll is high.
Brennan on the other hand I've noticed has a kind of layered reward system that is incorporated depending on the scale of the roll, in combat and out. He reveals tidbits of relevant information regarding the situation, a person or an action, very much so if a person achieves a nat 20.
I was rewatching episodes of C2 and C3 today and it really became apparent to me after watching the recent C4 episodes. I don't follow any of the cast and I don't know too much about them, so I was just curious if there is a specific reason?
r/criticalrole • u/ajchann123 • 1d ago
The cast didn't expressly say who they were actually dressed as, so I figured I'd quickly post the (imo) most possible matches:
Brennan: Captain Kirk (Star Trek), seeking new horizons
Matt: Indigo Montoya (The Princess Bride), seeking revenge for his father
Taliesin: Hannibal Lecter (The Silence of the Lambs), seeking a nice meal
Robbie: Odysseus (The Odyssey), seeking his wife
Ashley: Ellie Arroway (Contact), seeking outer space
Laura: The Bride/Beatrix (Kill Bill), seeking revenge
Alex: Kakihara (Ichi the Killer), seeking the perfect sadist
Edit: correction

I've only managed 46 hours in about 2 months due to health getting worse, but as long as Brennan keeps C4 going for at least 3 more years, I should have enough time :)

Hi All.
My daughter bought 2 tickets to the Dallas Live Show for Dec 3, 2026. She bought them the day after they went on sale last year. Since then, both she and her husband changed employers and now live several states away. The cost to actually attend is higher than can be afforded.
She went to resell the tickets and was just hoping to recoup some of what she paid. The tickets were $136 each. Now it seems there are tons of tickets still available to the show and some are less expensive for seats near hers.
She bought hers well over a year ago thinking the show would sell out fast. Don't they usually sell out fast? Is there something about the Dallas show we don't know about?

It’s that they are too powerful.
They are suffering from the same problem Royce has been having but in reverse. The overflowing of the Tenebral Reaches forced the doors to Faery closed and severely weakened their magic. Conversely, this same phenomenon is also overcharging the Tachonis’ magic, which is why Doset and Univere had to cast Detect Magic at second level instead of first. They literally couldn’t cast it any lower because their lowest spell slots are 2nd level. If this is true, then their plan with the Hall of Mercy is to perhaps use it as release valve, saving themselves from being overwhelmed by their own magics and having complete control over the souls of Araman.

Heya, I'm a fairly new critter (about a year now, little less). Got pulled into it through the Mighty Nein show and have been watching the campaign in the past year (currently on c126). This is a silly thing to probably post and it's so extremely specific that nobody might ever need it, but:
Small bit of context: I like to write fanfiction. I've been working on something with Caleb as the primary pov character, and then I started to think about his handwriting and wondered if there was anything stated about it before I started making things up that were stated.
When I googled it I couldn't find anything concrete, just people assuming/headcanoning- and then I remembered that there is a print that comes with the collector's edition of The 2nd volume of Chronicles of Exandria - The Mighty Nein, that is Caleb's notes on the beacon. Written in his handwriting (+ a small Jester cameo. Thanks to her additions you can tell it's Caleb's notes, so thank you Jester!)
So I figured I'd simply post some close-ups here in case anyone else ever had the same question as I did without having spent entirely too much money on a book 🫡. I hope this is okay to post, I don't think there's anything really spoilery in here, but if it is please tell me so I can change/repost with appropriate tsg. I'm a bit of a reddit newbie in terms of posting anything.

It’s my first live show so I’m very excited but quite nervous.
I’ll be arriving to the O2 about half an hour before doors open, will there be places nearby where other critters will be hanging around?
Also unfortunately I don’t have bag space for a full cosplay so if anyone has any suggestions for something small I could do to get engaged with that side of the event then please tell me!

What’s everyone’s ideas about the possibility of Tachonis being either a diseased sorcerer house or a house that had to pivot to being warlocks of some kind after tansul’s death. For the halovars it’s already been theorized that a good bit of the younger generations are aasimar sorcerers while Yanessa is a fiend warlock connected to the pit/kshaaravi. And for the cormorays and einfasen they seem to be pure djinn and giant sorcerers with a couple more martial focused classes thrown in. Were the Royces or their servants pure fey sorcerers or were some of them fey warlocks?

Hello everyone! Unfortunately, I need to sell 2 tickets to the October 26th London Live Show at the OVO Wembley. I bought them last year and was so excited, but plans have changed. I was lucky enough to get accepted to my dream university, which has of course taken up a lot of my finances, and unfortunately it is no longer feesable to attend. I am gutted, but know I have been very blessed this year, and so am trying to look on the bright side!
I bought the tickets via AXS and have them on Mobile ID. I have tried to use the Official AXS Resale site, which it states very clearly on their website is the only listed and safe platform for ticket selling to prevent scalping and scams. However, it does not give me the option to sell them. I have tried to contact AXS Support, and they told me that CR have not given permission for resales yet, and that they are waiting on CR to give the go ahead to allow the reselling of tickets. This seems very late, as the show is only 10 days away!
Has anyone else had any luck reselling? I don't want there to be empty seats and for people to miss out on their chance to go. I want to know that even though its so sad I cant afford to attend this year, that other critters got to make amazing memories. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Was it supposed to be about dungeon exploration, lore, treasure hunting? The last two games have been improv sessions with a side of scheming. Nothing wrong with that, I'm just wondering if I didn't quite get what the play style was supposed to be.

I know many critters aren't super familiar with Hololive and possibly since the announcement looked them up and got extremely overwhelmed by the sheer amount of new information that turns up and the daunting task of seeing the hundreds of stream VODs every member has. With no good easy start point like a Campaign first episode, figured I'd give a run down on all the new members, what you might expect from them for this campaign vibes wise, as well good streams to check out if you want to start somewhere in watching them pre-series start. Obviously this is also just my personal expectations on what character they'll play, the reality as always for every campaign is we won't know until it starts.
Nerissa Ravencroft: Hololive's resident self described diva. She very much loves to act dramatically and has zero hesitation to make herself the butt of her own and other people's jokes, all in good humor. Very much a stereotypical theater kid, expect her to get very into character extremely quickly and be more then happy to suffer the consequences of her own actions, bad dice rolls or get into conflict with other PCs, if it's in character. Except her to play someone either haughty and confident, or slightly reserved and naive. For checking out the kinds of streams she hosts, I recommend starting with her recently finished Wind Waker Playthough.
Shiori Novella: Hololive's paramount gigantic nerd. Extremely smart and witty, very much enjoys poking at people's buttons and then immediately feeling bad about it, but never at all enough to stop. Expect her to get very into character and is very likely to be both the one to work out any mysteries and worries of the plot, but also enjoy the chance to introduce chaos, both in and out of character. Expect her to be playing someone smart and aloof. Good streams to check out for her would be her recent Resident Evil Requiem Streams or her Portal 2 Streams
Mori Calliope: Hololive's own personal Forever DM/Matt level workaholic. Has the most experience with TTRPGs of all the assembled players, though most of that is as a DM. Will likely be very happy to replace her usual experience with playing a few dozen characters at once to focus on just playing one. As a PC tends to play characters who would prefer the plot and horror of the week leave her alone to grill, so we'll see if that carries on for this campaign. Except her to play someone barely keeping track of whatever the hell is going on. Good streams to check out for her would be her Asura's Wrath playthrough or her Space Marines 2 playthrough or one of her oneshot TTRPG sessions, Episode 0 and Episode 1.
Gigi Murin: Hololive's own endless font of energy, optimism and extreme trolling. Very much enjoys inflicting Sam Riegel ad read levels of chaos, well also being more then happy to inflict terrible, soul deep trauma on herself and other players. Very much enjoys playing a 'I'm just a little guy' character, who will never the less focus on resolving the plot, saving the day and posing sadly in the rain. For her, a good start is her Outer Wilds playthrough
