Is it bad for someone to revert if they know they’re going to continue to live a sinful lifestyle?
I posted this on the main Islam subreddit but I wanted some perspectives specifically from people who have reverted.
Is it bad for someone to revert to Islam if they know they’re likely not going to change their lifestyle at all?
Lately I’ve been interested in Islam, a lot of my friends are Muslim. I’m still very agnostic/leaning atheist so I’m not exactly committed to anything yet, just learning about it.
Let’s say someone knows they’re not going to wear a hijab or change how they dress at all, really. They plan to continue to drink and eat pork. For whatever reason, they know they’re going to continue to sin and likely won’t give up those habits. Would it be disrespectful or offensive for someone to revert to Islam?
A woman on social media basically did this, and some people in her comments were like “why did you become Muslim if you’re not even going to try”, other people were like “it’s better to be a Muslim who does all this than not be Muslim at all”. She said she isn’t changing any of what she does but she’s still Muslim (to be clear she was very polite and respectful about it).
How is this sort of issue viewed in Islam?
