Music Celestial Forest (original composition)

A forest at nighttime; slivers of moonlight stream through the canopy above and reflections of stars glimmer in the brook that runs alongside a worn path. Crumbling statues, covered by moss and succumbing to the passage of time, can be found throughout this forest; vestiges of a world long past.

Found some FX I liked on the guitar VST and wrote this simple, sort of experimental piece to work through some creative block, hoping it will help to untangle some of that blocked energy. Experimental for me in the sense that I don't use guitar very often, admittedly because writing for it feels a bit foreign to me, even after studying guitar scores... Music really is such a life-long learning process. :)

Music “Waltz of Petals” by Suffocatus (Neoclassical Waltz). What do you think about it?

• Upvotes

I worked on this composition for almost a year and a half. I wrote the first part initially, but then I ran out of ideas. I kept coming back to it, trying to add something, change things, and rewrite parts of it. Finally, I finished it about a year ago.
The motivation behind it was the most ordinary thing in the world: being in love. 😆
I’d love to hear your thoughts! And if you’d like to listen to the full piece, I’m leaving the link below:

Music I need some feedback for a Piano/Clarinet Composition

I made a short piece that's not meant to be taken that seriously (that's why it's called Humoreske) and I'd like to know what I did well and what needs improvement.

https://musescore.com/user/98001304/scores/39487220?share=copy_link

Also any advice on how to make the score look better is appreciated.

If you don't have the time, a short "I like it because..." or "It sucks because..." would already be appreciated.

Thanks : )

Music VERY WIP, writing a longer orchestral work and would like some feedback on form, thematics and structure/coherence

The Irish word “Loinnir” (pronounced Lin-ir) translates roughly to “glittering, gleaming, or glowing”. Inspired by that definition, I decided to start writing with those types of colors/timbres in mind. I Mostly like my ideas, just wondering if it’s coherent???

Music I arranged The Tell-Tale Heart for a "cyber-gothic quartet"—four distinct voices drifting in and out of phase to mirror the narrator's fracturing mind. (Headphones recommended)

Helloooo!

I made a composition using four readings of The Tell-Tale Heart, sourced from LibriVox. I tried to make it move like a translation of the narrator's mind. I have split it into sections and have been making videos to go along with it. I have been working on a couple of different styles for the videos. Please let me know what you think! I can't post the video here, but you can find the different parts on my tiktok page.

Music This is more an attempt with using more instruments.

I didn't remember that years ago I have bought two VST instruments from Vienna instrument pro.

The Appassionata strings and the flute.

I tried to use them with the harpsichord vst, I enjoyed it very much but I have no idea on composing with more instruments so I am trying.

Does it sound quite good?

I've always wanted to write a string quartet, so I decided to give it a try. I wanted to start with something simple, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

What could I improve? Any feedback is welcome!

(Sorry, i’ll write in spanish but you can tap the translator tool🙏🏼)

Music Is this playable on the guitar?

Hi, dear guitarists. I’m an amateur composer - not a guitarist - and I usually compose in the classical style. But I wanted to try a cooler sound, so I wrote this. I do have a question, though. Is this playable on the guitar? Or is it more suited for the piano?

Music Feedback on a Short Gnome-themed Piano Romance

I'm pretty new to composing and haven't had any formal composition lessons, so I was hoping to get some feedback on this new piece I composed! It's a short piano romance that's themed around gnomes, so it's meant to sound a little silly. Anyway, I'd really appreciate any feedback, whether it's in regards to the piece as a whole, or the structure, harmony, textures, etc.

Here's a youtube link to the video in case the embedded video doesn't play: https://youtu.be/RUiAh9jNozk?si=zeefTMFCbJm7NQve

Hopefully this is fine with the posting rules here, thanks for listening/reading!

Discussion Help With Reimagining Material

Recently I have been discovering a lot of Mahler's song cycles (they are amazing highly reccommend if u like Mahler but want something a but lighter than his symphonies), and I stumbled upon “Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen” and something just clicked. It was the perfect 3rd mvt for my personal string suite that I've been writing so I wanted to transform the material into the slow mvt (I thought it would be a nice nod to Mahler too given that he had famously done a similar thing with many of his other songs featured in his 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th symphonies).

Here's where my problem lies. The vocal line doesn't translate very well into a slow mvt for string orchestra (which is fine because I wanted to change it anyway), but I'm struggling to figure out a different melody to take its place.

If you have any ideas, I am very interested to hear them!

Thanks!

(I would post what I have already, but I'm having some issues with musescore and can't)

Music First piece from a set of simple(ish) piano etudes I composed

I am a pianist and composer and this is my first time composing a set of pieces with a specific form in mind. I adore the etudes by Philip Glass and Chopin and I wanted to try write a set in my own style.

This first one takes a simple pattern and develops it with simple voice leading. It‘s not a complicated one but I do love it.

I would love to know what you think of it. Also, if anyone wants to play it I am happy to share the sheet music.

Music [AAP] How do you let the melody carry a tune without getting boring? Here are some tricks I used

Sometimes I write super complex fugues, but sometimes I'll just write a simple pop piano melody like this one. I had wanted the arrangement to be reminiscent of the Feather Theme from Forrest Gump, but I get bored of rote repetition. So there are subtle changes in the arrangement.

The form is A1-B1-A2-C-A3-B2.

A1 introduces the melody in the upper register. B1 is for contrast. A2 simply brings the arrangement down an octave, and I chose the key partly to make that possible.

The C section is for fresh contrast, at first seeming like a repeat of B1, but imo it is just different enough to create some new interest, and it serves as the setup for a modulation.

Then A3 is in C major, which gives fresh arrangement possibilities. The LH drops to low C in the middle, and then moves into the treble clef during the extended ending with the RH going way up high where the piano can really sparkle, before the B section returns to close the song.

I think the modulation to C works because in a pop song, you'd typically expect the modulation coming out of a "bridge" to move up a tone. Each change in register works to give just a little bit of freshness each time the theme comes back. The B (4 bars) and C sections (8 bars) are structured to be a little surprising but not too surprising.

What do you think? Does it work? What tricks do you like to use to create interest in a simple piece of music?

Discussion Major dilemma : I was inspired by AI to write a short piece

I had a “compilation” of piano and orchestral music come up while I was just browsing and listening to random music . I heard something I thought was interested , so I got inspired and started writing some ideas based off of it . After writing a few measures and coming up with a structure of a short piece , I looked closer at the video and it said it was all generated by AI . So I got inspired by AI to start a compositional idea . I don’t know how to resolve this conflict . Going forward , do I need to be vigilant about what music I consume ? What if I try to, but still end up consuming created by ai anyways ? Since everyone won’t disclose .
