Help/Repair Out of beat?

• Upvotes

This is a Seth Thomas “Lincoln” clock. Is it out of beat?

The pendulum doesn’t look like it is parallel to the back - it seems on a slight angle (right side angled toward the back) and I can’t correct it. I’ve tried to level the clock but every time I try to put something under the case to tilt it a little, the clock is unstable and I don’t want it to fall over and break. So I just let it sit on the table (table is level).

Identification/Information Ansonia clock given to me by a friend.

Received this functioning Ansonia from a friend who was moving and was going to throw it away. He said It was in his family for many years but didn’t have an interest in keeping it. It’s not in the greatest of shape but I’ll assume it’s at least 100 years old, if not more. No identification on the back or inside other than the nailed-in Ansonia Clock Co. US logo and what appears to be Made in USA under the 12 o’clock position numeral . Simple bell as an alarm and a 2 part pendulum. The front glass has etched herons and cattails and the clock is 20 inches tall. Not really interested in selling it as it works great, but any information as to the manufacturing year and model would be really helpful, thanks!

I stopped at a yard sale yesterday because I saw the Waltham sitting off to the side. We got to talking and she sold it to me for $20! It mostly works.. It only strikes a single ding at the half hour and top of the hour (it didn't reset at 12 either). I think the counter wheel isn't dropping, but should be an easy fix once I find my oil and take off the face!

She asked me if I wanted to see the grandfather clock she had for sale for $600. I told her I can't afford that, but would love to look at it regardless.

She's selling it to me for $100!! She's elderly and moving across country to be near family and said she would rather sell for a low price to someone who will treasure it than to a dealer. It's a Howard Miller Dresden and in perfect condition! She just had it serviced and has the paperwork to show for it.

Clock people are the best ❤️

First off happy to be in the group. I have about 12 or 13 old clocks in my home and love them all. I was recently at a sale and picked up a bunch of movements. I was curious as to what they may go to. I have others besides the KSU, I have a UW66020, Herm 1161-853, and UW66015. Any help greatly appreciated.

Help/Repair A little time if you can spare a minute?

I picked up this 73 Emil Schmeckenbeckar 1050 - 020 mantel clock is Texas. I'm in NY now. Can someone please point me in the direction on 1. where to find the fast and slow time "screw" "lever" "secret door". and 2. How to work the triple chime lever on the left side of the clock assembly. I have tried to research this and so far everything I've read doesn't seem to match what I got. I've attached 1 photo of the inside plate. I cannot find the time speed adjustment screw at all. I see a + and a - on either side of the top but no screw associated with those symbols. As for the triple chime feature. It is reported that this clock plays Westminster, Whittington and St. Michael melodies but when I push the lever down or up I got no chime at all. Finally found the Westminster tune again and left it where it stayed. If someone can help I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for your time...

Steve

Identification/Information Found in an estate/salvage sale warehouse

Found this in an estate sale/salvage warehouse. I don't know shit about fuck when it comes to clocks, but I know fine woodworking and this thing captivated me. Plus I've always wanted a grandfather clock. $800? It would irresponsible to my future wellbeing not to get it. Come to find out it's a Heritage Heirlooms clock from 1991 (with a Kieninger movement made in 1990) that probably hasn't run in 30 years. Another week or so and I get to hear it tick and chime in my dining room. Anyone have more background about this company or these clocks? I can't find much online. I can tell from the clock itself that they put absolutely exceptional craftsmanship and materials into the cabinets.

Identification/Information Zenith alarm table clock, movement stamped “13 / 1103”: identification and service info?

Thumbnail

Hello,

I’m looking for information on this Zenith table clock with alarm. The movement is stamped “Zenith Watch Co. Swiss Made” with “13” inside the logo, “1103” next to it. The same number, 1103, is written in pencil inside the case back.

What I can see: two barrels (time and alarm), lever escapement on a separate platform with a jewelled balance and index regulator, bell mounted on the back. I can’t measure the movement right now, but I can do it in the next few days if the dimensions are needed for identification.

According to the owner, about 30 years ago the winding started turning freely without resistance, so I suspect a broken mainspring or a click problem. The balance swings freely when the movement is moved.

My questions:

  1. Does anyone know the calibre name or number, and the approximate period?
  2. Does “13” refer to the jewel count or something else?
  3. Has anyone serviced one of these? Any known weak points, original mainspring dimensions or lubrication notes would be very welcome.

I’m a watchmaking student (movement assembly training in Switzerland), and I might try to service it myself.

Thanks in advance.

Help/Repair Help with my Braun clock

Post image
1 Upvotes

Dear all,

I’m having a problem with my Braun Teachers clock. It’s a very fond gift I received brand new something like 2 years ago.

All of a sudden, the clock hand are not in the place they should be - now the battery is dead too, but that is a simple fix. I’m attaching a photo where it’s 5:30 just so you can see what the problem is.

Is it possible to repair this kind of a clock? Is it a simple fix?

Thank you so much and sorry for my lack of knowledge.

Identification/Information Best place to sell my clocks

I am moving and I need to sell some of the clocks I've inherited. As I am not a clock expert or collector myself, and I'm on a bit of a deadline, I was wondering if anyone could advise me on the best way to handle this expeditiously. I've looked up the value using Google Lens and two do not seem very high value, and the third could be, but it needs repair so that knocks it down. I don't think posting these on FB will yield me the best response and I'd rather just take them somewhere and handle it all at once so I thought that might be a clock collector or antiques dealer. The clocks are:

  1. William Widdop gold toned English carriage clock- works

  2. Garrard Precision brass mantel clock (with personal inscription on the top)- need battery to check condition

  3. Jaegar-LeCoultre Atmos clock- shows some wear and needs tuning

I'm more concerned with handling this quickly/conveniently and finding them the right home, than getting top dollar for them. Thanks.

Identification/Information Seiko desk clock, likely purchased in late 80s - early 90s

Hi, this clock was gifted to my late uncle after he graduated (from either college or medical school), and it was passed down to me so it has a lot of sentimental value.

It stopped working recently so I brought it to a shop and they said that the movement needs to be replaced. They were unable to find the right movement after a few weeks, so I took it back. They did tell me that the gear inside is plastic, which may have led to it malfunctioning after a while had past.

I estimate that it was purchased in the late 80s-early 90s since that’s when my uncle would’ve graduated either college or med school. If somebody who is interested could help me identify it and the correct movement, I would be very thankful!!

Also: it might not be visible in the first image, but it does say “Japan” under the 6th hour mark. Not sure if that’s helpful, but might be worth mentioning.

Help/Repair Pendulum stops swinging

We bought this cuendet cuckoo clock at an estate sale for $100. Never owned one before, but I loved how it looked and always wanted a cuckoo clock. The paperwork we got with it says it was bought in 1986 in switzlerland

Got everything level horizontally/vertivally with a level and the pendulum stops swinging after 30 seconds. What are we doing wrong? Should we just bring it to a clocksmith for service?

The cookoo noise works snd so does the music if you manually move the hour hand to 12 and 6

Identification/Information Artco Luminous Brass Alarm Clock

Post image

Found a super cool brass artco alarm clock for $5. Wondering if anyone has any information specific to this clock in particular? The numbers seem to be hand painted, and glows like it is radium paint? I don’t know very much about clocks (I know basically nothing) so I’m not sure what it’ll take to get it up and running again but it’s very cool! Ignore the sticker glue lol

Help/Repair Clock Upcycling Question

If I were to buy a clock like this or this, how difficult would it be to swap out the old clock mechanism for a newer, silent mechanism? I love the design of these 90's clocks, but I hate the ticking sound they usually have. I'd love to have the 90s aesthetic with a silent clock mechanism. Have other people done swaps like this before? I'm hoping I could fit the old hands on a new silent mechanism, but I guess I won't know for sure until I try. Any thoughts or advice on a project like this? Thanks!

Help/Repair Antique wooden wall clock won’t run when hanging – any ideas?

Looking for help with this wall clock.

When hanging on the wall it doesn’t run at all.

When I lay it flat, the gears start moving.

Also, one of the hands moves very easily with a finger, while the other has a bit of tension.

I don’t want to open the movement.

What could be the problem?

And can some one indentify them?

Also, roughly how much would it cost to have this clock professionally cleaned and repaired?

G'day.

I'm fairly confident in the identification of the clock. But i cant find any photos of an actual clock other than the one i'm purchasing. It obviously needs some parts but i'd love some photos of a complete example.

So if you have pics or parts please hit me up!

Help/Repair Question about Quartz movements and weight limits

Hello,

I'm trying to understand the limitations clock movements have with the weight of the clock face. I understand that the hands themselves need to be light enough, but at what point does the weight of the clock face affect the timekeeping of a movement as well?

In constructing a basic clock, with a fairly cheap mass produced quartz movement, at what kind of weight do you need to pivot from hanging the clock from the integrated hook in the movement to creating a custom hook/hanger to take the weight instead?

Sorry if this seems like a daft question. The clock movements I've see online don't specify weight limits, so I'm a bit lost

Thank you

My mother was promised her grandmother’s cuckoo clock years ago. Unfortunately, my Aunt manipulated the situation and it is now promised to her. My mom is heartbroken. The first photo is my great-grandmother’s clock, the second photo is from a deleted account and it is identical! If this person is still here under a different account or if you have a near identical cuckoo clock, I’d love talk price!

Help/Repair Sessions Clock - How Much Restoration Should I Do?

Thumbnail
gallery
14 Upvotes

Hey There - This site has been a great resource. Glad to have found it. Someone was kind enough to help me find my exact Sessions model. Apparently it is a circa 1919 Jefferson. Now I have looked at a lot of clocks that last month and I have NEVER seen this model. Some close variations but not this model. Is it worth anything? Runs, keeps time and dings/dongs.

I digress. I watched a variety of restoration videos and I would like your opinion on how far I should take this? The case itself is in good shape. I was going to wash it (carefully) with some soapy water and maybe Murphy's oil it unless someone says it's a bad idea.

What about the flourish at the top and bottom of the columns? They have a gold luster. Says 'gilt metal trimmings'. I'm not sure if they were once shiny gold or always a little dull. Should I remove them and touch them up with some gold spray paint?

The clock face glass cover is welded into place so I am hesitant to use Brasso on the ring. However, if it needs to be polished to achieve 'the look' I'm willing to do.

So - What are your thoughts?
