Forever Yes, please new mounts! No, thanks no immersion breaking ghost mounts! I would love to see new race mounts with interesting features and some armor variety!
Since WC3 my favourite race is NE. I am tired of the same 3 mount models! So YES I want new mounts in WoW Forever. But I want mounts that:
- are immersive (fit the race/lore)
- stay true to the classic world / artstyle
- stay decent (not overtuned in features)
Just to give some examples ...
- class themed race mounts
- a variety of armor/saddle versions
- different fur/skin/feather/bone/metal colours
And if the devs cannot help themselves but implement a bear mount. Why is the bear spectral? Why not just a normal bear with a nice features? Why this immersion breaking ghost version?
Don't give me the "you don't have to use it" BS. It is also immersion breaking if others use it. And not using the spectral bear doesn't result in new mounts for my race.
AI created the moon tiger based on this prompt: "look at this world of warcraft mount versions. create a new version that is moon priest themed (add details). fur should have real fur colours. keep the art style and immersion!"

it’s not about what you would like, it’s about what the whales will buy in the cash shop
40
u/Parkatine 10h ago
Except you will hardly see this Bear, its a reward from the Loyalty system that requires hours of play and several alt playthroughs to complete.
21
u/Valriss 9h ago
Hell, for anyone who doesn't know, it's worse than you're making it sound. It's basically the "I beat the game." mount. To actually get enough points that you hit the bear it's...
Every class to 60, every profession to 300, all 4 BG reps to exalted, clear all the raids, and that's still leaving off the easy to do things like explore every zone and do a quest chain.
Until they add more point sources, things like the 4 BG reps are going to make this thing a year+ grind for the average player.
8
u/Krogholm2 8h ago
You can hit 55 points without the bgs but yeah it's a grind i can't wait to start 🙂

u/IcyHammer 9h ago
They will buy something that stands out enough and ia expensive enough to be the reason for not everone else having it. So its about making a smart supply here and demand will follow because they dont have other choice, its all a pissing contest at the end of the day. So blizz could tune them down and still sell the same amount.

u/Prettybroki 9h ago
how many people had this? like its fine to have it in low pop
5
u/chicken_ucker 9h ago
The bear takes like 55 legacy points to obtain. It's going to be rare for a while
2
u/Prettybroki 9h ago
dont you need every class at 60?
2
u/chicken_ucker 9h ago
That's part of it. I think you get around 20 points for that. But you'll also need to get everything explored, multiple exalted factions, pvp ranks, professiosns and more. It's definitely an investment
2
u/Prettybroki 9h ago
so yes "a while" its a big strech if you do something like that you surly deserve to be seen with something good looking
5
u/nickfill4honor 9h ago
That’s not even comparable. Let’s be realistic about how many Spectral Tiger cards ever actually existed versus a perpetual marketplace you can buy it and gift to anyone.
The TCG added exclusivity and idc if a whale wants to hunt down a car or buy 50 boxes of TCG.
That’s not the same as logging in, seeing a new retail model mount on the storefront and swiping for $25
3
u/randomosis 8h ago
This isn't a store mount though, its from getting 55 of 65 legacy points which is an absurd grind.

u/KupoMoogle93 9h ago
It's not really in the spirit of vanilla imo because that was extremely rare, which sorta just made it more acceptable because very few people had it.
An extremely rare mount kinda breaking the rules a bit is okay.1
u/Krogholm2 8h ago
Going out on a limb here but i recon the bear will be much more rare atleast in the first 12-18 months compared to spectral tiger.
1
u/KupoMoogle93 8h ago
Isn't Spectral Tiger a limited number mount tho? I just don't think it's the same thing really.
1
u/_BreakingGood_ 7h ago
I suppose they could put a limit on cash shop items and just charge a shit ton for them
8
u/Lingarien 9h ago
Yeah, not a fan of the idea of ghost-mounts.
Closest I feel is "acceptable" would be an Undead horse that might have a bit of a "ghost aura".
---
That said, while on the topic of mounts, semi-related:
I wouldn't mind some Cross-Race mounts.
Rather than cross-faction. (Wolf with Night-Elf armor, Cat with Orc-armor, etc.)
A Kodo with troll-decorations, feathers and wooden Mask.
A Raptor with Undead-style spikes and skulls.
A MechanoStrider with the metal head of a Ram. Was gonna say "That looks like a ram", but fully mechanical mounts might be immersion breaking, even if MechanoStrider are already a thing.
A Horse with Dwarven armor, helmet with Ram-horns.
Etc, Etc.
Would make sense that the races actually working together would be willing to lend eachother some equipment for their mounts

u/No-Scratch1604 9h ago
Why does Blizz love spectral mounts so much? They aren't that cool
28
u/Renriak 9h ago
Because they have data showing people like them, clearly
12
u/ThatPerspective1277 9h ago
This and they're super cheap to make. Literally just a recolor of some random animal plus a glowing halloween filter.

•
u/MakeshiftApe 1h ago
Obligatory I'm a new player disclaimer.
But what about having spectral mounts as something available while dead? Essentially ghost mounts that you can use while dead to travel to your corpse faster.
They'd be locked behind a legacy talent of a higher tier, so something to work towards ultimately unlocking as you progress over several characters.
They couldn't be used while alive, just while dead to reach your corpse slightly faster than running.
That way they don't look unsightly and out of place, because it's well.. a ghost mount, for a ghost to ride on. And they don't clutter the overworld because you only see them while dead.
•
2
u/Vadernoso 9h ago
Because they are in fact, that cool. I don't plan to grind out the 55 points for this bear, mostly because its a bear. But a wolf or a horse maybe.
•
•
6
u/AnimeB00BA 9h ago
If we had drop rates kind of like osrs that could make cosmetics rare it’d be so damn good
2
u/Vadernoso 9h ago
We really can't. Everything in OSRS is repeatable and is solo content. A 1/5000 pet on OSRS is a grind sure, but a 1/5000 drop from a dungeon boss would just mean lucky folk get it. Every item should be reasonably target farmable.
•
u/missingpiece 4h ago
Finish this item: “Reins of the Crimson _______.” Why do people remember it? Because it was rare. And looked badass. Forever should absolutely implement super-rare E-Peen nolife items, it’s fun to see them once in a blue moon
•
u/Moffeman 3h ago
I don’t think you understand how rare the items in osrs actually are or why they work
7
u/aiden2002 9h ago
They should make mounts a transmog type item. That way if you don't like the crazy look of some of them, you'll just never see them. Just keep the racial, class, and more realistic mounts that you earn from quests and such.

Ghost and unrealistic mounts are stupid.
The only one who should have an undead mount is undead

u/Valitar_ 10h ago
Baron Rivendare says hello.
Though, that one's stupidly rare and won't be as easily farmable at 60.
5
u/_BreakingGood_ 9h ago
We did see that it will be in the BMAH, that's one of the examples they gave
4
u/cprxrk 9h ago
…seriously? Rare drops shouldn’t be in the BMAH
•
10
u/DarkPrincessEcsy 9h ago
Isn't that the point of the bmah? To be a gold sink?
4
u/LilJohnDee 9h ago
BMAH should only have items that do not or have not appear(ed) in game anywhere else. Specifically BMAH loot
4
u/BitGalaxy_ 5h ago
I agree. I find it really weird that they'd offer rare mounts there. It dilutes the novelty of seeing people with it
•
u/TechnoTriad 3h ago
Yep it took me about 110 solo runs of strat to get it in classic, quite enjoyed it, guess I won't be doing it in forever.
2
u/Maysonmckey 9h ago
At this rate it’ll be on the black market AH by 2027
5
u/Elleden 7h ago
It already was on the beta.
•
u/Cyphomeris 2h ago edited 2h ago
People successfully ran Stratholme, an end-game level 60 dungeon, with a level cap of 30, enough times in two weeks to drop the mount? This sounds unlikely.
Edit: I just looked up what the hell the black-market AH actually is. I only ever played Vanilla and Classic, so the concept was unfamiliar to me. The only thing that'll happen if they put Deathcharger's Reigns on there is that it'll lose all coolness factor. It's considered cool because it requires a ton of runs and luck. If they do that, given the rarity of the drop, that perception will change to "It's more likely that's a gold-buyer."

u/Prestigious_Lime7450 9h ago

2
u/KupoMoogle93 9h ago
Are we really making the realism argument?
I think you meant that aren't immersive, it's not a realistic game but it needs to fit the world that is established.,7

Seems silly to worry about unrealistic mounts in a game full of faeries, zombies, and shamans who turn into ghost wolves.

Thematic consistency is incredibly important in a fantasy world. And moving away from that, is one of the main reasons why retail is a busy, bloated collectathon mess.
Theres a reason why a dragon mount fits better than a bee.
Remember. It all started with the star pony
•
u/Thyrial 4h ago
And explain to me how a spectral bear isn't thematically consistent?
•
u/LetsGoHome 3h ago
Spectral bear does seem like a bizarre place to fight. There's plenty of spectral animals in wow. There was a spectral tiger in tbc.
-1
u/KupoMoogle93 9h ago
That's not realism, that's immersion.
Things don't have to be realistic to be immersive, WoW isn't realistic whatsoever.6
u/Jakcris10 8h ago
Yeah. In-universe realism, or immersion, or suspension of disbelief. Whatever you want to call it. Consistency matters.
2
u/Billbuckingham 7h ago

u/Denaton_ 9h ago edited 9h ago
For me its not that its a "ghost" bear but that it has a totally different art direction and fidelity..
Edit: The classic color pallet is a lot darker then retail while retail is more pastel colors, they are adding pastel colors into a dark color palette..
4
u/Arbiter-1 9h ago
This seems like the most grounded response I’ve seen regarding this mount. If you don’t like the artwork or the fidelity then cool, but I think the idea of “immersion breaking” is becoming played out. The argument has its place for sure (personal opinion: I hate the newer robotic mounts of retail, it doesn’t scream “fantasy” to me), but I think we need to be more careful about drawing the line at “ghost bear” in a fantasy world with a floating undead ziggurat and a subsurface bug race, both of which have vanilla mounts stylized after them.
10
u/Jakaal80 9h ago
THey like ghost mounts b/c they're cheaper to produce. They don't have to texture them at all since they're transparent.

It continually fascinates me that Retail players call various expansions Vanilla.
Not just TBC and WotLK, I've seen people call Cataclysm "Vanilla", it's baffling. Hell, I've seen someone basing an argument on Legion, six expansions in, being, somehow, Vanilla.
•
u/ScreamHawk 1h ago
If you can't tell the artistic difference between the image you linked and the ghost bear, you're literally part of the problem of why there's an artistic identify crisis in WoW Forever.

u/Sufficient_Grand_549 7h ago
That's a ghost, indeed -- it's slightly bluish and slightly clear...but in retail, these days, "ghost" means blinding electric blue and glowing.
There really isnt any use trying to argue about aesthetic judgments...that ghost cat looks good, the blue bear looks bad. If you think retail things like the bear look good, well...I cant call you wrong, but I don't like the retail aesthetic personally and many seem to feel thr same considering the decline of the retail playerbase.
I mean, you have to ask real questions when the version of your game from 20 years ago is so much more popular than the current one. It's actually crazy and I can't think of anything that compares (other than runescape I suppose).
A lot of people hate the new Pokemon games (and I agree) but they still have way more active players than Pokemon games from 20 years ago I'm fairly certain. (Although that would actually mean Emerald and FRLG which probably are the most popular older versions, & then if you add in everyone playing romhacks of those...well it would be hard to get any accurate number there so nevermind but I think it's still less than current gen releases as bad as they are).
I don't know why, at a corporate level, WoW continues to be left in the same team's hands, when there has not been any forward or upward movement in over a decade aside from rereleasing an older version several times. Maybe behind the scenes they are seeing year over year revenue growth by more effective whale milking every year, but I kinda doubt it.

turning off transmog and store mounts or space mounts is fine and is perfect for classic plus what are you on about nobody wants to see your fortnight transmog or mount. It’s a mmorpg with a specific art style and design pattern.

Is this just a complaint that you don't like ghost mounts generally? Because that is totally fine. If its a "retailafication" thing though, didn't the spectral tiger come out during TBC?
4
u/Detonade 9h ago
Spectral tiger was at least within the classic art direction, and was super duper rare. Insane if you ever saw one. Having retail looking spectral mounts all over the place would really pull away from the game being somewhat grounded
8
u/SiebenZwerg 10h ago
I don't mind retail mounts as long as they ...
- are immersive (fit the race/lore)
- stay true to the classic world / artstyle
- stay decent (not overtuned in features)
2
u/CIeaverBot 9h ago
Tbf, that's... very few of them from a vanilla classic perspective. Mount visuals have gone off the rails since TBC. There are some less intrusive and cool things, like Midnight or the Raven Lord. But Nether Drakes are already quite over the top. Not to speak of Proto Drakes, Mammoths and Frostwyrms that came with WotLK. And since then it has only become bigger and crazier.
1
u/ShoshinTFT 9h ago
That's fair. I've never been overly bothered by whacky mounts (to a point. Truly nonsensical store type shenanigans can sometimes get an eye roll from me) but I can understand the sentiment
1
u/Jakcris10 9h ago
Every mount that doesn’t look like a believable character would ride it in the universe. Erodes the worldbuilding that we all love about classic.

As much as I prefer Blizz to only release mounts that fit with the aesthetic of the game, I think it's an impossible battle because they will want to get money by selling cool cosmetics in the shop.
My pitch for how they can still make money without ruining the game for classic Andys is to make all purchaseable mount cosmetics into transmog appearances you apply to your actual mount.
So people with transmog off would only see real mounts earned in game, and mounts can maintain the feeling of prestige and power they had in vanilla.

yes, but as more and more glowy/ethereal/fiery/sparkly/cool looking gear like that goes in, the more bland and washed out the rest of it looks. Like a rogue looks way less cool draped in a dark cloak when he's standing next to someone who's literally leaking shadows.
