I actually don't mind the new mounts but I am concerned of too many special mounts flooding the game early on. I loved how in the early expansions of wow you pretty much knew all the special mounts and if you saw one you didn't recognize it was pretty rare. In retail, everyone has a different mount, I have no idea what any of them are so none of it really seems special. You need scarcity to make mounts like this feel special. Also please God no store mounts or trading post
Yeah I forgot about that. But with some delusional optimism, maybe it will stop there similar to how classic re-releases included a pre order mount and nothing else added after...
Idk I think this is actually a pretty important point in an MMO. Collection becomes pointless with paid cosmetics. And collection is pretty important in a world that is supposed to last forever
Is this a surprise to anyone? Devs have said no game tokens, no boosts, and no transfers. Shop will be as much of a focus in Forever as it is in retail, possibly more so.
Edit in case the devs read this: For the record, I'll take shop items over tokens and boosts any day of the week, but vanilla-inspired cosmetics would still be my preference over repurposed retail assets that don't fit into the world.
Maybe not. It’s just a shame that it incentivizes dev time to be spent on cash shop bullshit instead of actually improving the game. Kinda the entire reason I stopped playing newer versions of the game lol
They didn't want people like you collecting. They want the folks who are addicted to it, and those players need hundreds or thousands of mounts to chase down (and buy).

I care about the LOTR vibes of the game, and it existed even when there were different Mounts because unique mounts were so rare due to the method of obtaining them and also them being character bound instead of account bound.
Being in a pack of orcs and all riding wolves is badass af, or being in ashenvale as a night elf and seeing a duo or trio of orcs in wolves, or undead in undead horses, badass.
Being in retail and seeing a golden serpent dragon, and a hoverboard, a rideable mecha-head, a purple giant rabbit, a giant butterfly, etc. All in one screen looks like a circus and feels like a headache to look at. So distracting from the rest of the world and looks as strange as spheres in Minecraft because they never fit in.
I really hate the idea of the cash shop in Forever. The best part of Vanilla is that shit dropped. Chasing the ZG tiger and raptor, for example, was a massive chase item because not only were they sick, but they were cross faction. Being undead on a cat was super BIS.
I understand the cash shop is inevitable, but I do feel like mounts should not be part of it. give swipers their HD armor sets for their HD models and leave it there. Let this Dire wolf ghost mount be an incredibly rare drop instead.
Maybe just me but i’ve always had a pet peeve about this running animation. The ghost wolf running animation is so smooth in comparison. These wolves have been ruined for me because they ‘bounce’ like that.

Yo! Quick answer is that this wolf is shiny and people don’t like differentiated mounts that are super flashy in classic. Probably doesn’t seem like a big deal if you are new but the vibe difference between a bunch of people on horses/rams/raptors/wolves is different than everyone being on their own unique glowy/sparkly/flashy random thing they got from the cash shop. If everyone is special, no one is.

Genuinely, the wow sub and this sub are some of the saltiest, most bitter places in all of gaming.
The rest of the community you will interact with in-game will be 90% pleasant and actually enjoy the game. WoW, especially Classic has a knack for absolute chuds to latch onto it and expel their misery through the game.
because a lot of people are bitter and old and trying to cling to the fading shreds of joy they have from their nostalgia of playing WoW 20 years ago. When they dont feel that joy from new content, they have to blame Blizzard instead of admitting to themselves that they dont enjoy the game anymore.
I'm guessing most classic / vanilla players see wow classic as a slower, more grounded experience. These mounts push it more towards extremes (flashy, funny, etc.) which some don't like.
I’ve been playing wow classic and wow retail for quite some time. And I have no idea either. I’ll just chalk it up to redditors being redditors. There were similar mounts. Spectral tiger came out in tbc.
You can tell by the responses who is eager to swipe for shop items. I wouldn't care about these mounts if they were guaranteed locked behind rep grinding, but we know that's unlikely.
Man I really hate whales. They have the worst taste in everything. They have the mind of a 9 year old when it comes to cool factor. Everything in the cash shop is overly cute or neon colored because those motherfuckers are wired like kids
I understood the outrage over the rooster, but this is modeled in a way that does not visually clash with Classic. It’s clearly an old-school wolf model.
I second the top commenter’s opinion that too many special mounts will ruin in-game mounts’ prestige, but I don’t find this specific one to be offensive in its presentation, only in its capacity to trivialize flashy mounts overall.

People are worried about stuff becoming too flashy and distracting. Standing in a capital city in retail has so many giant, flashy, loud mounts and armor that sometimes you can barely tell what you’re looking at. People are just wanting to hold the line against that sort of thing for as long as possible. The wolf does look cool, but how do you acquire this mount? A rare drop/achievement? Or just buy it on the store. Cool until every person has one and now the next mounts will need to look as cool or cooler, and then it just keeps going from there…
The classic audience abandoned all the quality of life and active development of retail because for one reason or another things became overwhelmingly distasteful for them. Classic players would have been happy with normal ass classic release again with maybe a handful of talent tweaks and a promise for more raid tiers after nax. Instead we get what ever forever is turning out to be, so naturally less is more for them
Age of empires 2 is growing constantly. Same game as 20+ years ago, hd textures but same aesthetics. Tons of new content. You can't tell the difference between old and new. That's not the case here at all

Make mounts something you need to work towards, it's a big part of a good mmo.
If they must satisfy the shareholders' greed then raise the subscription. Keep the gameplay good and intact.
There is nothing inherently wrong with these kinds of mounts. If anything they should be on a vendor and used as a gold sink for the economy. Something like 20k gold to buy the spectral wolf mount.
I like spectral mounts but it's far too bright, it sticks out like a sore thumb. They need to tone down the saturation if they want to add things like this to the game.
This was always going to happen. The prestige that came with mounts and pets was always going to go away from classic in forever. Some mounts might still be rare, but gone are the days where most people were just riding the epic race mount.
Classic is not about the art style. They have been so extremely clear about that. They didnt even intend to have SD models, that was a last minute addition because the streamers they had at HQ said it needed that.
Wow forever is going to have mainly modern graphics; its a modern game.
It doesn't exist in Era, it's from the TBC expansion (and was extremely rare since it required a code redemption). No idea what relevance it has to WoW Forever or why they mentioned it.

If people buying silly mounts creates the revenue stream needed to warrant dev and support resources, then giddy up. Other people’s mounts have almost no impact on my game playing experience.

If store mounts or retail-esque mounts are introduced to Forever, I’m just not going to play. I’m excited for Forever if they pull it off, but I’m also not invested enough to where I’m going to reward Blizzard for missing the mark. Bullshit like spectral mounts or cash mounts have no place in the classic world. Bare minimum, my ask would be that turning off transmog also turns these mounts into the race’s standard mount.
theres nothing wrong with these mounts they all have the classic look to them and this isnt classic with no changes if people want that then theres classic, wow forever will not stay the same forever things will change
