He's talking about Thunderfury. Thunderfury is a sword. The only race with a racial affecting sword weapon skill was humans with sword specialization.
Horde never had sword weapon skill anywhere in their racials (barring maybe SoD, which I didn't play)
That person's story doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Especially since in their story they DID get Thunderfury in the end, which means the whole capslock clause is already idiotic.

Yep, way back in the OG timeline I picked UD lock because that's what younger me thought was the coolest. For classic I recreated that character. Sure orc would have been more optimal, but it just simply didn't really matter. And anyways, WotF did end up having quite a few applications in PvE, so it's not like it was a do nothing class pick
6
u/ClassicKrova 9h ago
I dunno, aesthetically I would rather be a Skyborne Druid on horde.
However, giving up Warstomp for PvP seems like such a massive throw, it's crazy. The only thing I would get in return is a slowfall that is useless in 99% of PvP scenarios except rare open world escapes.
3
u/Pilota_kex 7h ago
I prefer the bears... I have to stick to tauren, but after all these years i wanted something new to be honest. But not something so different
3
u/ClassicKrova 7h ago
Honestly, I would overall prefer playing an NE Druid, but all of my friends want to roll horde for PvP, so it funnels into Tauren.
Again it's not even a choice, either I look pretty OR I survive scenarios I normally would have died in.
Best I can make a Tauren look is by finding gear that makes them look kinda scary and demonic. They don't look awful in PvP gear.

You're massively overvaluing War Stomp and undervaluing the glide. War Stomp is DR with Pounce and Bash which is a 30 second CD if you're 11 Feral, so it's often a 1s stun with a .5s cast time. It's basically just a melee range interrupt; very strong and nice to have, but not something you can't live without. Walk on Air meanwhile is extremely useful in both the open world and in BGs. You only need a small hill to use it and it significantly increases your movement speed. Saying it's useless in 99% of PvP scenarios is nonsense and it's obvious that you haven't actually tried it on the beta. Play whichever race you want and stop obsessing over small, meaningless differences.

I'd guess probably around 5% of the active raiding population would describe themselves as 99 parsers. If you can regularly get 95s, you'll be getting a good handful of 99s on individual encounters, if by nothing else than sheer crit rng
22
u/reeferbiscuit 10h ago
It's true that propper racials could bring a 98 to a 99 but it could also bring a 80 up to a 82.

u/OnceMoreAndAgain 4h ago
It's also bizarre to frame people like me as being the unreasonable ones for wanting the racials to be reasonably balanced. Why would anyone be against wanting the racials to be reasonably balanced?
The difference in power level between Orc and Dwarf racials is so egregiously large. It's one thing to have imbalances on your first attempt at the designs, but this is basically Blizzard's third pass at doing "vanilla" WoW racials. There were the original racials from 2004 when the game launched, then the second pass was the initial state of racials when WoW Forever beta launched, and this is now the third draft of racials and yet STILL Dwarf racials suck. It's failure of design imo and I don't get why it's unreasonable to ask for something closer to balanced.

I think most people can, but it seems to be the parsers and min maxers who can't. I thought most of the racials were fine with one or two being a little stronger but obviously not game breaking, but because one is like a fraction of a percent better, it MUST be balanced. Let the game have flavor

Just to be clear... Minmaxers wanting better balanced racials is not them being unable to accept we all enjoy playing the game differently.

You don’t have the min max mindset, and that’s fine. But some people do a free dps increase (or mandatory dps loss depending how you look at it) is a dealbreaker for minmaxers. Like, people grind out random bullshit for even the slightest advantage, why would they not take an objectively superior race if they are planning on min maxing

I want to play a Horde Lock. Now unfortunately, after the nerfs UD looks much worse, Troll berserking doesn't affect channels nor DoTs so that leaves Orc as the only viable option. This isn't just like a 1% difference either, it's quite sizable.
3
u/PinkDolphih 10h ago
It's not sizable in the slightest. What is, however, is Troll's 5% Beastslaying. Blows all other races out of the water if you're fighting a beast.
2
u/Low_Oil_6825 9h ago
True. And if any raids feature a beast boss only trolls would have a real shot at parsing on it.
Is this a desirable outcome?
4
u/JimmytheNice 7h ago
yes, because it's an RPG at its heart - different tools for different problems
those differences in WoW however are meant to be purely _flavourful_ - if they were meant to be actually impactful than people would be picking Orc Warlocks over other Horde Warlocks, which nobody needs
racials are for flavour, the end, you get a teeny tiny boost, but that's it

for affliction the difference would be bigger but for destruction there is no way orc is even 1% better than troll
with 20% base crit, 1k spellpower spamming sbolt for 180s: 2% crit racial is 1.67% DPS and berserking is 0.69%, blood fury is 0.46%
1% crit and blood fury is not going to blow berserking out of the water, it's going to be like a difference of 0.4-0.5%

99 is a pretty wide field, you definitely don't need to pick a race that does 9 more DPS

It’s not about parsing 99. It’s about the chase. It’s about being the best YOU can be.
I play in a softball beer league. I can wear sneakers and play just fine. But, if I wear cleats I do much better. Should I not wear cleats because I’m never going to go pro? No, that’s silly. I want to play the best I can within my capabilities, and wearing cleats is a very easy way to get me closer to that benchmark.
If someone cares about their raid DPS and wants to be the best they can be on their class, they are going to pick the race that is objectively better. Yes, there is room for debate or some flexibility. Orc vs Troll warriors generally, but picking Undead would up straight grief any chance you have of playing your class to its fullest potential.
If you don’t care about that kind of stuff, that’s totally fine, but don’t act like the complaints aren’t justified just because it’s not about something you care about.
6
u/ClassicKrova 9h ago
Yeah, honestly I don't care about DPS. But as a Horde druid my two choices are Tauren and Elves.
Aesthetically I would rather be an elf, but Warstomp -> Roots is such game changer for situations that you would otherwise die in that I just can't imagine not giving myself that crutch on demand.

I think it also really depends on the player, some people are just naturally better in some classes. You can pick the best class and spec and still suck at it because you don't understand the rotation or just can't get in to the rhythm needed. In that case it's definitely more beneficial to play the class you have the most feel for compared to what is 'meta'.
2
u/therob91 9h ago
Do you buy tens of thousands of dollars if equipment and practice every day too? If you want to wear cleats then pick the best race. The problem is these people don't even understand their own complaint. They want a different race for how it looks but also want the best #s. Pick one or leave, there's other games and even other versions of wow for balance. The whole point of non retail wow is to go a different direction than perfect bland balance and skill checks.
The best YOU can be would literally be picking one and maxing what you can control. You guys don't even understand your own complaints lol
3
u/travman064 6h ago
I want to be able to play the race I want for aesthetic reasons, without feeling like im giving up a lot of character power.
So long as blizzard keeps the races within like 0.5% dps for every class, I think that it wont be an issue.
What difference would end up being an issue for you?
Like if the best race did 5% more dps than your favorite, would you still play your favorite? Where would you draw the line?
17
u/ACoolGuy-Promise 8h ago edited 8h ago
This is pedantic as fuck. No he won’t spend 10k on equipment, but he will pick a slightly better shoe (race) when it comes down to it.
You’ve decided that you either go maximum on that spectrum or you’re a hypocrite. Wow super thoughtful take.
Ultimately Blizz should just scrap all dps related racials. There’s plenty of flavor to go around that isn’t “2% crit”, and this whole thing can be avoided.

I think a better metaphor would be "should i buy a $700 pair of cleats or stick with a humble $150 pair thats much more comfortable to me". You can get 80% of the way there with 20% the cost, and if you arent a professional the remaining 20% is out of your reach anyways so youd be wasting your money spending more.
Same goes for wow. Restricting yourself to a specific race because its marginally better than another will never give the average player any measurable improvement, a few percent is a rounding error when theres a dozen things youre doing wrong that are worth tens of percents.
5
u/Nyzan 5h ago
Ehh poor comparison. I'd say it's more like you want to go running as a hobby and you can either buy:
- Regular running shoes.
- Neon brown running shoes with aerodynamically improved lightning bolts that make you 1% faster.
Does the 1% extra speed make up for the ugly appearance? YES if you're Usain Bolt, NO if you're an average Joe. And that's basically what the WoW race discussion is: are you willing to give up the lore/looks/feel/whatever of a race you enjoy to play a race that is s tiny tiny bit more optimal? Hard pass, for me at least. I'd rather play a race I think looks cool.

I'm "99%" sure the actual complaints were about PvP imbalance between racials.
If you actually played the game or read the sub, instead of just shitposting, you'd know that too.
Garbage like OG Gnome Eureka being a mandatory pick for Alliance races for 50% refunds, or Orc being THE choice for any class they can play for Horde (and invalidating Warlocks on top of it).
Those are completely justified critiques in a game that's going to heavily rely on PvP encounters that shape how you experience the world.

homogenizing every race takes away that identity

Parsing is one of the worst things to happen to WoW.
The entire meta of the game would be different and probably more fun and less toxic if the parselords couldn't circlejerk over their spreadsheet.
When clearing the raid, getting the loot, and enjoying the game aren't enough, you gotta go be toxic about parsing to other players and your own groups.

If you're worried about parsing that bad you should just play retail where there's actually some skill. Its like someone talking about their great apm in checkers.

I cleared all vanilla content grey parsing in my PvP meme spec with no world buffs or consumes - it ain't that hard.

Everyone did that in 2005, that's why the game was hard.

u/ThatPerspective1277 9h ago
They did that with computers that had less processing power than a modern wristwatch.

and without 15 years of guides telling them everything they needed to do in each fight.

The more you think about it, the more those overweight tweens start sounding like true heroes of legend.

honestly, kinda.
it's very easy to say Classic was easy when you had extremely detailed guides for every single encounter in the entire expansion before the game even released.
i mean, people were getting loot thinking about 2-3 raids in the future.

u/frostnxn 9h ago
While I agree you dont need orange parses to clear vanilla, if what you say is true, you got carried.

u/romnesia7729 10h ago
I cleared it in the same guild you did. We were both floor pov every fight and got carried.
Good thing we don't care about wasting other people's time

Rag tag group of heroes saving the world. Timeless. I bet your Naxx runs were two nights a week 3 hours a clip though XD. You want people at least 80 parsing in the purple zone lol.

I didnt full clear vanilla as blue parsing warrior because I had too many people like you in the raids.

I mostly care about racials for pvp, thats why i cant play skyborne... its just too useless

u/AggressiveAd69x 10h ago
Yeah I mean if you're choosing to parse, you are not choosing to RP. Sorry bruc

Fun memories of 2019 classic.
Tauren Hunter who parsed 95+ with some 99s along the way.
You can play a non-meta race because it’s fun and it would irk those who chose “better” races when you simply play your class better.

u/chinpotenkai 10h ago
I do parse 99, and honestly? In forever race is not gonna matter for anything but high 99s to 100s

Dwarf Priest, beacause someone always forgets fearward exists, and it's then funniest thing when they do.

That is why I am a happy camper for shadow priest.
We just needed a second look at a few talents (imo more could be done BUT I am not going to get greedy about it) and a tweaking of some spells.
Right now I feel shadow is in an amazing place.
No reason to stack a bunch of them like stacking warriors and mages in classic era, but a reason to bring one or two, AND rotation feels so much better with DP having a lowered CD. (And the talent for it is no longer terrible, 50% chance to have the remainder go onto 2 targets vs 1 target is massive! had gone from a picking it due to nothing better to a pretty darn decent talent!)
If anyone looks at my comment history you can tell I had no confidence that blizzard would be able to do positive changes, and I am 100% happy to be proven wrong.
The changes are strong but not game breaking, does not create reasons to not take other classes over shadow priest, makes the rotation feel better, slight nerfs to some things to balance it all out.
Overall I am stupid happy about shadow priest right now.
I think the last time I was this excited for a release was when Skyrim originally released!

It is not about the parsing it is about bad asymmetric game design. The patch was step in the right direction but still not enough. We need more interesting racials with more flavour that are useful but not OP.

Let's be real though this choice on best race isnt gonna even be a big deal in the first place. We're not getting anything like mythic 20+ key difficulty where everything needs to be played perfectly with the min maxed stats.
You could roll in with whatever as long as the comp is good and probably clear everything without any serious headaches.
If this stuff really bothers you don't waste your time with it, let the min maxers optimize their game how they want because it's how they enjoy it. The rest of us should just pick what we think is gonna be fun.

Isn't parsing relative to your class?
2
u/Shermando 9h ago
Yes, so say there are two players equally skilled and geared. One is a human and one is a undead. The human wins on paper solely because of 2% crit racial. People can legitimately complain this isnt and issue and people can legitimately complain that this is an issue.
The problem is some racials are just flat out better and unless each race gets a unique powerful racial it will never be 'fair'. Does the game need to be 'fair'? No, but to think people don't or shouldn't pick a race because of power behind a racial is short sighted. This is besides the point whether you think you should or shouldn't, at the end of the day it does effect a handful of people who would rather play X race but end up playing Y race because of the slight advantages.
Do I think things are fine as they currently stand? No, because if they did then why did blizzard just do another rebalance of racials?so they clearly see an issue as well. Why they can't seem to fix things better is beyond me though.

and its not even true. Orc warlock is better than ud warlock. Still had 99avg in all raids of classic tho

u/Dhargon1 8h ago
Oohhh nice, this surely won't put salt in their wounds. Pretty sure its because they always low rolled on their crits. Couldn't be anything else

As long as I feel like I pulled my weight I'm generally satisfied. Did well relative to my peers in the group, adjusting for expected outcomes by spec as necessary. I dun need to be best in the world, just shoulder to shoulder with the folks I play with and they are rarely Olympic players.

I equalled an average of 90% parse in half of Siege of Orgrimmar fights (AoE disregarded) in MoP.
Top logged DPS in 2 fights, best for my class in 8 and best for my spec in all but one.
No one reaches 99% parse unless it's strictly single target with 0 downtime or insane luck during the first big burst.

u/BorisHC 7h ago
Just a stupid equivalence.
Imagine the orc racial actually said “you have one additional trinket slot” which is what it is, and the dwarf racial said “you deal 5% extra damage to one in every 100 monsters you fight”
It’s just no where near the same level of balance. Why would anyone want to play a multiplayer game with a huge power disadvantage.

Whenever someone says this to me I always look up my 100 parses. Like ye this shit does matter, and more importantly people WILL pick their race / faction solely based on it.

Id rather be undead priest but dammit if the drakthyr double jump doesnt make life much easier for so many things...

u/tes_befil 6h ago
Is parsing 99 even hard?
I haven't been playing recent expansions but the last time I did hardcore raiding and mythic+ it wasn't very difficult to maintain perfect dps rotations
1
u/radiobottom 6h ago
You play human for the racials
I play dwarf for the facials (beards)
We are not the same

u/Goodlucklol_TC 6h ago
Racials only benefit this much in PVE when competing at the highest level -- world 1st boss kill races. For everyone else theyre literally better off working on their rotation and mechanics than rerolling for a racial that will give them .1% extra dps.

u/dragrimmar 6h ago
almost every solution to the classic andy problem is Hardcore.
unironically.
min/max parsers are annoying and toxic? they pull aggro and rip at level 60.

u/Ok-Security9093 6h ago
I'm a psychopath who wants to play all of the races and classes so I might as well be efficient with it.

Isn't the choice obvious? Pick the sub-optimal race and use it as an excuse for your shitty parses.
