Forever Beta Feedback This community will destroy the game like it did retail
I'm already seeing it, and calling it now.
Blizzard is listening to the community.
Small suggestions that are posted here are implemented.
After every patch that is inspired by the community, there's a horde of man-children that whine and complain about almost anything implemented.
It's up to Blizzard entirely whether they want to preserve the soul of Classic, or bend to these chronically-online children.

I’ll tell you what I was there at the launch of WoW. I lived through the original world, the brutal leveling, the community driven chaos, and I walked away when Cataclysm reshaped everything into something I felt was too diffrent. I’m coming to WoW Forever because Blizzard said, loudly that this project was meant to be a return to the roots. A world built on classic philosophy, long-term progression, slow-burn character identity, and that unmistakable 2004–2006 magic that defined an entire generation of gamers. It Defined me.
They told us this would be the place where the original spirit lives on.
They told us this would be the realm that never moves into retail systems.
They told us this would be the home for players who want the old-school experience preserved, not modernized.
That’s the promise. That’s the pitch. That’s why I’m here. Thats why I paid (But didnt get the beta access sadly).
So if this thing suddenly swerves into retail territory, if the rug gets yanked out from under us because modern day players can’t handle a game that expects you to think, struggle, socialize, and actually live in the world, I’m going to be absolutely PISSED.
I don’t want streamlined. I don’t want convenience creep. I don’t want borrowed power, seasonal resets, or systems stacked on systems until the game collapses under its own weight.
Give me 20 years ago. Every day. For the rest of my gaming life. That’s the experience Blizzard said Forever would deliver. That’s the experience I signed up for. And I’m not here to watch it get diluted into something I already walked away from once.
Im so tired of reading about whiners in this beta. This is not suposed to be retail. End of Story.

Also quit wow for the first time in cataclysm. Started in vanilla and played nonstop until firelands. I was a raider and the mandatory daily quests for firelands turned me off and made me consider quitting the game. I don’t like the game for quests but I loved the dungeons and raids.
13
u/Sufficient_Grand_549 11h ago
Literal vanilla with a new slate of a few dozen scattered quests and new crafting recipes every few months would've been so good lmao. Add a new raid with a few new barely-better BiS, a few fun trinkets and a cool ultra rare special mount every year, or even every 2 or 3, and we would all be pleased as punch.
Completely blowing up vanilla's specs is NOT the right first move, lol...anything that comes after that is unsurprising, cause that tells you the devs do NOT like playing vanilla themselves, and have NO interest in or respect for its original designs and systems that made it #1 then and now.
If you put classic+ in my hands I wouldn't touch talents or spells whatsoever in a million years, lol. After a million, maybe I would buff shaman a bit...but still...the complete hash they instantly made of spells, talents and scaling tells you all you need to know -- these people actually hate vanilla, and every time they fail yo improve on it they hate vanilla more (and classic players too by extension).

u/ummmmmmmmmmmmmyes 11h ago
Vanilla had massive problems. Turtle wow solved a lot of these problems like giving a lot of function to classes such as rogue making their subtlety a support spec that had group effects. And everyone loved it.
All they had to do was copy turtle wow 1 for 1 as a base and everyone would have been happy
→ More replies (1)4
u/2turnt_527 9h ago
Not everyone played turtle wow though, private servers were still niche. So it is possible a broader audience would still complain like this
2
u/thunder_blue 8h ago
I agree, but the issue with a game like that is that it lacks monetization opportunities.
Blizzard is only doing WOWF to monetize it, that is their sole goal.

u/2turnt_527 11h ago
So according to you classic plus is essentially nothing new that actually matters besides quests recipes trinkets or a new mount? Yeah thats not content. What most people besides true classic Andy's want is a game that feels like classic in a classic setting, with more content and some QoL improvements thats receives regular content updates.
7
u/Nj3Fate 8h ago
good self report there. Those suggestions are all things that matter quite a lot. Slow, incremental updates are all the classic community wanted. And if it wasnt for those classic andy's youre shit talking, this game never exists.

the fact that these devs hop onto weekly podcasts with streamers and link their twitter @handles should tell you blizzard is not really capable or interested in just putting their heads down and quietly making a good Classic game
•
u/pingwing 3h ago
They did it for the Forever Launch. It was a surprise to everyone, so they obviously did. This beta is very popular, without any streamer input. They built the base and have their tenents that they hold onto as they are making the game.

You’re spot on. You’re probably not the voice of this subreddit but you should be. This is what people want.
I personally agree with everything you said 100%. I’ve just become so jaded by everything we’ve seen in the past with modern Blizzard and the things we’re continuing to see since the Forever announcement. These people are capable of making good decisions, unfortunately they are not capable of making only good decisions and saying the right things about “pillars” does not translate into actually doing them. I loved Vanilla wow and I loved reliving it in 2019 classic but I’ve seen too much that I just know I’m getting set up for disappointment with this new iteration. I really hope I’m wrong.

> Give me 20 years ago. Every day. For the rest of my gaming life
Why not just play era then? Legacy system is pure convenience creep, they're communicating right out of the gate that changes will be made. Players can choose to not need vendor items anymore for class abilities, why is that not already over the line for you? It's not supposed to be retail, but it's also not supposed to be Era.

"suddenly swerves into retail territory"
lmfao bro, open your eyes. we have retail models, retail ass race, transmog, barbershop, and dual spec (fight me)
it's already retail. it is deeply retail. any one of these would have been an absolute dealbreaker in 2019. hell, in 2024
→ More replies (3)6
u/TacoTaconoMi 8h ago
I really don't understand why they are going this direction. Classic players asked for classic plus in the same vein as OSRS. New content, updating old content that wasn't complete, fixing meme specs so you don't end up stacking 2 dps classes in half the raid etc.
They are trying a hybrid style to attract retail players, but retail players won't stick with this because it lacks the infinite end game loop of m+, 4 raid difficulties, and the collectathon carousel of pets, mounts, and mogs. Every patch you start the grind all over again to gain 30 ilvl to feed the monkey brain of number go up. Which is what forever won't include (supposedly)
Eventually the game will be left with classic players stuck with a retail game with a classic mask on top, realizing that the game was half made for a different audience. What will those players do then?

We actually need to be restrained from being able to run a dungeon a few times with the boys for leveling. There's clearly no other way to stop spell cleaves (already nerfed) /s

Yeah, wow subreddits are a cesspool of all that is wrong about the game. Basement dwellers that think know better than developers and are in reality the most pretentious and hateful kind of person.
13
u/Texatonova 14h ago
Although I agree for most things, there a few that I think we can give merit to. For instance, the layering feedback and the Devs listening to streamers to buff Mages. I think bitching is valid on those topics. Besides, where else would people bitch other than on forums? It's what social media is made for lol.
7
u/Dystopic23 13h ago
This is certainly an outlet for gripes and concerns, but most of the other content is drowned out by endless complaints and people karma farming

you are crazy if you think there aren't people who do know the game better than the devs, especially when you just generalize the devs into one monolithic entity, where you have people who thought the outlaw sabre was some sort of shit they had to nerf because it was too OP. you have people who have been playing vanilla wow and its iterations for decades, meanwhile their lead dev had to brag on twitter about how he actually PLAYS the game.

u/TheSiegmeyerCatalyst 11h ago
Having a lot of game knowledge does not make one a good game designer or developer.
Being a good game designer or developer does not require total knowledge and understanding of all game mechanics.
An individual redditor may know more than the devs and have better ideas, but cannot design and develop the entire game themselves.
An individual redditor may know more than the devs and have better ideas, but on average will produce worse output than a dedicated team, which benefits from a greater diversity of ideas and experience.
If games could be perfected by individual redditors providing their highly informed opinions on design and development, we would have seen it happen by now.

It's not the community's fault that the developers are weak. Every gaming community screams and cries about something, however what separates a good game from a bad game is how willing the dev is to cave to cry babies who shouldn't even be playing the game in the first place. Facepunch, aka Rust devs are an example of a good game. Funcom, aka Dune devs are an example of a good game becoming a bad game due to weak devs.

u/liverlondon 13h ago
Right exactly can you imagine if Chris Wilson has just gave in to all the shite on Reddit, or even Mark and Johnathan. Poe would be absolutely shite instead it's bis arpg. Wow devs have no vision and so listen to the crap on here constantly and streamers.
11
u/Foamie 12h ago
Chris Wilson would have never even entertained async trade, Mark and Johnathon put it in like immediately (making the game much better).
7
u/01spirit 12h ago
I love Chris Wilson, top 5 game dev of all time. Maybe even the GOAT. I was on his side about trade, but have to admit it's definitely better now. He's still the GOAT to me though
3
u/Foamie 11h ago
Yea not trying to downplay his work, just that the game kind of evolved away from his original vision over time. Some of his core tenets that remain in the game though (no bound items for example) are actually genius because it allows your character to constantly progress doing anything.
10
u/glormosh 13h ago
Blizzard is making their bed on this one. They're taking the strategy of double speak, buzzwords, and pandering. The entire Horizontal Progression has nothing meaningfully to do with items or playstyle was a crazy misinformation campaign on their part.

I generally agree, no game is perfect. Everybody is looking towards those first raid drops to solidify ‘the vision’
Lots of pressure
6
u/chapman0041 13h ago
Like you say, it’s on blizzard to make good decisions.
They’ve struggled, across all their IPs, to maintain their vision alongside player demands.
It is hard to do well. It will probably make or break the game long term.
This sub is intensely dramatic, but if player feedback kills the game, that’s blizzards fault. Nobody else.
17
u/AquaMoonlight 14h ago
Their biggest mistake is listening to this subreddit and the streamers.
10
u/sogghee 14h ago
They need to listen. They just also need to have good judgement. It would be just as much of a mistake to ignore their playerbase as it would be to give them the reigns.
→ More replies (12)2
u/TheSiegmeyerCatalyst 11h ago
Just because a streamer says something doesn't mean it's good.
It also doesn't mean it's bad.
Sometimes they'll make a change that aligns with a streamer's opinion. Most of the time they won't.
As long as they take feedback from everyone as equitably as they can and devise their own solutions instead of just implementing what any one streamer or commenter recommends, regardless of popularity or followers or up votes, we should be alright.
They're holding some important lines so far. I'm not happy with every change, but I've got some faith.
2
•
u/Vio94 1h ago
Who else are they gonna listen to? Posts on the official forums which is even worse than this sub?
They should be listening to all sources of feedback, the key is to have a focused design goal and not getting dragged around like they've fallen off a horse and gotten their foot caught in the stirrup.
15
5
u/Enough-Row-5346 12h ago
Nah, it's streamers and more importantly, devs that will destroy it. As you pointed out, it's up to Blizzard.
Shit dude, they made up a new race instead of just doing high elves or blood elves right out the gate, mixing art designs from the start. The criticisms are valid. And the vision seems muddy.
And retail has become the worst timeline I could possibly imagine for WoW. It's like the actual opposite of badass and the tone screams teenager vibes. And that's not the community's fault.
Still excited. I'll be satisfied until GW3 comes out. By then we'll know if the game is heading in a terrible direction.

u/PokePurist 14h ago
I know this is asking a lot, but I think we could all benefit from just playing the game.

Every patch, people go up in arms as though that'll be the way things are forever.
It's not how it'll be for raids. It won't be how it is for launch. It won't even be how it is for next week's patch.
Retail FOTM mentality has gotta take a chill pill.
12
u/These_Appointment594 14h ago
Dumbass parroted take. You really think the main issue with the people who said "You think you do, but you don't" and "Do you guys not have phones?" is that they care about community feedback too much? Really?
Blizzard ruined the game by optimizing for retention metrics and profit. Streamlined leveling, lfr, lfd, dailies/weeklies and the million other papercuts that turned vanilla into retail were not community suggestions. They were decisions made with the sole intention of getting people to log in every day, keep their sub active, and spend money in the cash shop.

5

Oh dear sir... blizzard is perfectly capable of destroying itself without our help. Nobody asked for one-button auto rotations, for example. No player said, "lets put a popular character in a floating wheel chair!"
You vastly overestimate this reddits powers to destroy the franchise blizzard was already busy destroying.
14
u/tes_befil 14h ago
Blizzard loves to listen to voices of people who don't even play the game. Classic/forever is plagued by retail enjoyers coming and complaining about classic systems and art. The classic community just wants the classic design to be kept and upheld.
Retail listened and the game became only for ultra casuals and sweats. The leveling, the world, the writing and character design, all pandered to people who don't play much and are very much casuals. Then the endgame went the opposite route and progressively became a sweat only activity.

The problem is not so much that the community, be it reddit, streamers, etc. are vocal. The issue that the devs listen and respond with poor changes. It's like the whole itemization issue. Beta was capped at 20. Everyone was farming dungeons endlessly then complained they had too many blue items. I mean, they were basically twinks at that point. So the devs respond by nerfing everything in to the ground. Now this, itself, would not be a huge issue had they not changed all the abilities and spells to be much weaker than vanilla/classic. But items were needed to bring power levels back to vanilla/classic levels. Basically they used a hammer instead of a scalpel, as I saw one redditor mention recently. The devs need to stick to their plan for the game and not make kneejerk reactions. Like the gear was probably fine for the most part as normal play, most people would only have a very few items from the dungeons. I'm sure there were a few items and such that needed to be toned down, but some long quest chains that took a huge amount of time had their rewards changed from blue items to useless greens.

u/Due_Pace_7979 13h ago

Studios ruin their own games. I agree with you, and the community should quit crying constantly. It's embarrassing to see the modern gaming community, at least the part.that lives on reddit. A good game would enforce copyright or something to keep YouTube out of their game completely. Instead everyone wants free beta testers and max profit by trying to make a game for "everyone"

Funny how it’s not the fault of literally the people who make the game when the game turns out to be disliked.
The devs should have a vision for the game they want to make, the players don’t need to have that
1
u/shafty17 12h ago
Blizz listening to the community on every little thing is also part of the problem. Devs should stick to their internal vision instead of constantly caving every time a streamer whines about something

Wait people really think it’s retail players causing all of these changes? I feel like half of the balancing and racial problems are caused by classic players and streamers that don’t play retail.

The devs should put together a panel of long time and established players from diferente types of guild - and get off Reddit

I would much rather people on the subreddit pitch about the GAME then about each others mindset.
If the game is complained about we can have a discussion about the issue and see how many agree/disagree and have discourse
Just whining and making fun of others for their opinions and wanting to share them is pathetic

They don’t even realize that this is a different game, "Classic+" doesn’t mean a carbon copy of the 2004 version tailored to their personal wishes. I hope the developers stop listening to the players and spend the last couple of weeks working on the game themselves.

You are seriously blaming a bunch of people on an internet forum who give their opinions instead of blaming the actual development team that is employed by the company making the product. If they are listening to a bunch of man children that whine and complain about almost anything as you describe it, then that's still their fault. No one is forcing them to do that.
Maybe if they had good judgment and could make decisions in the first place without requiring and depending on the consultation of streamers and the community, then maybe they'd be in a better place. Either way, placing the blame on the community is just wrong.

“This community” destroyed its own game, Classic, with shitty attitudes unbecoming to building a community.
Retail players continued playing our own shitty game thank you very much.

Every change so far has been decent imo, it just shows they have no vision when they release dogs hit, it isn't liked, and they just roll over and do what we want.
So far they haven't been listening to idiots and the current patch is the best one so far 👌

Blizzard doesn't listen: "Blizzard doesn't listen to its community, it's doomed!"
Blizzard listens and implements what fits their pillars: "Blizzard will do whatever the community wants, it's doomed!"
Blizzard isn't the problem.

I just wish everyone would stop complaining and just enjoy playing the game. Let the questers quest, the pvpers pvp, the people who want to tournament do the tourney. Its all good for the game as long as people are playing and having fun. Lets stop complaining about things and just enjoy it

Yep retail is definitely destroyed with more than double the classic player count. Maybe time to grow up and realize graphics and game design aren’t the same as 2004.

Retail is fine, the community exists its just people dont talk while running down a road anymore.
Classic however literally dies every time a new server opens up because of literal destroying of the community

just tried retail after a long break.. and am devastated to see what its become. i can roll my face on the keyboard and kill anything with no fear of dying at all at lvl 1. Theres absolutely no challenge at all during NORMAL gameplay. why did the game get so forgetable at the early levels?

The only issue i foresee is the min maxing. Given enough time the wow community optimizes the fun out of every iteration of wow

The devs are in precarious position. They have to hype up the game, therefore they deal with streamers who have vast following, and they care about not upsetting some rabid crowd and create a pr shitstorm. From another angle, Activision blizzard wants them to push out the content fast, cheap, now, and prioritize cash shop items, preferably make them glowing, sparkly, w/e. If they get any extra time to try and make Forever changes true to the classic vibe, that would be an extracurricular effort.

Mages can ice lance you into the ground just except it and roll with it ..

I haven’t stayed fully up to date. What changes did they make after people complained?

I’ve stopped huffing the copium and came to terms that blizz can only make games for John Normie now. The same John Normie that had allowed retail wow to turn into whatever abomination it is today when it got popular with the normies during wotlk.
Us neckbeards had p servers to fall back to for a classic + experience but we can’t even have that anymore.

As the great Chris Wilson says: players are great at telling you whats wrong but shit at telling you how to fix it.
Players are very rarely game devs themselves. You can't blame the players for Blizzard choosing bad player ideas to implement.

100%, these games games only work when made by devs with a strong vision. Blizzard just made original WoW on their own and it was great on release and got gradually worse as they responded to feedback. Even when you replay classic WoW it peaks around BWL.

u/Whiteshovel66 3h ago
I feel the same way but about the classic community tbh. Nonstop dooming on top of their weird racism and parse culture stuff is super concerning to me.
•
u/KirbySuck0021 3h ago
i mean reddit and other sources say so much, you're better off finding a virgin in a frat house than an idea for a game that hasn't been said.
•
u/gkenderd 2h ago
Why can't people just accept that this is an independent game deserving of it's own criticism and praise without having it have to be "Classic+" or "Retali-" debate all the time. It's just so mindnumbingly boring debate.

u/Master_smasher 2h ago
aren't they implementing feedback that favors heavily on the classic side of things? i'm confused with the continued dooming...
•
u/NTufnel11 2h ago
Honestly the hysterical complaining is absolutely out of control right now. Endless posts about how some 0.3% damage reduction on a racial make it completely unplayable.
Classes only got moderate buffs and not total overhauls based on the echo chamber of negativity and bullshit they’ve convinced themselves is reality, so they’re dead on arrival.
It’s genuinely insane

u/OrwellTheInfinite 2h ago
I desperately want blizzard to ignore reddit/forums and most importantly streamers.
•
u/Thrillawill 1h ago
This game was cooked the second it had Layering, Transmog, Blue Elves, and retail assets.
You guys will be raid logging by January 1st and complaining. Wait until they add boosts. You guys haven’t seen anything yet. Oh wait, you have. This is Activision.

“Chronically online children.” The irony of the OP really is breathtaking isn’t it?

u/Nakedninja21 1h ago
No the community from what I’ve seen are asking for things to make it better but they keep listenring to the streamers and no lifers. Dungeon xp is still god awful. They made a lot of the gear worse. And they keep nerfing the only fun parts of classes.

You're right, it is up to Blizzard. Every community is going to complain. Sometimes it will be good and constructive feedback, sometimes it will be blind rage. Just because they make changes that seem rooted in that feedback doesn't mean they're blindly implementing whatever the "man-children" ask for. It's up to them to be game developers, filter the noise, figure out what the real problems are, and fix them in the right way.
I've seen more positive sentiment for Blizzard since the Forever announcement than I've seen in a VERY long time. Until proven otherwise, I have to assume that they're working very hard to hang onto that. There will be mistakes along the way but I'm really hopeful that they can keep the momentum going.
