Forever Forever Feels more like a SOD2 experimental rather than a refined product which is ready for release.

As someone who has been waiting so long for classic+ I'm honestly genuinely concerned for WOWF and its future.

The whole beta has felt more like a Season of Discovery type experiment where they are still chucking a lot of stuff at the wall to see what sticks, weeks before release. Typically in a beta you'd expect the game to be finished and the team would be at the bug fixing stage alongside minor changes.

We haven't even got to level 31+ content yet!

Then we have the conflicting statements at Blizzcon, versus what they are actually implementing.

1) The classic art style is supposed to be preserved, yet much of the new content they are adding is of retail art style, dropped into the classic art style world.

2) The social experience is one of their pillars, yet they've added mega servers and a completely bust layering system that is completely counter to this.

3) They've added a race that nobodies heard of, or asked for that looks like it's straight out of retail instead of adding classic lore friendly races.

4) Horizontal progression, as repeatedly mentioned at Blizzcon, is in fact not in the game. There is horizontal type content, but character progression is vertical as it is in all other wow versions. So how will our characters and their progress stay relevant with "forever" power creep?

5) Datamined stuff coming out is looking increasingly retail.

Honestly I really hope it's good, but I'm worried that in 6-12 months this game isn't going to look anything like classic+, but instead more like a retail mix up.

I’ve been playing WoW since 2006. My experience on the beta is that WoW Forever is like wow classic but bigger and better. Maybe I’m an outlier that when they release a new WoW I’m able to try different things and figure out what’s the most fun for me. If somethings not fun in the game I just don’t do it? It’s that easy.

u/Old-Tie8770 15h ago

Jeesh you’re dangerously close to sounding like a functional adult

12

u/mccsnackin 15h ago

That’s the nicest thing someone on reddit has ever said to me.

This guy admited he hasn't play vanilla but he played Shadowlands, Warlods of Draenor, Midnight for fun.

Do whatever you want with this information.

2

u/Old-Tie8770 7h ago

Wait are you serious? This guy plays games…for fun!?!?!?

1

u/NorthKoreanKnuckles 7h ago

1

u/Old-Tie8770 7h ago

This is why I tend not to tell people I play classic wow lol

1

u/NorthKoreanKnuckles 7h ago

I post a picture of a casino, and you think of classic? really? That's the first thing that come to your mind?

1

u/stinkybobo123 6h ago

are you implying that casinos have something to do with retail?

1

u/NorthKoreanKnuckles 6h ago

At this point I don't even know what to tell you...

1

u/mccsnackin 7h ago

I did play vanilla but I didn’t reach 60 until BC was out. I did not play WoD or Midnight.

1

u/NorthKoreanKnuckles 6h ago edited 6h ago

I think Forever is just carried by Classic mechanics and the hype around new talent/dungeon/item that will fade after 2 months because they can not technically produce enough content to feed our expectations.

That hype will go down fast if blizzard can not keep up the releases.

And I'm not even talking about the bad stuff like: the layers, 1 dungeon policy, the experimentation on rank/spell damage that hasn't been thought well, the 29€ race that nobody wanted, the retails assets copy pasted, the bots, the in game shop, the 60€ beta.

Forever will be fun, for sure. But there is a reason why they opted for one ultra server that can shrink at will according the number of players.

They know, we know, everybody knows, we just collectivly play a game of pretend. Because we got hope. We want to believe this time it will be different.

u/BebopHQ 14h ago

This is my take as well, I think the community has slipped from giving constructive criticism to just fielding complaints at this point.

Idgaf honestly , just here for the ride. So many small tweaks open up really cool things. But again, I’m just here for the ride baby and I’m strapped the fuck in dood

13

u/Grand-Loquat-6434 16h ago

Agreed. I have no idea what they were even testing in SOD if these are some of the class changes they’re making. Like were the takeaways for shaman that they need to be terrible?

15

u/RditAcnt 15h ago

If you think forever is sod 2.0 you never played sod.

8

u/Aviation1980 16h ago

I’ll take this journey knowing it’s not a seasonal thing. Sometimes is wonderful not knowing what to expect next.

108

u/adamcamefirst 16h ago

Same doomer shit on repeat. There is literally nothing they could do that would make you happy. The majority of players dont want to play classic again we want qol and new shit and we dont give a shit if art style is a little modernized. You are ruining the game for yourself. Its a video game sit back and enjoy it. Its never going to be 100% what you want. Get over it.

6

u/Turbulent-Leading-34 15h ago

As I believe, graphics can make a good game great but can’t make a bad game good. All these babies are upset about some graphics instead of discussing core gameplay systems and mechanics. Graphics in wow are the least of my concern

6

u/The_Johan 15h ago

Get this to the top of every single one of these whiny “not classic” posts

1

u/bterrik 14h ago

I actually think the SD toggle was a mistake. What the game needs is vision and commitment on the part of Blizzard. If that’s SD models, fine. If that’s HD models, fine. But pick what the game is, and build it. And ofc, Classic art style didn’t have to mean low poly - you could absolutely be committed to the style but do it in a high res way.

And yeah. I’m ready to just unsub for a few weeks - the patch notes had me doomering over Dwarf Shaman which I want to play…and why? Because a beta balance patch looks a touch iffy? Honestly. People are far too confident based on what very little information we have.

I actually wish Blizz would keep communication with the player base in more general terms - how are things feeling, what’s the design intent, what are they working on to advance that intent, etc., and not be as forthcoming with all this detail. The whole doomerism in the beta has been magnified by a ton of extra information that we don’t have proper context for.

-1

u/evangelism2 14h ago

What? It's never going to be 100% what we want, but tell what parts of the OP are actually wrong.
I don't think anybody wants retail art style. I don't think anybody wants races that nobody's heard of. There's a number of things here that nobody in the classic community wants. It's not some split 50/50 thing like transmog. These are just objectively bad decisions that show how out of touch Blizzard is. And for what it's worth, I realized yesterday the main reason it finally clicked in my head that I'm not hyped about WoW forever is the mega servers. Server identity, knowing people, and seeing consistent names, faces, and guilds are such a core part of vanilla WoW that the fact that that's completely gone now because of mega servers just kills one of the most important parts of the game to me. Mega servers are a huge misstep.
But please stick your head in the sand and continue to suck Blizzard's dick because they absolutely have the track record that proves that they're going to handle this correctly. It's really cool that they killed amazing servers like Turtle WoW so that they could put out their bullshit product that's almost guaranteed to be a fuck-up.

Dudes speaking truth. I bet so many of these people are miserable to be around. The people you get tickets to a movie for and they whine the whole time. Same energy.

-2

u/Finanzweezy 14h ago

You’ve just ignored everything he said, they said they were going to keep the game the same vein of classic and they aren’t so he’s complaining? He’s completely valid, you can disagree but his argument is valid, how is some shiny purple Druid form fitting of classic at all? It isn’t and that’s not gunna stop me from playing but to me that’s definitely blizzard doing the things they said they weren’t going to do

0

u/Luquatic 14h ago

HD or SD but the art style has to be coherent. Having retail assets will look jarring and can easily snowball into a very immersive breaking thing.

u/Kamanop 16h ago

You definitely have a point. The class and race changes feel like someone rolled a dice, very odd this close to release.

But what is even more worrying to me is the fact that they still didn’t come up with layering system that works.

12

u/Important-Dirt1230 16h ago

The amount of bugs that occur with each new patch genuinely amazes me

14

u/Yo_fresh_it_is_Me 16h ago

i’m having a blast so far and I really like the game. It is the beta and this is the type of game that they will continuously tweak throughout the years man. Forever, balancing and adjusting and adding to it the game is alive as much as we are.

21

u/ha1rcuttomorrow 16h ago

Bro.... I'm so fucking tired of these posts

3

u/tinyElliss 16h ago

Im tired, boss.

13

u/Latter_Associate8866 15h ago

Agree, such drastic changes as the ones they been rolling out on the beta should not be happening mere weeks before release.

Game is rushed, imagine the amount of drastic changes they’ll be rolling out once people start reaching level 50+, completed specs, professions, endgame dungeons, etc

u/ExoticPair 16h ago

I think they are trying to make it appealing to everyone. Im worried that its not going to be anyones favorite version of wow.

Retail players will get bored of the simple rotations and easy mechanics.

Classic players will lose interest because its not the game they hoped for and doesnt "feel" like classic.

It will be really popular for the first few months to a year. But Im really worried about forevers staying power.

1

u/MountainMeringue3655 13h ago

That's the problem many developers face. If you try to reach the largest audience possible (which equals big money, most important for Blizzard), game design usually suffers from it.

1

u/TheClassicAndyDev 15h ago

A game for everyone is a game for no one.

1

u/inqvisitor_lime 14h ago

Wow is the most casual movie since 2004

-2

u/No_Luck_621 15h ago

You guys need to go rot on era. Forever is what many of us wanted. Ive done 10 plus hwl and 3 scarab lords. Your casual opinions are meaningless.

2

u/FierceBruunhilda 11h ago

stfu classic players can want more of what we all loved about classic. thats what classic + was supposed to be. more classic. you can go to the "for everyone" retail and have your garbage version of wow where you can play solitaire and dressup and never have to leave the wow client to play another game.

"Typically in a beta you'd expect the game to be finished and the team would be at the bug fixing stage alongside minor changes." lol

4

u/Euphoric_Peak_3914 15h ago

They're right. The game is in an extremely unpolished state right now.

2

u/law7777777777 14h ago

Ppl have been playing this game since 2004. At this point they are willing to pay for anything that has wow name attached to it, no matter how bad it is

1

u/SSC20232688 16h ago

These people are genuinely rubbing their last 2 brains cells together and they are fighting for 2nd place

3

u/tinyElliss 16h ago

I blame all those games who pushed Alpha and pre-alpha on ppl with content that used to be Beta, so when they finally get to what Beta used to be, they think its something else.

2

u/PhoenixQueen_Azula 14h ago

But the game releases in weeks. This isnt a “beta” where they have time to take all the feedback and iterate and do multiple more tests and rounds of fixes and changes. This is very close to what the released version will be

I blame all those games who push release with unfinished content that used to be beta or even alpha, so when they finally get to what beta used to be, they’re okay accepting that as the “finished product”

2

u/Nessarra 13h ago

You're both right. Alpha and beta phases are just getting blended together.

1

u/SSC20232688 10h ago

I agree also. But if you think a live service mmo is anything but unfinished, I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.

This is how every MMO has been. It's starts off and as more and more people play, they balance.

•

u/Protip19 2h ago

Why is it always the Blizzard defenders that start throwing insults and namecalling? What upsets you so badly about the fact that some of us have reservations about the game and Blizzard's handling of it.

6

u/Polamidone 15h ago

I have never heard more complaining about a beta, the game and anything else than here. I just play it when it comes out without any weird expectations and just play the game how it is. If it’s fun I play it some more, if not then I don’t play it any longer. And I understand that they didn’t make the game specifically for me or my thoughts on how this should work and play. I get that blizzard dropped the ball on a lot of things but this is just getting ridiculous

11

u/Ok-Calligrapher-4504 16h ago

Agree. It feels like Blizzard is looking at this reddit for answers, not realising that there will always be people disliking a thing. They should know what demographic they are going for and have a vision for what the game should be.

It's going all over the place rn, homogenizing racials but still saying they want it to feel impactful, keeping the world in SD and adding HD models etc.

It doesn't have to be made for me but please know who you're making it for.

I will ofc still play it but i'm worried about this lack of vision.

•

u/Protip19 2h ago

Gonna buy myself an army of updoot bots so I can effectively join the dev team.

-1

u/Gregardless 16h ago

And if they're open to player feedback, as it seems they are. Why the fuck won't they just copy Jagex's homework and let us vote before making all these changes?

1

u/Raptor_Jetpack 13h ago

Why the fuck won't they just copy Jagex's homework and let us vote before making all these changes?

if they do that this game will have flying mounts and LFD and boosts and a cash shop day 2

If you want a complete and refined game, we’d be waiting until 2028 for release. Let’s enjoy the parody and journey lads.

6

u/Maleficent-Egg6861 16h ago

I would have liked SoD 2. Miss all the new tanks and healers.

Still hopeful for Forever as they are actively communicating and adjusting things, even if some stuff still needs overhauling.

8

u/Useful-Sandwich-7004 16h ago

I completely agree, the nerfs/buffs/changes are whiplashing back and forth like crazy for a game that is 2 weeks away from release. I get the balancing will occur, but fundamental principles of the game seem to not be ironed out, is it going to turn into pixar art style or are we doing classic bc the data mined stuff is a disaster. I know there are a lot of basement dwellers that NEED something in their life of meaning and they are going to act like everything is great, but I think this is going to be a rocky road.

1

u/Nac_Lac 8h ago

Nerfs/buffs/changes are part of active game development. You are witness something that you've likely not seen in WoW before. This is par for the course for someone who played Vanilla, where classes were continually tweaked from Beta all the way to launch of TBC.

Vanilla was never "done" in development. No game that is being actively worked on, is.

1

u/Useful-Sandwich-7004 7h ago

Ypu are missing the point. I say that part is normal. Having a turtle mount is not.

1

u/Nac_Lac 7h ago

A turtle mount won't be ironed out in several months.

8

u/PablosCocaineHippo 16h ago

Im gonna hold off playing for few months and then see how the game is. Don't got high hopes tbh.

With all these drastisch beta changes.. its pretty clear they don't fully know what they are doing.

5

u/Former-Store-695 15h ago

I’d say changes aren’t that drastic, they are more in the “people pleaser” category. Which is actually more worrying, considering which people they are trying to please

14

u/Cmackdee 16h ago

Sure you will, bud. I’ll see you on release.

→ More replies (3)

5

u/TimewarpingSeaTurtle 16h ago

It’s almost like a beta exists to try shit out and see if it works

11

u/Jasonius 16h ago

Not when the game launches in half a month...

1

u/BellTollForYou 15h ago

I understand the concern, but just to my own hopium: when vanilla released in 04 you think it was a balanced, finished product that received no changes?

In terms of balance, vanilla was one of the worst iterations of wow. Classes did 300% more damage in PvE content than other classes. We just didn’t have the analytics to min max like we do today.

My hopium is that this isn’t a solved, completed game. It will continue to receive balance updates (like retail), meaning things that are broken or “bad” don’t need to stay that way. With classic, they mostly did. With forever, they hopefully won’t.

2

u/Laredon 14h ago

Almost like it was the developers first MMORPG in a very different landscape. They should have a tiny bit of experience and data by now.

2

u/PablosCocaineHippo 16h ago

Normally a beta is for hype, bugfixing and server stability. Not drastic changes like class abilities, racials etc.

Ah well, the 'its just a beta bro' people always learn on release lol

5

u/hedgemagus 15h ago

A beta is not for hype lol. This game didn’t need hype 5 seconds into its cinematic trailer. They are 100% intentionally doing exaggerated changes to find what works

1

u/No_Luck_621 15h ago

Thats…..exactly what a beta is

-1

u/Crafty-Call 15h ago

Most betas don’t have a 100k$ streamer tourney with every streamer and their goons crying to blizzard about what’s OP and not at lvl 30. Blizzard is at fault for catering to this stupid fucking tournament that feels it’s sucked the life out of a game before it’s even launched.

1

u/boomkinenjoyer 14h ago

You live in a strange world where the streamers are coming to get you

→ More replies (2)

4

u/OkConServe 16h ago

A beta a month and a half before release is as much of a hype generator as it is for “testing”. Haven’t we learned that already?

1

u/Valuable_Berry_8626 12h ago

Not a 1 month beta before release 🤣 that should be strictly for ensuring that their shit works and to build hype for the product.

They are making massive changes to the systems and classes. A project this size should in no way be this damn unfinished a few weeks before release.

1

u/TimewarpingSeaTurtle 12h ago

It is finished. But they maintain the liberty to make whatever changes they want whenever they want. Which is how it’s always been with WoW.

1

u/Valuable_Berry_8626 12h ago

They waived that liberty at Blizzcon with their promises about pillars and design philosophy.

1

u/throw81727171 11h ago

It's almost like they had 2 years of SoD to see "what sticks"

1

u/humanfromjupiter 10h ago

I thought that's what sod was for

1

u/TimewarpingSeaTurtle 9h ago

You thought wrong

4

u/Heccer 15h ago

I wouldn't mind if they postpone the release until February for example. They are on the right path but it feels like a very rushed release. This will create problems that are hard to solve in a live version and they will just snowball out of control

3

u/TheLastofIsh 15h ago

Agreed.. even the beta phase seems absolutely rushed and if there’s so much balancing issues and fixes taking place weekly, on top of bugs/sharding issues, release is not looking very smooth. It’s like Blizz were told they need a major Q4 release and they’re trying to pump Forever out no matter the state. I know it was originally supposed to be a labor of love but the cracks are really starting to show..

3

u/No_Luck_621 15h ago

Thats how games work. Its a live ops game. This is going to happen in forever. Did you guys think they wouldn’t balance classes? How would they have even known some of this without testing? You guys are just weird and know nothing about deving.

1

u/Valuable_Berry_8626 12h ago

The game is filled with assets that literally float in the air, incorrect movement animations, wrong armour sets and 5 million bugs. No product is supposed to be released in a completely half assed state just because it can be fixed later.

Theyre acting like an indie studio that desperately needs the cash to continue development and is willing to deliver a shit product to ensure that.

1

u/Nac_Lac 8h ago

Forever is a passion project that finally got a suit's attention on a whim.

Why did they not anticipate the crush on the server when the Beta opened? Because the higher ups at Blizzard didn't think this would be much of anything.

So yeah, they probably do need to push it out as fast as possible otherwise the suits will cut funding for the Forever team.

You are forgetting that despite the big company, Blizzard is not a monolith and does not throw cash at projects equally. The Forever team works on Forever and has a budget decided by the company. Assuming that the suits want this to succeed at all costs and will dump cash on it is incredible naive.

No, they don't have time to fix everything because this would wither on the vine if they did.

So they are doing what they can, with what they have. Frankly, I'm impressed they got as much done as they did before having to release it.

1

u/ISmellLikeAss 15h ago

Smart since 90% of these streamers will quit by than also and chase there next content fix.

1

u/Ais3 15h ago

u/nykezztv 16h ago edited 15h ago

1

u/Morphose 15h ago

this. I do not see any difference between this and sod. Balance tweaks, new abilities, a few new pve areas. What is new? professions? race/class combos?

4

u/Nesqu 16h ago

Yeah, this game needs to cook a while longer. We're 2 weeks from global release and we have no clear vision what the game wants to be because it swings so wildly week to week.

Not to mention all the bugs that are gonna pop up 31+...

3

u/dandiestpoof 15h ago

2

u/boomkinenjoyer 14h ago

Im skeptical as well as the old blizzard is long gone and the new blizzard is basically a mobile game studio.

2

u/Press1ForFeed 16h ago

This shit is not SOD 2. Please do not insult SOD like that. There was much more added to classes/leveling then what we have currently seen in forever

2

u/Yetero93 16h ago

Yeah thank god

3

u/gear_fear22 15h ago

That list of racial and class changes 2 weeks before launch wtf. Its so many balance changes, i forgot blizzard did these giant changes to everything all around. They need to take riots approach to balance, tiny changes and do more or less as needed based on data of the small change.

2

u/SheepOnDaStreet 15h ago

All you need to know is that they announced a new game a month and half before release with a major push to pre-purchase that includes “beta” access. Then they go through and make major class changes based on feedback of level 30 characters….

Blizzard looks extremely disorganized right now

2

u/Equanimity_779 13h ago

What is hilarious with these complaints is that this feels so much more like original vanilla, which had a lot of updates and changes. It’s good. Keep cooking blitz.

2

u/sephireicc 16h ago

They purposefully want the game to be unsolved past 30. It's gonna be unbalanced, and there is gonna be a lot of changes every week. Gonna feel fresh.

1

u/ClaraFeetConnoisseur 16h ago

Im set on what I will play but on release they have to be more careful when balancing, imagine how much the people that roll the minmax race would be if it gets nerfed. Glad they are tweaking racials now

1

u/sephireicc 15h ago

I'm going priest so I gotta worry about 2x the amount when it comes to racials. Though, I'm not gonna care that much about it if the meta shifts a little bit towards another race.

1

u/ClaraFeetConnoisseur 15h ago

Oh me priest to but idaf, if Im gonna play this game “forever” Im gonna run Human priest cos it looks the best imo, whatever they do to it idc. (Would maybe have gone skyborne since it looks pretty nice too but…)

2

u/sephireicc 15h ago

+Spirit, no worthless sword spec and a stun trinket is definitely gonna be great. I'll be gnome though as I do tend to choose race based on pvp rather than pve.

Beta ends in 5 days and they just made a massive change to talents and only say they "will continue working after release" on the broken layering/phasing issues. Pass the copium my way brother

1

u/Resident_Addendum516 16h ago

I reckon the game has a shelf life of 1-2 years max going back through rehashed classic stuff before it becomes mtx hellscape with playable squirrel race and essentially retail v2 alternate timeline..

Blizz once again farming the classic money tree hyping themselves up for what a great idea they had when it’s just piggybacking off the work of the OG devs.

Modern devs are absolutely fucking hopeless and it’s no wonder that most of them don’t give a shit about classic, half of them probably weren’t born when it was released.

1

u/brothediscpriest 9h ago

…. Because they are tuning classes?

You realise that the “OG Devs” did continous class tuning and overhauls all the way through Vanilla? Do you realise how poor the balance was at first? It was still quite poor after 2 years when 1.12 released.

1

u/Cmackdee 15h ago

This was quite the read. You ok man?

1

u/LulzLookatTheseNoobs 16h ago

Basicaly from what I’ve played there has been maybe one or two complete games on release in the last 10 years. Everything else is basically released in a beta version for the first year.

1

u/Capnbaddazz 15h ago

I care less about the changes they have made to design and art than I do about them obviously balancing at 30 for the dumb streamer monkey fights

1

u/MakeASpreadsheet 15h ago

I mean, who cares?

It’s forever. They will figure it out eventually. I’m along for the ride.

1

u/Time_Manufacturer485 15h ago

It’s a live service game that’s always gotten updates and balance changes so I’m optimistic they’ll get a stable game environment. I wish they would take more risks though

1

u/Dabeston 14h ago

Yall can’t call it retail anymore so you’re finding different things to call it.

SOD was so drastically different

1

u/Slurm11 14h ago

I just really hope they commit to class balance. I'd hate to see severely underperforming specs at 60. Especially the hybrid classic that only have 1-2 dps specs.

1

u/evryon 14h ago

Maybe SoD 0.2

1

u/Agreeable-Sector505 14h ago

I think the "experimental" feel was them using the beta as a way to signal that they wanted to be responsive to community feedback in the way that Jagex is with OSRS. Could just be wishful thinking. But it's refreshing after the BFA/SL "we know what's best for you" response to community feedback. Hopefully Forever can become the game that everyone wants it to be

1

u/Schkrasss 14h ago

Honestly I really hope it's good, but I'm worried that in 6-12 months this game isn't going to look anything like classic+, but instead more like a retail mix up.

If this gives me 12 months of fun i'mmore than satisfied. No matter where they go next.

Thats way more WoW has given me since Classic release with which I had fun until about 2-3 months into TBC (killed Kael'thas and Vashj, BT wasn't out yet), with a break of 2-3 months before TBC release iirc.

1

u/New_Acanthaceae_8024 14h ago

Man I joined this sub as a retail guy excited to go back to a classic experience (yes I've been playing since vanilla) thinking people would be excited.

Y'all never will be happy about anything.

1

u/Beginning-Advice-168 14h ago

I was also hype but started to get frustrated. Like balance the classes and make all spec viable then just let the game play out. They are turning too many knobs at the same time I’m afraid.

1

u/Gobstoppers12 14h ago

I think Forever is amazing and it is exactly what I wanted from a "Classic+" Project thus far. I think people complain too much, also.

1

u/18WheelsOfJustice 13h ago

Feels rushed for q4 reports yes.

1

u/maverick7918 13h ago

Man I was soooo excited for Hell Let Loose: Vietnam, then it came out and I played it for a week or two and realized it wasn’t really fun, so I stopped playing it.

Then I was sooooo excited for the makers of Spiderman to make a gruesome Wolverine game, then it came out and the reviews and videos showed how bad it was so I didn’t even buy it.

Savvy?

1

u/Geistzeit 13h ago

I agree with the title but none of your specific points.

I think it should be delayed three months just to fix layering and nail down final numbers on balance changes, leveling speed, and dungeon/raid difficulty.

1

u/MountainMeringue3655 13h ago

The last patch notes really show that they didn't do much internal testing. Those aren't changes you'd do 2-3 weeks prior to launch.

1

u/Sulinia 13h ago

The classic art style is supposed to be preserved, yet much of the new content they are adding is of retail art style, dropped into the classic art style world.

I agree with you on this, but I don't think it's the end of the world and I do think they'll actually listen to feedback here.

The social experience is one of their pillars, yet they've added mega servers and a completely bust layering system that is completely counter to this.

Because the old realm system was frowned upon as well. People were getting trapped on dead servers and were begging for them to allow transfers. The layer system could be better and they've been pretty open about them having to tweak the system on the fly. They've acknowledged this in their podcasts

They've added a race that nobodies heard of, or asked for that looks like it's straight out of retail instead of adding classic lore friendly races.

People want horde elves. They could've done it differently I agree and as for the models they've listened to the feedback and there will be coming SD versions. This is obviously a bold design choice and it was 100% on purpose to give us some "new" content out of the gate. I don't think it's the end of the world as there will be new/other races in the future - they chose to make some new content for launch instead of doing something safe, it might've missed the mark a bit, but they can just release already established races in the future.

Horizontal progression, as repeatedly mentioned at Blizzcon, is in fact not in the game. There is horizontal type content, but character progression is vertical as it is in all other wow versions. So how will our characters and their progress stay relevant with "forever" power creep?

Anyone thinking they were purely going with horizontal progression clearly were smoking something. Very few people are going to play a game where their BiS gear is still BiS 5 years from now because we're purely doing horizontal progression. Or the fact that all of our power is "borrowed" in the sense that it's conditional and only works in specific zones or against specific mobs. Having niche items that works like that is cool, but when you go from one raid to the other and have to replace your entire Furbolg slaying set with an Undead one for the other raid, then the horizontal progression loses its charm and it feels like the game plays like it's on rails and is throwing you "cheat codes" to deal with that specific raid.

If people are going back to a raid they did 5 years ago in Forever, then a lot of people would hate if they're not one bit stronger than they were 5 years ago.

Datamined stuff coming out is looking increasingly retail.

If we're talking about the mounts and such then I think they've made it clear they listen to feedback on this as they've changed models before based on feedback.

These posts really are weird as Blizzard have shown to listen to a lot of the feedback we give them. It's clear they're letting us (somewhat) decide the future of the game but still understand what makes Classic/Vanilla good. Sure there are places where they're not doing all too great, but we as a community are horrible as well. The entire debate about vertical- vs. horizontal progression is the perfect example of the community not knowing what they want and Blizzard actually understanding what's best for the game.

1

u/Raptor_Jetpack 13h ago

they needed to rush it out to get the quarterly earnings up to make shareholders happy

1

u/slimeslim 13h ago

Please stop posting

1

u/MFOSIXTEEN 12h ago

I think most people can agree that this game is not ready for release.

1

u/Scour1990 12h ago

If you want classic, you can literally play wow classic right now. It's live, but there is a reason it's dead.

1

u/_XIIX_ 12h ago

personally i dont really care about the artstyle stuff or the blue elves, its not ideal but its whatever, but im genuinely shocked they are not recieving more pushback against this horrible layering mess, it completely kills the pvp and social experience

1

u/Truethrowawaychest1 12h ago

Because this is an experiment, however, it really seems like this will be perpetually updated (if it's popular at least) unlike SOD

1

u/Terrible_Tadpole_861 11h ago

It's definitely not ready for release, buuuuuut, I would rather play jank while they fix instead of waiting half a year for a more perfect launch 🤷

1

u/Subjectxy 11h ago

Ingame, during combat, during the moment to moment gameplay, it still feels very much like classic. The one and only REALLY big gamebreaking issue right now is the retail sharding system, which at the very least must be redone or changed for the layer system.

1

u/throw81727171 11h ago

How would you know if horizontal progression exists at level 30? Of course 1-60 is fucking vertical

1

u/Carrie_White0 9h ago

SoD was at least original this is just mashed shit from previous expansions and private servers.

1

u/dicknkitty22 9h ago

Feels much worse than SoD.

1

u/NorthKoreanKnuckles 7h ago

I agree with you, but people from this sub will hate you for that.

1

u/TheContrariant 6h ago

Totally Agree.
Especially the horizontal part, and the layering/sharding contrary to Classic.

WoW Forever + Vertical gear cap increase + 5 years = Retail

I guess "Forever" meant "Forever the same mistakes" ?

Typically in a beta you'd expect the game to be finished and the team would be at the bug fixing stage alongside minor changes.

No you don't. And you obviously have never played a Beta before if you believe this. I've beta tested WoW many times, as well as other MMO's and things change drastically from week to week, and many times from end to release. Stop with the doom and gloom bullshit.

1

u/PhoenixQueen_Azula 14h ago

Are those games usually released mere weeks later after one fairly short beta period when there hasn’t been time to even fix things and make changes based on the beta feedback?

1

u/Low_Oil_6825 16h ago

People really have no idea what a beta is.

I’m pretty sure these people are new to gaming as a whole.

They think the beta is only for bug fixes and praising the devs.

2

u/OkConServe 16h ago

Betas have been ways to generate hype and sell pre-orders for like 15 years now.

1

u/Low_Oil_6825 15h ago

Of course it’s marketing but is it also something else?

1

u/lifeisashitpost 14h ago

Every single class played better in SoD. We'd be lucky if this was SoD2.

1

u/imnotactuallyaperson 13h ago

That's an interesting take

1

u/HeathcliffZA 15h ago

FRESH and NEW CONTENT, idgaffff

1

u/Old-Tie8770 15h ago

Nah release is gonna be awesome, sorry it’s not for you

1

u/Parking_Ad4164 15h ago

Theres always classic era for you mate

1

u/ISmellLikeAss 15h ago

They are just too focused on making balance updates for a level 30 dual tournament. They also need to drop the streamer glazing. Wth are streamers invited to these dev podcast?

They had tipsout the organizer of the tournament at the pvp podcast. Why? What value does that or he bring.

1

u/Daventry85 15h ago

Don't let the door hit you on the way out

1

u/Dahns 14h ago

SoD 2?! It feels like Era 2

0

u/skolefar 16h ago

What is looking retail to you? And what is retail? Everything past tbc?

3

u/thigor 15h ago

From what I've gathered reading this subreddit the last few weeks, anything that you don't like = retail

2

u/skolefar 15h ago

Ah, so anything that isnt era, is retail :p

0

u/thigor 15h ago

I envy your life that you can spare genuine concern on a video game, must be nice to have it so easy. It's just a game man, if it ends up not being good just don't play it.

0

u/TheClassicAndyDev 15h ago

Because that's what is is.

It's nit ready. They haven't been working on it for years. They been "working" on it the same way you "think you might mow the lawn later." they only have been discussing it, and putting together lore/quest stuff and shaping out the world/zones.

They didn't even start working on class design until a couple weeks before blizzcon. All the talents and shit were basically yolo'd until the blizzcon build. It's being rushed out for q4 profit padding.

It's not ready. Not even close.

0

u/Batmanbruh90 14h ago

Well, not sure if you knew, but this is the BETA. BETA TESTS are NOT generally refined products ready for release. 🤦‍♂️😂😂

1

u/Nessarra 13h ago

They are talking about how un-beta-like the development has been. It seems more like it's in early alpha and they're blending alpha with beta.
