Mental Health Really struggling to accept that this is my life and I don't even have a name for "it"
I began feeling unwell about 2 years ago, something was just off, and summer of last year it turned worse. I began trying to get help a year ago and I have had so many contacts with health care since. I've felt like I'm going crazy, because all standard tests come back normal while I feel so exhausted I can't care for myself.
My eyes hurt so much the past 10 months and I've been trying to get someone to help me, I finally got to see an ophthalmologis a month ago. She commented that I looked tired and my eyes look fine, I probably just need a rest. I asked her to please measure my tear production cause something aint right and I had 0 mm bilateral Schirmer's test, she was so surprised. Then more tests and I got a KCS + MGD diagnosis and I cried from relief when the optician who did the test said it was NOT strange that my eyes hurt, that she didn't understand how I could even work. I've seriously been telling myself my eyes must be hurting so much because I'm overly sensitive.
I feel so lonely and desperate and kind of pathetic when I am trying to get help and no one seems to grasp the severity of how much my life has changed. I don't understand what is happening, and for me who's an analytical problem solver my instinct is to try and find out what's wrong so I can do something about it, but I'm powerless. The PCP I had for the first 6 months of this did not help my sanity, he was 100% convinced that I just have somatic symptom disorder so everything I said just confirmed his hypothesis. He said famotidine curing my stomach issues that he diagnosed as IBS was cause of its' anxiolytic effects, that I am one of those patients who get sicker the more health care contacts I have?
I'm just struggling. I am failing as a partner, as a colleague and as a person, I turned 40 and have had to cancel my birthday trip twice because I was too unwell to go, I can barely leave the house because I'm so exhausted, but I can't get sick-leave because I shouldn't be feeling this tired when "all my tests are normal". I haven't cooked dinner in months, my partner carries such a large burden, I'm scared this will ruin our relationship in the end.
It's like I'm living in some kafkaesque nightmare I can't get out of. My brain starts to wander to places where I wonder if I'm just imaging everything, maybe I'm just making myself ill somehow, without me knowing it? That maybe it's normal not being able to finish a meal, vomiting/regurgitating, maybe it's like this for everyone, maybe I'm too demanding when I want to know why and just a whiny woman when I say I can't live like this?
I've tried to seek less help, considering that maybe I have somatic symptom disorder, but I just feel more and more exhausted and unwell no matter what I do.
I sometimes feel disconnected from reality somehow, I'm not sure if it's from the stress of it all, it's like my body is my enemy and I can't get away any other way. How do you stay sane in this kind of situation?
