Question Medi-Cal Dentist Recommendations

I'm on Partnership Healthplan currently. I know my options are limited. I'm able to drive to places outside of Chico such as Paradise, Oroville, Gridley, and etc. I know to avoid Western Dental and a few others. Less for cosmetic and more so for health.

Looking for volunteer opportunities

I’m looking to start volunteering somewhere soon and am hoping for suggestions. This would ideally be a place where I can help in afternoons/evenings or weekends. Ideally I would get to work/help with other volunteers or workers.

What ideas do you have?

Question Looking for apartment recommendations

Hey guys!
Moving to Chico next month and looking for apartment recommendations. I’m hoping to stay around $1,500/month. Any good apartments you’d recommend? Also, any places I should avoid? Appreciate it!

Does anyone know what that giant explosion was? We heard it in the godman ave/east lassen area. It was so big it shook the floors.

Question Did you get the flyer about Flood insurance and El Nino?

Question for homeowners: We received a flyer from the state saying that our home in central Chico is near a state-managed levee, and during an El Niño year might be subject to flooding. It recommended that we look into getting flood insurance. Did anyone else receive that flyer? Have you priced out what flood insurance would cost you?

Nazi watch

Be safe out there.

@ Taco Bell on 20th with my kid earlier this evening and a rather crusty looking 30 something woman rolls up on her bike - complete with a fake skull repping the Nazi SS.

Not super obvious from a distance, but it was there.

Dumb interaction with her after I took a picture of her bike as it was parked outside.

Her: Did you take a picture of my bike?

Me: Yes

Her: Why?

Me: Because of the Nazi SS on your skull. I don't see a lot of Nazi propaganda out there and I don't like it.

Her: Why take a photo if you don't like it? Huh?

Me: Because sharing is caring. It's not just for me.

Then she gave us a rather confused look and left. A brief mean look at she rode away.

Turned into a good teachable moment for my 10 year old.

Anyway, fuck Nazis and be safe out there.

Also, pardon my ignorance, but is this normal around here?

We've only been here a year and a half, and we don't get out much, but this is my first SS sighting.

Anyone else see this?

Sorry I wish I had a better picture as this was taken on super zoom mode so there may be some AI filling in the pixels. It was floating against the breeze in North East Chico around 10:15. The sun was reflecting off the top as it drifted. Maybe a drone, but I've never seen one like this.

ISO Adult chicken for sale

I'm visiting from out of state and was staying at a friend's house who has three adult Silkie chickens. Sadly, my dog got a hold of one through the wire, and I feel awful about it. I'd love to replace it with another adult Silkie, but I'm not sure where to look.

If anyone has an adult Silkie they'd be willing to sell, or knows where I might find one nearby, I would truly appreciate the help!

Discussion It’s not even cold!

I opened my window on this beautiful morning and it’s smoky out, but not because of wildfires. Some jackass in my neighborhood thinks it’s time to get their fireplace going. It’s going to be 71 degrees today. Come on! It’s not even cold yet!

I don’t think people know how bad that fine particular matter is for lungs. This is my annual fall pet peeve.

I get that fireplaces are some people’s only source of heat, but can we at least wait till it’s cold?

Edit to add: I grew up here, and this was not a thing until maybe November, when there was, you know, actual weather that would help lift the smoke.

Fire today?

Can't find anything at the moment but just got back from pumpkin patch in Orland and it seems hella smokey outside, had to close up the windows. On the South side here, anyone know what's up?

Normally wouldn't even bother posting about it but it's pretty damn strong in the air right now.

Sober living

Hello, I’m trying to help a friend who’s homeless and needs rehab. He prefers a sober home where he could possibly continue working to make money. I don’t know how things work as I’m really new to all of this. At some point he was willing to do the Salvation Army program but they wouldn’t take him in if he wasn’t 100% sober. He will never be 100% sober without rehab so what options do we have? Any recommendations? Thank you
