Question Want Almond Bowl Tickets? Chico High side

I have two general admission tickets to the CHICO SIDE. Tickets are side specific and you will not be able to go to the other side. The CUSD clear bag policy is in effect. I can transfer them to you via email, the easiest way is the GoFan app. They were $22 each.

My son is sick and we are sadly no longer able to go. Please respond here or direct message me.

CJHS incidents today

CHS has always been good sending out alerts about times the school has an incident or go on lockdown but CJHS is silent. There were 3 separate fights on campus today and a lockdown but no information sent out to parents yet. I'm not asking for personal information just some assurance that my kid was safe. I don't want to hear about these kinds of things for the first time from my freaked out kid after school.

Chico Parade of Lights 2026 Cancelled

From their Facebook page…

A Difficult Announcement About the Future of the Chico Parade of Lights

A Message from the Chico Parade of Lights Board of Directors

Dear Chico Community,

This is a letter we never imagined we would have to write.

After 37 years of bringing our community together, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of the 2026 Chico Parade of Lights.

Since 1989, the parade has been a cherished Chico tradition, bringing families, schools, businesses, organizations, and neighbors together each October to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season.

For those of us who have spent years organizing this event, the parade has always been about much more than floats and lights. It has been about seeing the excitement on thousands of children’s faces, watching families make memories, and bringing thousands of people of all backgrounds together in the heart of our downtown to celebrate the goodness in our community.

Unfortunately, the City of Chico’s new security requirements have made it financially and logistically impossible for our volunteer board to hold the parade this year.

What Has Changed?

For more than three decades, the parade operated with city-approved movable street barricades and volunteers stationed throughout the route to help keep participants and spectators safe.

In 2025, the City of Chico introduced new security requirements for parades and large public gatherings on city streets, intended to prevent unauthorized vehicles from entering crowded areas to harm the crowd.

Under these requirements, traditional movable barricades are no longer sufficient. Instead, the city requires large trucks, heavy trailers, substantial concrete barriers, or other approved heavy equipment capable of preventing a vehicle from pushing through into the parade area.

These barriers must secure approximately 22 downtown intersections, along with another 15–20 parking lot entrances, driveways, and other vehicle access points throughout the parade route and staging areas.

Because many of these locations now require multiple vehicles or barriers, meeting these requirements would mean securing more than 80 large vehicles, with a volunteer driver available for each vehicle for five to six hours on the day of the parade before the city approves our application.

Additionally, vehicle owners and volunteer drivers would be required to accept responsibility for damage to their own vehicles should an incident occur which discourages many of our volunteers (ranging in age 21-70) to be discouraged from participating.

We understand and respect the importance of public safety. It has always been a priority for our board as well. However, the equipment, personnel, and resources now required are far beyond what our small volunteer organization can provide on its own.

What Made Last Year’s Parade Possible?

When the City of Chico introduced these new requirements in 2025, our board faced a challenge unlike anything we had experienced in more than three decades of organizing the parade.

Recognizing the resources needed to meet these requirements, the city partnered with our board for the first time by providing their large trucks, heavy equipment, and concrete barriers to help secure the parade route.

That partnership made it possible for us to hold the parade in 2025. We were grateful for the city’s cooperation and believed we had found a practical way to continue this tradition while meeting the new safety standards.

Unfortunately, that partnership did not continue into 2026.

Our board began planning in the spring, as we have done for decades. Despite repeated attempts over several months to communicate with city officials and departments, we struggled to get the responses needed to move forward.

When we finally met with city representatives last month, we were informed that the city would no longer provide the same assistance without charging us more than $19,000.

At the same time, the parade application fee increased from $300 last year to $1,000 this year.

With insurance, portable restrooms, sanitation, and other necessary expenses, the total cost of holding the parade would now reach approximately $25,000 to $30,000.

Our board consists of fewer than ten dedicated volunteers who spend months planning and organizing this event for our community, supported by another 50–100 volunteers on parade day.

We have always been willing to give our time and energy to make this tradition possible. But without the city’s continued partnership and under the new requirements, we simply do not have the financial resources, heavy equipment, or personnel needed to make the parade possible.

More Than a Parade

What makes this decision especially painful is knowing how much this tradition means to Chico.

We have received hundreds of messages and phone calls from participant businesses, schools, organizations, churches, and individuals asking for applications to enter the Chico Parade of Lights in the past several weeks.

Every year, thousands of participants, from young children to longtime community members, have proudly represented their schools, businesses, organizations, and causes they believe in during the parade.

More than 10,000 spectators each year have gathered along our downtown streets to cheer them on. Local restaurants and businesses buzz with customers and have welcomed the crowds, and benefited from an evening that brings our downtown to life under hundreds of thousands of lights.

The Parade of Lights has always brought people together regardless of their backgrounds, beliefs, or differences. For one evening each October, we simply come together as neighbors to celebrate our community.

And that is what we will miss most.

Over the years, we have had the privilege of working with countless volunteers, local businesses, the Downtown Chico Business Association, Chico Chamber of Commerce, local media, and many other community partners. Their generosity and involvement have made this tradition possible.

To all of them, and to every family who has attended, participated, or supported the parade, we offer our heartfelt thanks.

We want our community to know that canceling the parade is not a decision we wanted to make.

We would much rather be spending our time preparing for another wonderful evening in downtown Chico than explaining why we cannot hold it.

We respect the city’s responsibility to protect public safety as they see it, and we share that commitment.

At the same time, we believe that longstanding community traditions like the Parade of Lights deserve practical solutions and partnerships that allow them to continue safely.

We remain hopeful that such a partnership may be possible again someday.

For now, it is difficult to accept that after 37 years, our downtown streets will be without the hundreds of thousands of lights, cheering excitement, and familiar faces that have made this October evening so special.

To everyone who has been part of the Chico Parade of Lights, thank you. You have given your time, talents, resources, and hearts to something that has brought joy to generations of Chico families and business owners.

We are proud of what we have accomplished together, and deeply saddened that we cannot carry it forward this year.

The parade may not take place this October, but the memories we have created together will always be part of Chico.

With sincere appreciation and heavy hearts,

The Board of Directors
Chico Parade of Lights

Hi hello, so the car that I’m looking to get from this lady has a anti theft immobilizer on it, I called a mechanic they said to get a code reader into the car to restore the codes I don’t have a code reader and I frankly don’t have money to spend neither for a $150 mechanic, does anybody wanna come take a look at her? The previous battery was dead so we got a new one and I hooked it up, but if your good with cars and wanna come take a look that’d be nice :) <3

Eaton/East traffic circle hijinks

Special shout-out today to the bro in the large light-colored pickup truck last night around 7:00 PM that took the traffic circle heading out of Upper Park a bit too quickly, lost control, absolutely leveled the old-timey lamppost next to the crosswalk on the western side, slowed down a bit, seemed to realize what just happened, and then raced off.

Just because GTA 6 isn't out yet doesn't mean you can't still work on your driving skill irl.

Water Contingencies

Tonight City Council is meeting. On the agenda is deciding on what to do about local water, and how far we should let the underground water empty before we put contingencies in place, called a minimum threshold.

Where do you want this minimum threshold to be?

Is the level before or after wells run dry? Before or after the largest trees can no longer reach? Before or after smaller local farmers cannot secure our local food supplies? Where should the minimum threshold be?

Public Comments are still open.
The meeting is open to the public tonight at 411 Main Street in downtown Chico at 5pm. There will be a presentation and time for public comments in person.

Final decision is due Nov 4

Before my preacher neighbor went to jail last year after admitting to child molestation as reported in local news he paid to have his oak trees trimmed. Now the city is trimming them second day in a row. Why are my tax dollars paying for his tree trimmed?

Where to get a physical in Chico?

My girlfriend needs a physical for a job but they left her to find a place herself. We're hoping to make an appointment to avoid the wait of sitting in urgent care for however long. Any advice? Bonus points if they take blue cross blue shield. I don't even know if insurance covers physicals but if we can get it covered, we may as well.

Edit: Thanks to everyone who answered. We went to Ampla and it wasn't too bad. I don't know how much my girlfriend paid for it off the top of my head but if someone finds this thread and is wondering just dm me.

Question Ballottrax not showing ballot has been mailed back. Anyone else?

I mailed my ballot back on Friday night so it was picked up Saturday. Ballot tracking isn’t even showing that the USPS has my ballot. It’s been days. I called the butte election line and they said if it’s not updated by Friday, to call them as they will have to escalate.

Has this happened to anyone else? I should’ve used a drop box. Never again will I mail my ballot back out.
