u/XXLady_Vortex 8h ago
She was so wobbly and she wouldn’t settle down so she just barreled into everything repeatedly

u/weary_bee479 8h ago
Yeah it’s normal for them to not be able to settle down after, they just kind of walk around aimlessly.
Mine went into the litter box, spun around like ten times and still ended up sticking his butt outside the box and peeing on the floor lol

I'm so sorry that must have been terrible to deal with but also that's so funny lol

u/XXLady_Vortex 3h ago
I felt so bad but I was also hysterically wheezing. It was absolutely not funny that she was in discomfort but it was so pitiful I couldn’t control it 🥺

u/weary_bee479 3h ago
Lol yes now it’s funny and we laugh about it but we were definitely all very stressed those couple days

I’m so scared to take my cats in for the dental exam due to the anesthesia- any tips on navigating that?

u/XXLady_Vortex 5h ago
Our vet required blood work before booking her surgery to make sure all of her levels were okay. I was worried about that too because of the horror stories I read online, but I think most people’s experiences are not those negative ones.

I've had 2 cats who needed to be sedated for dental work. The most important thing is to have a vet you trust. They should talk to you about all the steps, the risks, and what you should do to make your cat comfortable before and after.
As someone else commented, they should do blood work about a month beforehand to check for other issues.
The thing to keep in mind is that dental issues can cause your cat a lot of discomfort and other health issues, so as scary as it is, it's better to treat these issues early.

u/weary_bee479 3h ago
Others have already said blood test before. Speak to the vet, tell them your concerns. If the vet ignores them find a new one. You need a vet who understands that obviously we’re going to worry and question.
But you have to tell yourself the dental is for their own good. With my cat, within a week after recovery he was so much better. When their teeth hurt they might get crabby, or they can’t eat. We noticed right away, even though our cat was never mean per say, he was way nicer after. Someone before he would get annoyed if you touched him. Obviously he was in pain and the pain made him agitated.
So yeah it’s scary and I’ll be honest you’ll probably be anxious all day (i was) it’ll be better for your cat in the end! They will be so much happier after.
Don’t read the horror stories. Don’t let people scare you away from it.

Get ready to see a huge increase in her quality of life! When we had to have most of our senior cat’s teeth pulled it’s like he turned into a kitten again. They hide their pain so well but when they’re free from it you can tell!

u/XXLady_Vortex 5h ago
She was definitely not herself the past few weeks so we got her in as soon as we could. Im so glad we were able to get this done quickly for her!

💯
When my old man had all his teeth out, he really did come out of his shell and become a lot more affectionate and playful.

Glad Sega got through it. Do you mind if I ask how old Sega is? My guy is 14 and looking at some major dental work. I’m getting cold feet because he’s really not in pain or doing bad. It worries me.

u/lennster10 7h ago
Get it done, you and your baby won’t regret it. My 14 year old lady had hers done and it greatly improved her QOL. The procedure was not any big deal for her despite having 11+ teeth yanked, she ate kibble the following day. Those bad teeth weren’t doing her any good anyway.

u/Tar-really 7h ago
Thank you!

u/lennster10 7h ago
You’re welcome! I was nervous about it as well and financially couldn’t swing it for a long time, so I get it!

u/XXLady_Vortex 5h ago
She’s only 3! So unfortunately she may have to go through this again and will most likely end up toothless by her senior years. Hopefully not, but they warned us of that.

Damn the ISS crowd is probably wondering how did a cat spawn there, she's in orbit!

She is going to feel soooo much better in a few days. I hope she has a quick recovery and a pain-free future.
My old man cat, Two-Face, had all his teeth removed and it really helped his anxiety and disposition. He became much more affectionate and friendly. And it was very adorable seeing him inhale kibble afterwards without chewing 🤣

u/XXLady_Vortex 3h ago
Aww I’m so glad to hear he’s better now. And I love his name!

u/tyrealhsm 34m ago
Thank you! He passed about a year ago at the age of 18. He was the cranky old man of the house but when we got new kittens, he got a huge windfall of energy and playfulness with the little ones.

I, am I’m almost certain at least a few others, would LOVE the “Storytime” of how & why* their moniker was chosen, in addition to the *“Cat Tax”** that was missed. 🧐🤨🤨😐😑🫴🏾🤲🏾🔙👀😐🤦🏾♀️🤭🤷🏾♀️✊🏾💪🏾🩵💯

His name was more literal than you may have thought. He was a really good boy.

That post dental high, poor baby. She’ll feel so much better now, though. Great job op. Dental issues are often missed!

Sega is a great cat name. Whats your nickname for her? Seggy?

I had a cat that needed several teeth removed. Longer hairs from her grooming got wrapped around her back teeth (which I didn’t noticed), and her teeth rotted, poor baby.

Not a single thought behind those eyes. Best wishes on your speedy recovery Sega!

Not a single thought? She's probably having thoughts that have thoughts that have thoughts right now lol

u/Loserdogma 7h ago
Lol I was definitely thinking Sega has All The Thoughts by this point. Every thought that could be had, Sega’s got them.

My Willow is completely toothless. We did it over five different surgeries that occurred over five years. It was very expensive to do it that way. But she is such a happier kitty without those painful teeth in her mouth. In addition to wet canned food, she’s able to chew and get down a lot of raw freeze dried kibble I am able to find for cats. It is soft enough that she can chew it. She really loves the Nulo brand. Stomatitis sucks.

u/XXLady_Vortex 3h ago
That’s great to know about the freeze dried stuff! She already ate canned food so luckily it should be an easy adjustment for her

u/dph3onix 3h ago
I don’t know if you’d happen to have a grocery outlet near. They have been very serendipitously stocking various raw freeze dried cat food kibbles at very good prices at my local grocery outlet

Why? What happened? Is he fine?
9
u/XXLady_Vortex 8h ago
She has some sort of autoimmune disorder that apparently makes her body attack her teeth. She has asthma so she gets check ups twice a year and sometime between her last appointment and this one her gums became inflamed and extremely painful. Hopefully she’ll be feeling much better in a few days 🥺

Sounds like resorptive lesions which show up as red lines against the gum line. It is quite painful for cats. The teeth actually start "resorbing" i.e. dissolving. Your vet will always look for it. They think it is autoimmune-related. Cats do fine without teeth and are much more comfortable. Believe me, removing the teeth will be a preventative for many trips to the vet and results in a much happier cat.

Probably bad tartar build up. Some cats are fine without regular full dental cleanings, but some really need them at least once a year and it's often too late when owners and vets find out. Looks like wet food for life for this little guy.

My cat’s teeth were all being reabsorbed so I had to have all of them removed. Now he has zero teeth.

If only she could convey the things she’s seen with her own two eyes. 👀

u/Clownfest_1984 8h ago
All in one go? Was it a cohat level 3 or 4? 14 sounds way too many at once tbh.. she ll definitely feel better afterwards though. Is she having stomatitis causing this? Good luck to you and the baby 😽
2
u/XXLady_Vortex 5h ago
Unfortunately she had a condition where her body was attacking her teeth and they were infected/rotting from the inside out so they had to go. I think it was stomatitis? I can’t remember the name, but it was an autoimmune disorder!

My vet says my 8 year old boy needs 6 or 7 teeth out including 3 fangs. He doesn’t seem to be suffering (it was found during a check for something else) so we’re going to hold off a bit.

My kitty had all teeth removed. He had a dental disease as a kitten. I can’t remember the name of the disease.

u/Ditania 5h ago
Hi! Honest question, is it a common procedure in the USA for cats to get their teeth removed?
4
u/XXLady_Vortex 5h ago
Hers were dissolving from the inside out and causing a nasty infection/fever in her body so she needed them removed. As far as I know vets won’t remove healthy teeth unless this condition is evidently going to keep happening.

Those eyes have seen things untold…
Unspeakable, UnMeowable, things.
In 1/4 Second, they witnessed:
•Their own conception ( Mama was a freak & Papa was a rolling wad of shipping packaging)
•Their own birth, TWICE. First, as if they were their own mother, & Second, as if they were the jilted sperm ALMOST Brothers & Sisters that they & their littermates beat out in the race & fight to come into existence
•Their full life up until their transition into their TRUE nature & form, which would be, them being God-Kitty, the Creator & Father of ALL cats who’ve ever existed, in the past, present, & future, including THEMSELF
Anywho, out of everything seen, experienced, learned, & shared here today, the takeaway & what everyone here, humans & felines alike, can agree on is, Those were some strong ass drugs.
💊💉🐈🐱🙀😻😸😺😽😹👍🏾🤭🤷🏾♀️✊🏾💪🏾🩵💯

Also, this just reminded me of how my “GodKitten” (Godchild that’s a cat) reacted to the drugs he had administered to him while having a few of his teeth pulled, too. Even though it was around 20 years ago, I can see it clear as day, as if it just happened earlier this morning, because of how bizarre & absolutely HILARIOUS* *it was. 🤭🙂↔️🤦🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🩵👍🏾
It happened after his Mommy & I got him home & let him out of his carrier for him to “go back into the wild” of his “territory/domain” (his & her entire house).🏠👀😻😼🤦🏾♀️🤭
For the better part of an hour, he sat by the fridge, with his back to it as if he were a Bouncer for Club Frigidaire. While doing that, he seemed to be attempting to “kill two birds with one stone” by doing his Bouncer duties of restricting access to the fridge, but also on his lunch break, marked by him attempting to hunt, kill, & eat the air. Unfortunately & fortunately, to no avail.
💨😬🐈😼🌬️😽🐈😾
😐🙂↔️🤦🏾♀️🤭🤷🏾♀️
He is missed, SO DEARLY. 🐈😍🥰🤗🥹✊🏾💪🏾🩵💯
