Breathing and voice issues

Hi all, here’s a quick recap of what my 11 year old cat dealing with:
3 weeks ago he lost his voice, instead of meowing either scratchy or no sound
2 weeks ago we started hearing wheezing
Went to our vet he checked blood (all good) and x-ray (radiology sent this:
Possible diffuse thickening of the laryngeal wall associated with narrowing of the laryngeal lumen, can be consistent with inflammatory changes (severe laryngitis) vs neoplastic infiltration (lymphoma vs others).
Got referred to specialist
Did consult plus cardiology (they heard murmurs), heart all good
Said we need ct scan. Unfortunately on the day of ct scan their scanner broke, so we’re now waiting for fix or going to another hospital.

My question is is it looking like anything specific because the doctors seem not knowing anything and now we’re still waiting for scan. Here’s the link of him breathinghttps://youtube.com/shorts/cOEBoOrwV9U?si=J4INcfiBMZWdJUlq

Help

Veterinarians, please help. Kitten with chronic sneezing, eye discharge and blindness despite treatment.
I adopted a blind kitten around two months ago. She was approximately 45 days old when I brought her home. She was extremely playful and active but had been sneezing constantly since I got her. Her foster carers told me it was due to weather changes, so I initially did not realise how serious it could be.
Since then, I have consulted at least three veterinarians.
Her blood tests were mostly normal, except for a mildly elevated WBC count. Initially, allergies were suspected, but we eventually ruled out a possible reaction to my resident cat.
Here is what we have tried so far:
• Supplements prescribed by the first vet, with no significant improvement.
• Doxycycline for 10 days, which did not help and seemed to make her uncomfortable.
• Antihistamines, which she vomited.
• Famciclovir for 10 days and antibiotics for 7 days, prescribed by another vet who suspected feline herpesvirus (FHV).
• Nebulization for her respiratory symptoms.
One veterinarian also prescribed steroids. Another vet examined her eyes and said she has adhesions and may have become blind due to herpesvirus.
Unfortunately, despite all these treatments, she continues to have persistent sneezing and frequent sneezing fits. Her nose is especially congested with discharge in the mornings, and her eyes constantly produce secretions. Sometimes her eyes become stuck shut while she sleeps.
She is still eating well, but she has become much quieter and less playful than when I first adopted her. It is heartbreaking to see her like this, especially because she is so young. She has also not been vaccinated yet because she has been unwell continuously.
My questions for veterinarians and people experienced in feline respiratory diseases:
Does this sound consistent with chronic feline herpesvirus, or should we investigate other causes of persistent sneezing and nasal discharge?
If famciclovir and antibiotics have not resolved her symptoms, what diagnostic tests should I discuss with my vet? Would PCR testing or further investigation for chronic rhinitis be useful?
What could cause such persistent eye discharge and adhesions, and should she be examined by a veterinary ophthalmologist?
Is steroid treatment appropriate in a kitten with suspected herpesvirus and these eye symptoms? What needs to be ruled out before starting it?
How should we approach treatment when the kitten has persistent symptoms despite several courses of medication? Is prolonged antiviral treatment ever necessary under veterinary supervision?
When would it be safe to start her vaccinations?
I am not looking to medicate her based on random internet advice. I want to understand what could be going on and what investigations I should discuss with a good veterinarian. I have already changed vets several times and am struggling to know what the next sensible step is.
Veterinarians, especially those experienced with feline herpesvirus, chronic rhinitis and ophthalmology, I would really appreciate your input.

Cerenia for car sickness?

Hello,

In a couple weeks we are moving my very anxious and carsick cat across the country. Because it will be 3 days of constant travel and she historically does not do well with car rides, I'm wondering if anyone can share their experience with cerenia?

We keep our girl in a large kennel that is tightly fastened with a litter box and a place to lay. Our cat tends to cry for the first ten minutes, vomit and use the bathroom, and then quiets down for several hours after. Though she does vomit a couple more times usually as well as heavily drools. I'm assuming this is carsickness more than it is anxiety.

I'm beside myself with absolute anxiety about her taking this medication because I've seen horror stories, so just want to know if I should be wary or if anyone has good stories of their cat's experience. My girl is 10, still quite active, with mild allergies and asthma.

Thanks

Help I think I’ve accidentally been starving my cat

Age: 3 years old
Type: Munchkin
Weight: 5.5kg/12 lbs (he’s large boned big boy) Neutered: Yes
Food: Royal canine S/O prescription urinary care

He was recently at the vet and has no health problems. I’ve been giving him four tablespoons a day of the dry food. Because following the guide I thought that would equal to the 65 grams a day. But then I googled and the ai assistant thing came up and said i was starving him.

I want to cry i feel like the worst person in the world. i researched so much and i had been told before four tablespoons is enough. my small girl cat 3.3kg girl gets the same and she doesn’t always finish so i thought i was doing the right thing.

How much am i supposed to give him? I am going to go try to find a food scale and go by weight. But if i fill a measuring cup to 175 milliliters is that the right amount?

Please be kind he’s my first cat and i love him more than life and he has everything he could dream of. He is very pampered. This was an honest mistake I want to correct.

11 week old kitten has loose stools NSFW

Hello!

I recently adopted my 11-week-old kitten, Miley, from the animal shelter on October 10th, 2026. She has had soft stools ever since we brought her home, and after looking at the records the shelter gave us, I noticed she had a tapeworm infection and often had “cow pie” or soft stools while she was in foster care in September. She was treated for tapeworms, spayed, and given Revolution for fleas.

When I brought her to her first appointment with my vet on October 14th, they did a stool sample, and she tested positive for tapeworms but negative for other parasites. She also tested negative for feline leukemia.

On October 17th, they gave her praziquantel, and 24 hours later, she had 6 episodes of diarrhea. I brought her back to the vet the next day, and they gave her fluids, an anti-diarrhea medication, and a prescription for GI support food.

She weighed 2.89lbs at her appointment on the 14th. But after the diarrhea episodes she weighed 2.88lbs on the 19th. The vet said she should be gaining more weight but I’m thinking it could be the worms that are causing her to not gain as fast?

It’s been 2 days, and the diarrhea is gone, but her stools are still soft and frosting-like. At the shelter, she was eating Fancy Feast kitten wet food and Hill’s Science Diet kitten kibble, which I continued giving her for the first week with us. Now she is on Royal Canin GI Kitten dry and wet food and eats 4 times a day.

She is super playful, eats well, and drinks her water. I’m feeling frustrated and just want to get her stools to be more firm. Any advice is appreciated!

Hello community. This cat, not sure male or female, has a swollen belly. I doubt it's pregnant but not sure. It keeps on coming on the door meowing for food. Can anyone please tell if it's pregnant or maybe having some other health problems?

Is this asthma or coughing ? NSFW

She’s a big cat I know Im working on getting her on a feeding schedule to help lose weight. She’s 6 years old. This hasn’t been happening until more recently, wondering if it’s an environmental thing. But it’ll last 30 seconds to 2 minutes sometimes. Afterwards when I attend to her after her pur sounds louder like raspy ish. The room she’s in a lot of the time also has her litter box in it. I know it’s not ideal but messed up living situation. But that’s also changed recently .

Cat help- bloody mucus looking substance on cats poop

Hi everyone,
I’ve recently noticed a bright red bloody mucus looking substance on my cat’s poop sometimes when she poops. At first I thought maybe she was just constipated and straining too hard but I’ve noticed it 3 times now and this last time her poop seems normal(not dry/hard or runny/diarrhea). I’ve since done a bit of Googling and it seems maybe it’s GI inflammation. I am unsure. I’m not opposed to a vet and will absolutely take her if I need to.

At the moment she just eats Diamond Care Weight Management because I have another cat who is a glutton and blows up like a balloon if we feed them anything else.
Their food is left out constantly and she paces herself well. Never overindulges or starves herself.

She seems completely fine. As active as ever and doesn’t seem to be sick, in pain, or bothered by anything. She’s still my happy little lady!

Any advice would be welcome but please be kind!
Thanks!

Hey everybody 👋 noticed this sore on my cats chin a few days ago, it doesn’t seem to be bothering him or hurting him. Just curious as to what it possibly could be. It apparently had bled because I wiped the dried blood off of his fur. Thanks for any advice!

Switched cat food fast

I made the mistake of switching my 10 months old kittens food too fast and now she has diarrhea. Ever since she was a baby she has only ever ate Friskies and two days ago I realized that she was basically out of friskies so I had to buy the next best option Pet-pro gato for Cats and Kitten. She was enjoying it then I realized that she has diarrhea today, her stool is wet, runny and mushy. It still has shape but it's so unlike her. I think it's because of the food change though, she was spayed two weeks ago hence my worry.

I'm planning on getting Friskies as soon as I go on the road but would that in a sense affect her more since she has started eating Pet-pro Grato

Kitten UTI?

My 16 yr old son's best friend Demarcus Wayne the 3rd is 11 weeks old.

Yesterday he was straining in the litter box and crying. I assumed he was constipated and gave him Fortiflora in his canned food and added water so he would drink more to help out. Seemed ok, playing and having fun attacking my dogs.

This morning my son came in at 6 am with his kitten covered in urine and crying. We got him washed up and fluffed again. When I was holding him I saw pus coming out of his penis.

I called my vet as soon as they opened and they said they are booking into November but may have an opening tomorrow afternoon and wouls call me by 11 am to let me know.

If they cant i will be calling the other clinics I have relationships with and asking for help.

My normal clinic cant do emergency right now because the owner had a stroke and he was the after hours guy! The closest emergency clinic is 3 hours one way and has a 500.00 emergency fee before they even look at your pet.

In the meantime. I pulled his dry food. He was eating free choice Iams kitten formula dry, and a can of Fancy Feast each morning. I have both a fountain for water as well as a bowl of still water for the cats.

He is not quite 2 lbs right now and isnt big enough to neuter, so he is still intact. I normally neuter when they are 6-8 months old.

If anyone has any ideas I would so appreciate it. I did put water in his canned food and pulled the dry food. My adult cats are mainly raw/canned fed. D-Wayne was being fed the Iams kitten by the family we adopted him from. My thinking was trying to flush his bladder would help.

Flea and tick prevention

My cats (about 1 year old now) have outside time, in our small fenced in yard, since they were originally strays. I’m trying to figure out what flea and tick prevention is recommended and effective. Please let me know! 🦟🌱

Where do pee clumps go in an automatic litter box?

It's easy to understand how a self-cleaning litter box collects solid waste, but pee clumps seem trickier. A clump needs enough time to form before a rake or rotating separator moves it, and different types of litter probably behave differently. If a clump breaks apart during cleaning, some of it could stay mixed with the clean litter instead of reaching the waste compartment. I'm trying to understand how this normally works rather than assume every automatic box handles litter the same way. How can owners tell whether pee clumps are actually being removed cleanly?

Cats hide everything until the bloodwork, so I'm reading cat insurance for the diagnostics side

Our 7 year old cat acted completely normal until the day she didn't, and the workup was bloodwork, urinalysis and an ultrasound before anyone treated anything. She's fine now. That visit took most of an afternoon and I spent it reading the itemized bill line by line, which is how I learned what a urinalysis costs. The kitten arriving in November is getting a policy from day 1, and I'm comparing Fetch Pet, Pumpkin, Figo and Healthy Paws on diagnostics. How do you even compare that line?

Absess advice

Hi all,

My cat had an absess drained yesterday. He got an antibiotic jab and now has 2 antibiotics per day and a dose of Metacam plus a clean with pads.

The absess has gotten really big again and is still weeping but its also really hard.

It's pretty stinky still, and he's very miserable.

I've had cats with absess issues before but I've never seen one go so hard.

Shall I call my vet in the morning?

Many thanks

What is this? NSFW

For context, I think this came out of my cats ear. He has been to the vet several times. He's been battling an upper respiratory issue, on antibiotics, on antivirals. He had an ear infection that they tested, and we put him on a topical in ear antibiotic. Nothing has made him better. Today, I started him back in the on ear antibiotic, animax. He flipped his head and I believe this came out, but I did not see it until later. It looks like it has eyes. He does go outside mainly supervised. He has not been very active in the past two weeks and he is 13. He is treated with feline bravecto.

Cat allergies or something else? NSFW

Post image
2 Upvotes

My cat has been really itchy in this one spot and i noticed she started scabbing there from scratching so much. Shes on flea and tick medication, it doesn’t seem like ring worm cause there’s no hair loss or ring/ circle, her ears also have no smell or weird color so I feel like it may be a food allergy? She eats a fully raw diet and has a rotation of different proteins every couple days from turkey to pork to rabbit and beef. I am not sure how to start investigating if it is a food allergy or something else??? I have an air purifier running 24/7 for dander and dust.

Has anyone seen anything like this before under their cat’s chin?

My husband just found this tonight and we hope it’s nothing serious! Will ring vets to get it checked just to be sure.

I wonder if it’s just from scratching and itching repeatedly? Any advice or suggestions welcome :)

13 year old with possible ibd or lymphoma

i brought my 13 year old kitty into urgent care last week after she had been having diarrhea for a few days and had a good amount of blood in her stool the day i brought her in. the diarrhea was initially caused by a food change. we did blood work, a fecal test, and a test for pancreatitis, which came back with nothing except for slight indications of hyperthyroidism and slightly elevated sdma levels. vet chalked it up to being the food change and gave me metronidazole and proviable-forte to manage symptoms. she had one solid poop a few days after our visit but diarrhea otherwise (no blood). she’s been acting completely normal throughout all of this. eating and drinking fine, not hiding, acting like herself, and no vomiting (except for driving there and back, she always gets a little car sick).

i brought her back in today for some further testing since she was still experiencing symptoms. vet did an x-ray as well as a t4 test. x-rays show small intestinal and colonic thickening which indicates either ibd or lymphoma. i am taking my kitty back in tomorrow for an ultrasound to see if we can figure out more. vet said we could possibly need a biopsy.

what are your experiences with this? any advice? i am kind of freaking out

Question about my old cat?

So a few years back maybe 4 or so my Male Tabby started getting seizures occasionally and we took him into the vet, got him Phenobarbital and after a few weeks, we took him off it and his seizures just stopped all the way until he passed away. My question is, why or how could have his seizures just stopped even without giving him medication? Obviously it was probably neurological but I’m curious if anyone has any ideas as to what may have caused them, and why they ended up stopping after awhile?

Cat not eating after vet visit

Did anyone face a similar situation?

My senior cat went for a review and after the vet consultation, she's been especially picky with food and over the next few days just lick gravy, nibble on some kibbles but does enjoy her churu and party mix .

She was eating well prior to the vet consultation..i took her in for an idexx blood test as a review of her ckd.

DAY 0 : vet visit

Day 1: sad, ate less

Day 2: ate very well for breakfast but got picky for dinner.

DAY 3: Picky

\\>

\\>

DAY 8: Eating lesser and lesser.

I contacted the vet who prescribed miratax, antacid and anti nausea. She even suggested maybe change vet if my cat feels so mood?

Anyone faced this situation of pickiness?

I'm so vexed..i've been throwing away as many as 5 to 6 cans of food daily because i'm offering her different foods begging her to eat.

Cat won't eat regular food

USA

Have not contacted a vet yet

Cat: 12 yo neutered female

Can afford vet care

Main issue: Hey, for the past few weeks I've (35m) been feeding my cat two types of wet food as we try to transition her from one to the other. I was feeding her 1/8 of one can 3/4 of the other once per day in addition to dry food. However I didn't realize your not supposed to use opened cat food that's been in the fridge for more than 2-3 days so I've been feeding her some cat food that's been in the fridge for up to 8 days.

Over the past few weeks she's been occasionally throwing up about once a week.

Four days ago she turned her nose up at the wet food and seemed to stop eating the dry food too. We've been having trouble getting her to eat wet food now, she only eats a few bites at most. We've tried heating up her wet food.

She still eats churu and treats but not more than a little regular wet or dry food. We're concerned she's not getting enough calories. Have I given her a bad taste for wet food? Does she have some kind of stomach issue? Should we take her to the vet?

Dosage amount of Albon Suspension for 1 cat and 2 kittens for Coccidia?

My ultimate question is: Did all the cats get enough Albon Suspension to cure them of the Coccidia?

To be completely honest, we have been going to this vet clinic for almost 20 years now. But the vet who started the clinic sold it recently. There are so many new vets there and we never see the same one twice. I am struggling to tell myself that my pets are still getting the incredible care they used to get.

* Signalment (species, age, sex/neuter status, breed, body weight)

* 1 DSH cat, 18 years old, male/neutered, 4.9 kg/10.9 lbs

* 2 DSH cats, 4.5 months old, females/both spayed, 2.25 kg/5 lbs each

* Short history

* We recently adopted the 2 kittens from the local shelter. They were not litter mates.

* One of the kittens did have siblings that we did not adopt. Their mother feral, so the kittens had to be socialized with a foster. It was noticed that at least one of the kittens had blood in its stool while in foster, so the shelter treated all the kittens with Pyrantel Pamoate, VetriMega Probiotic, and Panacur. It was assumed all the kittens were healthy when we adopted them.

* We noticed last Monday (October 12) there was some poo in the litterbox with a small amount of blood in it. We scheduled a vet appointment (October 15) for all 3 cats, and took stool samples in.

* The vet looked at the medicines the one kitten was given in the shelter and decided the kittens probably had Coccidia since none of the medicines treated that.

* The vet prescribed Albon Suspension for all 3 cats.

* The kittens were prescribed 3 mls the first day (Thursday, October 15), and 2.5 mls every day thereafter until all the medicine was gone. We ran out last night (Sunday).

* The 18-year-old was prescribed 5 mls the first day (Thursday, October 15), and 2.5 mls every day there after until all the medicine was gone. We ran out tonight (Monday, October 19).

* When we got home from the vet, I went to Google to learn about Coccidia. Dr. Google agreed with the vet that Albon was the best medicine for treating Coccidia. However, Dr. Google said that they should be on it for 10-14 days. The kittens only got 4 days, and the old man only got 5 days.

* I called my vet today to make sure this was correct, and they said yes.

* I know Dr. Google can be very wrong sometimes, but I just need to know that it was enough, and they will be better with only 4-5 days' worth of medicine.

* Relevant clinical signs (vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, fever etc.)

* Small amounts of blood in the stool. Stool sample came back positive for Coccidia.

* Everyone is still eating and drinking well.

* Length of time you have seen these changes

* Saw the bloody stool on Monday night of last week (October 12).

* Links to any test results, vet reports, X-rays etc. that you have

* I don't have the results, but the clinic said the stool samples came back positive for Coccidia.

* Your general location

* Rocky Mountain region, USA.

Did all the cats get enough medicine to cure them of the Coccidia?

Thank you for any advice you can provide. I really appreciate it!
