UVB for a jungle carpet python

Hello,

I have a 1.4 year old jungle carpet python girl (seen in the pictures) that I've had for 2.5 months now as my first snake.

She is the sweetest and we've made huge steps with handling, since I managed to get her out for the first time after more than a month of having her, she's only struck and bit me once, when I kept touching her right behind her head when checking a weird looking scale. Otherwise she still gets stressed sometimes, especially when I go pick her up, after leaving her roam free for a bit, but for a species that is known to be a bit more defensive, especially when young, I feel like we have come a long way.

As for her care, except for the first week when I had to quickly fix up some things I missed in her enclosure, such as heat lamp cages having space around them for her to crawl into them and her eating a bit of the substrate with her first meal, everything seems to be going well, she managed to shed perfectly (as far as I can tell) a month ago, despite my struggles to keep her humidity consistently high enough (around the recommended 70%).

However, today when preparing her food, I wanted to lightly dust the mouse for her with some supplements I got when first buying stuff for her and when I was looking into how much should I use, I found out, that I really do not need supplements at all, as she should get everything she needs from her food and the UVB lighting, which I do not have. When researching what she needs before getting her, I obviously looked at multiple sources, but primarily used the ReptiFiles guide, as it seemed the best to me. In their guide, they said that while beneficial, it is not necessary to have the UVB lighting, so I took it as something I will probably eventually get, but isn't as important as other things, but from what I found now, it seems like something that is absolutely necessary.

I am someone who tends to stress out and overanalyze very small things, I've looked up a dozen of absolutely tiny unimportant things to make sure I was doing everything right and now I feel like I've neglected her and essentially need to order the UVB set ASAP, to not cause any further harm. But obviously, when looking up these things a lot of guides and sites tend to have largely different, sometimes conflicting advice and so I wanted to ask, before I really do anything, actual keepers about it.

How necessary is the UVB lighting, do I really need it and if so, can I still wait a bit before getting, or do I need to get it as fast as I can? And if I do need to get it, what type of UVB would you recommend and how far/close to her basking spot, or just her branches in general can I place it, for it to not be completely useless, but also not cause her any harm?

Thank you in advance for any advice and tips.

First Snake

Finally got our first snake! She is a baby carpet, father is a jungle and mother is a diamond. She was part of the bengal project from Moss Family Adventures. Currently in a small enclosure that they included when we bought her at the expo, but have a larger 4x2x4 enclosure to put her in when she gets a little bigger.

Hi all! I can confidently say I have a carpet python!

Now this story starts off sad with her having to come into my care due to landlords. A friend of mine had this gorgeous jungle carpet python named Maleficent. A neglected, burnt and retired animal educator snake so she's extremely gentle and sweet. He took her in as a rescue but the landlord found out about his rescue and asked for all of them to be moved or he will have them confiscated and euthanized.

In a panic he dropped off a bunch of ball pythons along with Mal. She immediately warmed up and took food like a champ. Here it's illegal to own them without the proper permit and microchip but after 4 months of trying, she's now officially legal and recognised as a permitted carpet python!

I hope to learn new things here and hope you all accept me as an owner too! I'm still learning the ropes since I've only been a corn snake and ball python owner so this is a step up but I'm willing to put in all the effort necessary and will be building her an enclosure.

Jungle Carpet Enclosure Upgrade

I am starting to plan an upgrade for my 3 y/o Jungle Carpet Python as he has officially outgrown his 14x14x32.

I want to go to a 2x2x4 (or larger if I can find a good quality one) PVC bioactive and am looking for design inspiration. I want to have many perching opportunities on the walls (cliffs, rope, etc), many climbing opportunities throughout, and hides (sky hide, caves?, etc).

Please post photos of your enclosures, give recommendations for enrichment and design tools, and more. Btw I have designed and built one bioactive enclosure for my ball python and learned a lot but am certainly still an amateur.

Jungle Carpet Python weight and prey

Hoping this community can help with this Jungle Carpet info! I have a had this guy for a year and a half and he has grown a lot, but trying to figure out the next feeding schedule. He is now 500 grams and eating 30-50 gram mice every week and is 2 years 4 months old.

Does this seem really under weight? Should I switch to rats? What size prey should he be at?

This is for my 7’4” female Carpet Python and I’ve had her in here for about a month with changes alone the way but this is how it looks now the basking is good at 95 degrees with tons of climbing and ground space with tons of real plants, but the vines are fake. She has been loving it and I did all this at 17 years old, I love my girl Covid ( yes that’s her name ) I had to spend 4k on all this except a vet things but all in all she loves it, and I’m so proud of myself

Is the snake the breeder told me was a girl actually a boy?

So my almost 3 year old coastal carpet python literally just finished shedding and I noticed what looked like hemipenis shed... The breeder showed me with a probe that she was a female and told me as much, but this makes me seriously second guess that verdict.

Can you guys confirm or deny my suspicion please 😭
