PSA Attempted Robbery of Cyclist Strand Street under N2

If you're a solo cyclist - avoid strand street under the N2. Someone ran into the street and tried to knock me off my bike and rob me this morning around 6:20. Luckily I was able to swerve past him. There was a second person hiding who came out when he tried to knock me off.

Question | Advice-Needed Where can I go for skincare/facial product advice?

So I go to Clicks a few months ago and I get this product, anti aging, toner, day cream spf and a night cream, the toner burned my skin, the night cream made me itch and I get these little pimples. So I used a scrub, used something else, been going through products and its just not compatible with my skin.... the itching is honestly the worst. So where can I actually get people who are knowledgeable with quality products? I really don't have the thousands to see a dermatologist.

Question | Advice-Needed Stag Do in CapeTown

We are going for a wedding in Cape Town in December and need to plan a stag do for the groom.

Many of the party are staying around the V&a.

On the day of the stag, most of the guys will be golfing in the morning. We were planning to go back to V&a for 2pm, have some drinks there and then go to casino and see where the night takes us. Maybe mavericks or a bar crawl around sea point. Most of the party will be from the UK.

Any advice on good bars in V&a? It will be on a Monday, so not sure if it will be lively? Open to other suggestions.

Much appreciated!

Question | Advice-Needed Medical Aid Advice

I grew up in a family that could never afford a medical aid so I don't really have much reference but I have been having some concerning symptoms (and in the past some fairly alarming blood test results) and it has made myself and my husband desperately want to visit the idea of me being added as a member to his family's medical/getting my own medical aid.

What are good options for Cape Town with regards to hospital cover? I know there is a year long wait for non emergency stuff but what else do you need to wait for? Thanks in advance for reading this/for any advice offered! 😊

Vent / Complaint SA vs Aus 3rd Test Ticket Prices

With the record low turnout at the Durban and Gqebs tests, surely you must lower the ticket prices for the Cape Town test.

A buddy of mine went to the Gqebera test for R160 a ticket. That is a fair price, even R250 is fair price. But 500 Buffalos is a bit of a stretch.

Cricket South Africa, please hear our calls.

Question | Advice-Needed Wifi/cell service

My cell phone doesn't work in my flat - I have to go outside to talk on the phone or use WhatsApp but I need to be reachable in case of emergency. What is the cheapest way to do this? I read that Mifi might be an option, or are there any cheap wifi providers I can get set up? Thanks for your help.

General Discussion Wynberg DHA Passport Collection

Making this post because other posts were so useful to me:

- was standing to the queue by 6.30. Be sure to go straight to the parking lot queue. If you are facing the entrance to the escalator, on the far right.

- collection queue was separated out into a new queue. I was then ~15th in th queue. Stood here for about an hr.

- at 8 they let us up into the mall, sat & waited here. Was then about ~9th in the queue. But they take priority (pensioners, disability, etc) first so you wait for a while here. [i.e. if you are a pensioner or disabled or pregnant I think you’re fine coming any time no need to queue]

- out by 8.45

If anyone knows of some 2nd hand shops that might have or have a contact getting rid of them I would be most grateful. I am based in the Muizenberg area but can travel a bit if needed.

Question | Advice-Needed Divorce Mediation

My wife and I have been married for 14 years and have a 6 year old son. We are in the process of divorcing and it is quite amicable. We are trying to figure out parenting arrangements and someone recommended we visit a mediator. Has anyone had any experience using a mediator in CT? How much do they cost? Do we need to use one or could we just fugure it out ourselves?

Question | Advice-Needed Uber vs rental car for 1 week in Cape Town? Daily Century City ↔ Tygerberg Hospital trips

Hi everyone,

I’ll be staying in Century City for a week in February and I’m trying to decide whether it would be better to rent a car at Cape Town Airport or just use Uber for the whole stay.

The main consideration is that my wife needs to be at Tygerberg Hospital every day, so my routine will basically be:

  • Century City → Tygerberg Hospital to drop her off
  • Tygerberg → Century City
  • Century City → Tygerberg again to pick her up
  • Tygerberg → Century City

So essentially two round trips every day for a week, plus normal trips for sightseeing, restaurants, etc.

A few things that make me hesitate about renting:

  • I have never driven in South Africa
  • I have never driven on the left-hand side
  • I’m not familiar with Cape Town traffic, roads or parking
  • On the other hand, with 4 Uber trips every day just for the hospital, I wonder if renting would be much more practical/cheaper

For people familiar with Cape Town, what would you recommend in my situation?

Uber for the whole week, or rent a car from CPT airport?

I’d especially appreciate thoughts on traffic between Century City and Tygerberg, safety, parking, Uber availability, and how difficult driving there would be for someone driving on the left for the first time.

Thanks!

Transportation Query Is the train safe?

I’m looking to take the train from Stellenbosch, which would be (I think) the northern line and get off around Salt River or take a connection to Observatory. I’m a first year varsity student from Joburg and I’ve never taken it before so I want to gauge wether or not I’ll be safe to take my laptop in my back pack

Looking For... Looking for affordable dental care please =(

Hi guys,

I broke my tooth earlier a few months ago.

I don't have medical aid and I think I really need to sort this tooth out as a lot of blood suddenly came out when I was brushing my teeth this morning.

Can someone recommend me a dentist that hopefully won't break the bank but is still going to do a quality job?

Maybe if you can give me a ballpark of how much it'd be to fix a broken tooth, although I know that's not a simple ask.

I was also thinking of using the UWC dental clinic.

Help will be appreciated!!
