Can't get a reply here? Try r/ComputerBuild

Hey everyone,

This sub has been growing a lot as of recently and we've noticed a lot of posts have been getting buried and unanswered. There is a lot of noise due to how much it has grown.

I have created r/ComputerBuild as an alternative.

So please kindly try cross posting there to get it off the ground.

I will be helping users daily and also building a mod team/looking for moderators to help.

Thanks!

Looking for a New Gaming Monitor

Old monitor broke, so looking for a new one. My GPU is a RTX 4060 and my desk has space for around a 20-30 inch screen. I mostly play single player games (Red Dead, Elden Ring etc) and games like Helldivers 2. My budget is around $200-$300 AUD. I know nothing about this stuff so happy to answer questions or specify anything.

Need advice on the upgrade

Hello,

I've been somewhat out of the loop with the current state of pc hardware and need some help as to what would be the most optimal upgrade to my current build:

i5-10400F 2.9GHz

Corsair Vengance 16GB (2x 8GB)

MSI RX 580 8GB

Samsung SSD 860 EVO 250GB

Seagate 1tb hdd (12 years old)

Thermaltake

The requirement is for it to be able to run Davinci Resolve and After Effects smoothly with no stuttering and modern games like BG3 or Resident Evil 4 Remake on medium settings as a bonus

My budget is $700

Thank you

Help with my first build

I recently acquired an rtx 3060 12gb and some RAM. I put together this build on pcpartpicker: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LWtBzv

But im unsure if all the parts ive picked work well together or there are alternatives which are much better for cheaper or for not much more.

My budget for parts besides the RAM and GPU is 600$ CAD, and im located in Montreal. I also already own a monitor and k+m. Any help would be appreciated!

Other / >$1400 PC for 1440p 60fps Linux Gaming <2000$ (8000PLN)

I planned on waiting til the next year, but seeing that a guide with template builds from a month and a half ago has all the builds at and around my budget 500$ more expensive now than then, it may be in my interest to hurry up?

Additional points:

  • I have a 2TB SSD in my current laptop that i can and will take with me, peripherals are also covered, including screens.
    • Also, the laptop has 2x8gb DDR4 sticks, though i have no idea if they are as easy to incorporate into the new PC so tell me.
  • I am from and living in Poland, so if any polish builders have any country specific tips or savings, would be great
  • 3 monitors are in play - the main one is 1440p with 165Hz, and i have two 1080p on the sides:
    • I do play competitive multiplayer, so making use of the 165Hz in games like CS2, Deadlock, The Finals is a goal, don't need ultra graphics, medium should suffice. No stutters is important, the 1% lows i get nowadays are painful.
    • Any other modern games, 60fps is good enough.
    • I need enough RAM, or CPU, to have other apps on the 2 remaining monitors - i cannot play a YT video on the side while gaming, the resources it takes makes my games run horribly.
  • I also record all my gameplay with medal, an overlay for clipping and stuff, so if any parts are a good priority for recording and stuff, point that out!
  • I wanna try Linux Mint, as i am growing discontent with Windows, and i finally see it getting productivity app parity, and it's meant to be more performant thanks to the efforts of microsoft (lol).
  • Overclocking im willing to dabble in if needed, but would prefer not to.
  • I am looking for long term use, so upgradability is necessary.

Building my first PC

Looking to finally join the master race.. i'm going for a build that can run games on max settings with high framerates and the budget it about 3-4K. Plan on trying to stream and will be playing WoW Forever, MW4, and GTA 6.

I'm having a hard time deciding on the graphics card I was thinking about a 5070TI but the 5080 is comparable in price.

The CPU is another hard one the Ryzen 7 9800X3D seems like the most optimal choice with the ability to upgrade to a Ryzen 9 later on if I need it for the workload demand.

Not really sure if I need 64GB of DDR5-6000 but thinking 32 would be a good starting point since I can always add more down the road.

I've never built a PC before, but i'd be down to try or would even be willing to take a chance on a pre-built if anyone happens to know a reputable site?

Thanks in advance!

Help my GF build a new PC

Looking for some advice on a new PC build. The one she has now is showing its age a bit and struggles to hit 60fps on her games at this point.

Budget around £1,500 - £2,000
Country - UK
Windows OS
Peripherals - only monitor
Storage requirements - at least 1.5TB
Bonus - we live very close to a SCAN

Requirements - Budget allowing, either something that can play at over 60fps smoothly, or up to 1440p gaming - with the budget in question and the prices at the moment I reckon this will be an either/or scenario!

Just looking for a smoother experience gaming above all as well and the ability to play some newer games although doesn’t have to be at max specs.

Some games as a benchmark:
- Witcher 3 remaster
- Subnautica 2
- Sims 3 with about 10,000 mods installed :)
