NEW VIEWER - No spoilers please! Is Buffy the Vampire Slayer worth watching?

• Upvotes

hey guys! i recently asked around for good teen mystery shows and someone recommended buffy the vampire slayer, so i wanted to know if it's worth watching 👀

i'm really into shows with small-town mysteries, an og friend group, supernatural stuff, teen drama, and that whole weird things happening in a seemingly normal town vibe.

does buffy have that kind of feel? are the characters and friendships good? i know it's an older show, but does it still hold up?

no spoilers pls!! just wanna know if i should give it a try 🫶

Spoilers inside! Who's Contribution to the fight against evil in the Buffyverse is most overlooked by fans.

For Buffy, I would say Xander. While most people do give him his props for preventing the apocalypse in S6, there's a bit of a tendancy by some fans to dismiss him as useless most of the time in spite of him being instrumental in stopping multiple threats like the Master and the Judge as well as the amount of times he's successfully saved another character despite his disadvantages as non powered being. I suspect this is partly because he's not as well liked as other heroes in this fandom.

For Angel, I would say Gunn for similar reasons. Despite not being a powered being, he still risks his life to fight vampires and unlike most of the team in that series started from altruism rather than guilt over anything terrible he'd done. He also saved all of LA in the first episode of ATS S5 but no-one seems to talk about it. Unlike Xander, I don't think this is because fans dislike him but more because he's never really as prevalent as Angel, Cordelia or Wesley.

Costume Halloween costume

Hi everyone! I want to dress up as a vampire slayer for Halloween. I know where to find everything except for a stake. I need to find something affordable because I’m on a low budget, but I haven’t found anything cheap, and I also live in Europe so some stores either don’t ship here or shipping costs a lot.

If anyone has any links to an affordable stake prop or knows how I can safely make one at home, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Introspective First time watcher

I recently started watching for the first time ever so no spoilers please.
I’m almost done with season two and… why do the jump scares actually get me? Not sure how horrible props, costumes, and old ass effects from the 90s are getting me, but it makes me laugh every time (after I scream) I have to play on my phone while I watch because I genuinely get spooked. Idk maybe it’s my genz brain.
On S2 EP18 as I type this :D

Spoilers inside! Oz and Riley are the only love interests in the opening credits who leave before the season ends

Something I noticed about Buffy is that Oz and Riley are the only main cast members who were love interests and left the show in the middle of a season.

Oz leaves in Season 4's "Wild at Heart" while Riley leaves in Season 5's "Into the Woods"

I just find it interesting that Willow and Buffy's respective boyfriends had such similar exits from the show, especially since most other main cast departures happened toward the end of a season.

In her Hansel and Gretel monologue, her voice seems bang on Drusilla.

Music Any NYC Buffy fans for Nov 5?

I can no longer attend the Once More with Feeling 25th anniversary show performance organized by Littlefield. I know they won't do refunds but tried to ask them if they had a waitlist (it's a sold out event) with no reply.

I got two VIP tickets and I'll take anything I can get for them, even if it's less than what I paid ($100 US). It's supposed to be for charity so not looking for more than what I paid, but I also don't want them to go to waste, so I would literally give them away if we reach that day and no one wants them.

One caveat: I am Canadian, so etransfering might be a bit complicated, but I'm sure we can work something out.

Music Songs that Feel Buffyverse to You?

Anyone know about "Buffy (She's the Slayer)" by Velvet Chain? I was looking for songs that feel like the Buffy soundtrack other then the ones actually in it (I made a playlist with every song in the show, unfortunately, it's private). And found this while going through Velvet Chain since "Treason" and "Strong" are in the show.

Admittedly, this was awhile back from last year when I thought this but I thought I would ask it now.

Season Five Weirdest Moments From Buffy the Vampire Slayer

There are a ton of weird things that happen on this show. What are some of the weirdest moments you can think of? I'll go first: Spike having Warren make a Buffy bot in season five is by far the weirdest thing and it always gives me the ick.

Spoilers inside!

Fan Art THE SLAYER

THE SLAYER | Fan art I did. It's not really set at any point in the series, taking elements from across the show. I worried that I rushed this artwork, but at the end of the day it was an experiment.

Season Six Did buffy ‘start’ the bury your gays trope?

Even though I’ve been a fan of buffy my whole life, I’ve only recently interacted with the fandom. I keep seeing people saying that buffy started many common tv tropes.
The only one that really comes to mind is Tara dying, hence the start of the bury your gays trope. What do y’all think? Cause I understand the story arc, but I can’t help but think it was kind of to the detriment of the lgbt+ community? Or has there been instances before/after buffy that you think may have influenced this?

Vampires The reason for loving Darla is simple

There isn't a vampire I do not like. But OG Darla from the first season is so good. Julie Benz was the first woman vampire in the Buffy-verse. And its not a lie, she IS the first vampire on the show. She had to learn how to talk with the prosthetics and makeup. She was a mirror image of Buffy just had less screen time; she had the wit she had the one liners... she brought guns to a stake fight. Perfect vampire. I really wish we could see her grow out of her role in the first season and not be thrusted into her spinoff role in Angel. When watching Buffy for the first time I could not get over how good she was. Thoughts?

Good Vibes Only Have you ever had a Buffy compliment?

When the show was on I didn't watch it. But I was a Montessori teacher, Upper Elementary, which means a 4th - 6th grade mixed classroom and I swear they were all Buffy fans. All the girl's had a Tara part in their hair. The boys loved "Out for a walk, Bitch!" We even had a Xander in class.

I can't recall why, but I was looking at one of the boys, over my glasses, waiting with a dubious expression, when he got all excited and told me I was just like Giles! After that, a good portion of the class referred to me as Giles.

Of course, since I hadn't watched the show yet, I didn't realize what a huge compliment that was. Now I treasure the memory.

So, has anyone else gotten a nice Buffy centered compliment?
