My budgie has been doing this since yesterday.

Is this vomiting? I got them less than a month ago. Will be taking her to the vet tomorrow morning. I’ve separated her from my other budgies. she’s done this thrice since yesterday.

Other What is "blowing" in show budgies?

Budgies can relax and tense up their crown, causing the feathers to fan and fluff out. This impressive display is a lot more prominent in Exhibition budgerigars whose crown feathers have more length than their wild counterparts.

In a nutshell, head feathers fluffing out demonstrating a frontal rise is what us exhibitors call blowing. Bigger and nicer the blow, more impressed the judges tend to be with our birds. Whoever shows off the best tends to win a lot of points!

Please allow Sparrow, Elwood and Butters to demonstrate a blow in order of best display to average.

I posted about our girl Jewel not long ago, we’ve finally got a second budgie.
This lovely fella (fingers crossed) is Nico.

Please tell me I was right in picking out a boy XP
Also I’m curious as to what color morph he may be?
He’s currently sitting in a quarantine cage in the room next to Jewel’s.

Question Is this an okay starter home for budgies? ( will decorate! )

Post image

I’m a beginner budgie owner and got this at a yard sale. I’m going to decorate it with toys and perches, but I was wondering if it’s okay as a temporary home for them. I recently found 2 abandoned and they were in a tiny cage much like ones you’d put a Guinea pig in… I’ll save for a bigger one if needed but saw this at a yard sale today. Is it alright?

💬 Discussion Struggling to tame my pair (9m female & 6m male) — advice needed

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m having a hard time taming/training my two budgies, and I could really use some advice from experienced owners.

  • Female (blue and white): 9 months old
  • Male (white): 6 months old

Here is the situation: The male will land on my hand only if I stretch it out to him. The female rarely lands on me, and when she does, she immediately tries to fly away.

When they are together, both of them become much more hesitant around my hands. Their default reaction is to fly up to the top of the wardrobe or bookcase to keep their distance from me.

What puzzles me is that I’ve had them for months, and earlier on, they were actually more friendly and allowed me to pet them a bit. Lately, however—especially the female—they are constantly looking for ways to get away from me.

Could you share any tips or step-by-step advice on how I can re-train them, rebuild trust, and get them more comfortable around me?

I miss them a lot. I always mourn the fact that our time together have been short but they were so very loved. I'm trying to remember them in every way I can, and drawing them is one way I can do so.

Which sex? Are my birds boys or girls?

I have 4 cuties, the yellow one is named Cloud and he is about 3 years old, the blue one by him is named Spot. Then the very white and blue one is named Sparks and the last one is named Sgaeyl. I have had spot for about 5 months and Sparks and Sgaeyl have been with us for a few weeks now. I just am not sure if they are boys or girls and I was just curious if anyone had some opinions that they would share with me. Thank you!

Question Do birds need that light lamp thing above them?

I had gotten one a while ago, but it freaked my birds out so much that I guess I just put it away, but is there really a good benefit to having a giant light blasting at them? They’re in a room that gets a little natural lighting, but not much since it faces north.
I can’t imagine it’s good for their eyes either
