Local Advice needed Independent Pubs of Brighton (and surrounds) MEGA THREAD
After the announcement of surge pricing in Laine pubs and finding out who actually owns them and just how many of our establishments they own I thought it'd be a nice idea to have a list of pubs in Brighton that are independent. Ones that are free of the B.S. of several layers of 'financial arrrangements' obscuring where our beer tokens are going. Maybe one day we can have a little map in our pockets to refer to when our guard may be down because it's cold and windy outside or we have had a few, we can take a quick look and find an establishment near by that we want to support to prevent them turning into another chain pub without anyone really noticing.

Announcement Maternal mental health in pregnancy study
Hello Brighton Community:)
I hope it would be OK to post it here ๐
Iโm a trainee psychologist working in the NHS Maternity and Neonatal Psychological Intervention Service. Iโm currently looking for pregnant participants for non profit study on wellbeing and anxiety during pregnancy. This is an important area of maternal mental health where more research is needed. The findings may help us better understand the psychological factors linked with antenatal anxiety and how mental health support during pregnancy could be improved.
The study has received sponsorship and ethical approval from the University of Edinburgh.Ethics Committee Reference: 25-26CLPS111
If you have some time to spare or know someone who has, the study involves completing a short, anonymous online survey which takes around 20 minutes. If you would like to take part, please click the link below:
https://edinburgh.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_dmrLWMfpa4aV4Kq
If you have any questions, you are more than welcome to email me at [M.Domka@sms.ed.ac.uk](mailto:M.Domka@sms.ed.ac.uk) or [magdalena.domka@nhs.scot](mailto:magdalena.domka@nhs.scot)
Thank you so much for supporting pregnancy and maternal mental health research ๐ท๐

Transport/Parking ๐ ๐ When are trains to and from London more empty?
Hi,
I have an ankle injury, and I am travelling from London to Brighton. I use crutches. I should be able to get a seat because of my disability, but it would be good if the trains are empty.
I am willing to use any of the services like Thameslink, Southern or Gatwick Express. I will stay at a hotel in Brighton for a few days, so I have flexibility to travel at any time during the day.
I also considered taking a taxi, but somehow the journey feels safer in a train. Not to mention, it's much faster by train.

Local Advice needed Shampoo doesn't work good here but does in equally hard water other areas?
Hi,
Does anyone know why certain shampoo's work in other equally hard water in fact harder than here areas but they don't seem to work here as in they don't clean the oil out of your hair? I just wanted to know to see if there was a certain type of ingredient I needed?
edit: I also have a water softer as i suspected maybe it was that and now its definitely soft but the same happens is it something in the water or the way its treated? This happens even with sulfate products and body washes except a few
Thank you

Local Advice needed CBT on a semi auto
I need to renew my CBT before heading to Asia and I'm no good with manuelle motorbikes, too much noise before changing gear! I also hate automatics having dropped one, I have the scars to prove it and don't fancy any more. I want to take it on a Honda Innova (or similar Yamaha/Suzuki etc) because they are what I know and like.
Do you know of somewhere that can do this? Thank you

Local Advice needed Hire vans that aren't averse to a few scuffs - house renovation
Am trying to work out how to get renovation waste (wood, concrete, ricks, window etc) from my house to the tip without a car, and the man with a van prices are quite high: don't get me wrong I understand it's not without cost but I'm on a very tight budget. Most hire vans are (understandably) keen to keep them in good condition, but there must be something out there?

Announcement Passionate about helping animals? Our farm sanctuary is looking for local businesses that could donate a prize for our "Hug a Sheep Day" event soon. Could you help?
Hi folks! Are you an animal lover and interested in helping a local, volunteer-red animal rescue non-profit?
I volunteer for a local farm sanctuary called Lotus Lamb & Animal Sanctuary. We rescue farm animals that have been surrendered or abandoned by farmers for various reasons... illness, disability, or occasionally the odd animal that has escaped! This means they live out the rest of their lives feeling saved, loved and free with us. โค๏ธ
We are running a "Hug a Sheep Day" (tickets here) event on Sat 31st Oct and Sunday 1st November, and part of this will include a raffle. I'm looking for things we can offer as prizes, with 100% of all raffle proceeds going to the sanctuary.
Would any local businesses be willing to donate a prize? This could include:
- Actual items e.g. a food hamper, beauty products, fancy chocolate/ tea/ coffee, etc.
- Vouchers for your business, e.g. ยฃ30 towards any products, a treatment if you're a beauty salon, a meal for 2 if you're a restaurant.
As the sanctuary is vegan run, any prizes that are food/beauty related would need to be plant-based. But if you are, for example, a beauty company that has a few non-vegan products, you could offer a voucher or one of your vegan products.
You would be helping a really good cause - winter is a difficult time of year and the animals need things such as hay, food and vaccinations.
So please let me know by commenting on this post or sending me a DM if you are able to offer anything or know someone who might and that I could reach out to. โค๏ธ
We would also obviously promote your business on the day by providing information alongside the raffle prize.
Thank you :)

Local Advice needed Cypriot Greek tutors
Are there any tutors in Brighton or sussex area who teach Cypriot Greek dialect? I have had some Greek classes so understand the basics but want to learn more of this specific dialect. Ideally face to face lessons or tutoring would be best but I am open to online. I am also open to even standard Greek lessons in person. Iโve looked at the greek school at the orthodox church but my concern is the year has already begun. Iโve found a number of online tutors but face to face is preferred.

Local Advice needed Brighton Fan here (of the city and the club) from India
Hello. I am from India, and am a huge fan of the city and the football club (yes, the only indian Brighton fc fan). I have been following Brighton FC since 2021. Now I am 24 and am seriously considering moving to Brighton and settling there. Which university in and around UK is the best for an international student to land a job in Brighton. I have work experience in marketing (script writing/ meta ads)and consulting. Also have a Gmat score of 615 (superscore 655). I can get into colleges like Insead or Essec, but genuinely thinking of settling in Brighton hence asking for reccos. Help me out if you can or know someone who can help.
