Encouragement/Solidarity Does anyone EBF and NOT cosleep?

I feel like everyone in this sub cosleeps, are there any mothers out there who don’t?! Absolutely no shade to cosleeping, just seems like EBF and cosleeping are branded inevitable here. Wondering if there are others like me who strictly don’t.

The way he pulls and bites on my nipples is so so painful. My nipples are sore, cracked, and so painful, I cannot express that enough.

He poked his fingers in my eye and scratched me on my boob and face. I wonder how his nail grows in just 2 days.

I don't know why I decided to change his diaper at 4am. As soon as i opened it, he pissed, unlike ever. My side of the bed is entirely wet, he was wet, i was wet. And then he wanted to turn wetting himself and me in the process.

I shouted at him several times at night. Even shrugged him away. He started crying. I don't know how to manage this rage at night. I'm losing my mind. I'm so sleep deprived that one night of lesser sleep makes me crazy. I don't know if it's sleep deprivation or the pain from breastfeeding that is making me this way.

I'm failing as a mother and as a human being. I miss xxx (my husband) so much.

P.S. My husband is on a work trip. And I'm staying with my in law's at the moment. They never understand me and it causes immediate frustration when they say "we never needed so much sleep during our time"

Troubleshooting/Tips Magnesium helping with letdowns

This has helped so much I wanted to share in case someone is having similar issues.

Some backstory. My LO is nearly 8 months, and about 3 weeks ago stopped sleeping more than 4 hours at a time (usually up every two, and sometimes for a while). My husband and I are both working. I'm pumping and breastfeeding. I have also had a head cold turned nasty sinus infection.

Basically, it's been a rough stretch and I have been really feeling the sleep deprivation this time more than previous regressions. I've also been taking much longer to have a let down, which I learned is likely due to the heightened cortisol sleep deprivation causes. This was leading to a frustrated baby, and biting, which only made me more stressed.

The sinus infection was making it hard for me to go to sleep (no NyQuil of course) The other night I decided to take Magnesium Glycinate, which I took a lot during pregnancy, but not much postpartum.

I went to bed early, and when I was lying down just had a random letdown, for the first time in ages and leaked out enough to collect with my Haakaa.

Letdowns were better the next day as well. I think it's just helped me relax just enough to make that process easier.

Thought I'd share!

Discussion Getting a massage while breastfeeding?

My husband keeps telling me to go get a massage since I’ve been talking about the back pain our giant baby is giving me lol. Before being a mom, I had little boobs and never thought twice about massages. Now that I’m breastfeeding and everything is bigger and more sensitive, even laying on my stomach in bed is somewhat uncomfy.

For the women with larger boobs or who’ve had massages while breastfeeding, do you lay in a different position so it’s more comfortable? Any tips?

Nipple/Boob issues bruised but not clogged

• Upvotes

My right breast has a slight bruise and it’s so sore internally but there’s no clog. I woke up pretty engorged 24 hours ago (overnight) but again, no clog.

So what gives? Why am I bruised and so sore?

Twins/Multiples Breast feeding twins

• Upvotes

Any EBF twin moms out there? Looking for tips on how to keep enough of a supply to feed both babies. We supplement with formula right now but I am interested in trying to get them exclusively on breast milk. Because I am often nursing both babies I don’t really pump unless I’m away from them. Babies are almost 3 months old.

Support Needed Long night sleeps and supply

• Upvotes

My daughter is 5 weeks old and we have been absolutely blessed with a good night sleeper. But I struggled with undersupply up until last week and now I am kind of concerned about what to do.

The past week she has been sleeping two 5 hour stretches. I breastfeed or pump before bed, pump in the middle of the night so my husband can finish the feed and I can go back to bed asap (that also produces enough for supplementing), and then I breastfeed in the morning. By the time she wakes up, I am painfully engorged. And then during the day, I try to breast feed as much as possible but then end up having to give her a bottle for the midday and evening meals because my breasts produce basically nothing. I pump whenever she gets a bottle feed.

I'm worried about our out of synch schedule. Will by body adapt to it so I don't start under producing again? I'm so frustrated that the midday and evening breast feeding is so unsatisfying to her. I try to get her to latch as long and as often as she wants, but then she has a meltdown and I rope my husband in for bottle time so that both of us can regain some calm and stop expending energy on this.

I also don't really know if this sleep schedule will persist, but good god my husband and I needed those extra hours so I let her sleep til 8 am some days.

I guess, I struggled so much the first few weeks, I am just anxious that my body doesn't know what to do. I love feeding her directly when my production is up to her demands.

Thank you!!

Support Needed Is it ok to always put baby to breast when theyre fussy/crying

Going to breast instantly calms him down and is so such easier than trying to pace around with or incessantly rock him. It’s like instant magic.

But could putting him to breast even if he was already on the breast 30 mins ago or letting him be on the breast for a couple hours straight in the evening lead to overfeeding?

My boy was born 99 percentile and at 2 months he still is. He also spits up a TON and is very gassy. During the second half of the night he grunts, strains, and writhes around like he’s uncomfortable. This usually starts after his one middle of the night feed. He is otherwise a good sleeper at night, he just seems so gassy and refluxy and grunty from like 4-7am.

I want to know if maybe im putting him to breast too often and contributing to his reflux and gas by doing so

Encouragement/Solidarity Today my 13 month old said "All Done"

I've been pumping and nursing for the last year. Last month when baby turned one, I started to cut out pumping slowly decreasing supply. This morning when baby woke up, I sat to nurse her, and she looked at me and said "all done" with the ASL sign and wouldn't latch at all. I guess we're done done, and I have so many feelings about it.

Troubleshooting/Tips EBF and introducing a dummy?

I know the most common advice is to wait a few weeks for breastfeeding to become established before introduing a dummy, so it doesn't interfere with the process.

I never breastfed my first baby but I'm now 37 weeks pregnant with my second and planning to try. I have friends who followed the above advice but it kinda backfired because at that point their babies just refused dummies altogether. I don't actually have that many breastfeeding mum friends so I'm coming here for other's anecdotes and experiences.

If you breastfeed and your baby also uses a dummy, when did you introduce it and what was it like?

Well my LO has just turned 9 months and has been EBF. Has never taken a bottle and hasn’t needed to…until today! Ok not today but in the near future he will need to. I am starting back to work soon and he will be starting at daycare. I only pumped a little when he was first born but haven’t since. I have a Spectre 9Plus and need some tips. When should I pump? How long? Etc! Please send me your tips so I can build up a stash. I’ll work on him taking a bottle next…first let’s get this milk flowing.

Support Needed How am I meant to go back to work?? 9 month old

Hi everyone! I'm lucky enough to have an EBF 9 month old who loves her solids but I go back to work in a month and am worrying massively about her milk intake. She refuses the bottle and I've tried giving her the milk from a sippy cup but she's not really interested. The last three days I've walked her in the pram for her naps so she didn't feed off me all day but today it's raining heavily so she's back on the boob to sleep. Personally, I don't mind and will feed on demand but my worry is when she goes to the child minder - is it ok for her to not be having milk during the day and just solids? She's a big eater so it's not as if she's having nothing at all to eat or drink.

Should I be prepping her to go to the child minder and maybe having less milk or will she just adapt and I can continue feeding to sleep as normal as and when?? She is definitely a comfort baby and wants to be close (which I love) so I'm not prepared to have her stressing!!

Nipple/Boob issues Nipple pain

I’m not sure which flair to use because i don’t feel this is a latch issue but could be wrong. Basically my baby is almost 6 weeks old and she has been breastfeeding and latching no pain! This last week my nipple of my breast she favors has been painful by touch and rubbing against stuff. She has a good latch it doesn’t hurt during feed, but every time she begins she has to suck on my nipple hard and then latches no matter how open her mouth is, if i shove it further for the latch she spits it out and sucks anyways 🫩i’ve been icing after and using earth mama nipple butter a tiny bit before and after but will this stop or does anyone else struggle with this? tmi but i do have longer nipples unfortunately so they are always in the way

Mastitis/Clogged Ducts Clogged milk duct but…

I have experienced clogged ducts since august 2026.. somehow cleared it out around 1st week of October because when I pump, i no longer get those scary clogged thick milk.. however, my clogged breast is still a little bigger than the other also the areola is a little thicker/bigger.. but both breasts are soft.. my milk output on clogged breast has significantly lowered. Should my breast be the same size as the other by now? Should i be worried?

Troubleshooting/Tips My 3.5 month old baby slept 10-12 hours in the last 5 nights. Is this normal?

My baby is a great sleeper. At 9 weeks old, we were down to 1-2 wake-ups a night. Then at 14 weeks old, we were going through what I thought was the 4 month regression for 5 nights. She was up every 1-2 hours and I would nurse her to sleep.

Then on Sunday night, I woke up at 3am feeling engorged but baby girl was still out like a light. I went back to sleep and woje up at 6am with a leaking boob so I pumped. I only realised she hadn't fed yet as I was pumping. Since then, she's been sleeping through the night.

Nothing about our routine has changed except that we're giving her a bottle of breastmilk before bed which I pumped earlier in the day. We started doing this because we wanted more bonding time with dad and her. Of course, I'm not wanting this to change. Being able to sleep long stretches is nice and I do pump in the middle of the night to keep my supply up. And we are aware how extremely lucky we are to find ourselves in this position.

But I am worried mainly because my grandmother says I should be waking her up to feed. But advice from my medical provider says I don't need to wake her up as she'll wake up if she's hungry.

Should I be waking her or not? Is it normal for her to sleep this long at this age?

Support Needed Baby feeding all night long - possibly thrush?

My 13mo is literally feeding constantly and has been for a good 2/3 weeks now, if not more. We co sleep and he’s EBF, but I honestly feel like he’s doing it all night, almost like he’s forgotten how to sleep without it.
It’s making me want to stop BF even though I’d want to continue longer, I just can’t carry on like this and he can’t be getting any sleep either.
He’s still pretty frequent during the day though sometimes better than others but at night nothing will settle him apart from the boob and will freak out if my husband tries. I’m just at the end of my tether and don’t know what to do.
He is currently being treated for oral thrush - can that make babies feed more often, maybe it soothes the pain or something?

Combo Feeding Any recommendations on formula brands to switch my EBF baby to??

Hi! my supply is tanking for my 9 month old and I’m expecting to go back to work in November. I’m really panicking because I know I’m not going to make enough breast milk to pump :(

My baby will tolerate some sips (maybe like an ounce) of Kendamil. Does anyone have any reccs for formula? Anything their breast fed baby tolerated better at first?

Thanks for helping an anxious mom 🫶

Encouragement/Solidarity Where we're at on our road to wean tops up and triple weeding / baby +- one month

I just wanted to share our progress, up and down on the road to getting baby on EBF after a rough start: 37.2 week. Sleepy little one who received bottles and tubefeeding at the hospital. That also slowed down my milk.

Here we are now he is 29 days old and how we got there.

First step for us was breast at every feed, waking him up every 3 hours, followed by SNS at the second breast and sometimes finger feeding when SNS wasn't working enough to get him +- 30 ml of supplements. I was pumping after every feed but we did have to use formula.

When he got better at taking it via SNS, we started putting the SNS a little later in the feed. At first, it was always a race against the sleepiness to put it soon enough for him to do not fall too sleepy.

So around ten days old, his weight was back on track and he started waking up more by himself while remaining easily sleepy on the breast. As he was gaining weight fast (55 GR/day), we were encouraged to start giving less supplements.

Our first step was to stop giving the +- 3 am supplement and pumping to my husband to sleep more hours in a row (he was helping me give the SNS, wash the pumping parts etc every time.) to help the functioning of the family lol. It allowed him to sleep from the +- midnight feed to the +- 6 am.

A few days later, baby was still gaining a lot of weight (we bought a scale to weigh at home.) but he started taking big top ups and then sleep longer between feeds so we decided to reduce the offer of tops ups to 30 ml by feed, offering again the breast if he was still hungry. It worked for the frequency of the feeds, he got back to every 2-3 hour.

A few days later, still going high for weight and happy baby. So we started skipping the SNS offering at one feed a day. Still working.

Eventually we got to around 120 ml a day. When we try going to 90 ml, we had a less good weight gain and fastly saw baby was fussier after so we went back to 120 ml for a bit.

Big progress: Since last week, I have been able to pump 100% of his supplements so no more formula!

I now have two pumps: the Medela symphony I rent and I bought the eufy2. This one helped me get a lot of life quality back because I can, by example, pump and eat breakfast at the same time. It helped me make pumping work better while still taking a lot of my time. I use the two depending of the moment of the day.

We also discovered lately doing 6 x 20 ml was better than 4 x 30 ml because he will drinks the 30 ml but will have a lot more reflux and spitting after. It's a lot of trial and errors.

So we are doing this right now. Last night weight was great and we decided to keep on the 120 ml for a week, do another weighing and see what we will do. I still pump 5-7 times a day after feeding with SNS.

Oh and during this process, we have been writing all the pees, poops, feeds etc to be able to count them regularly and makes sure everything works.

I hope we will get to zero SNS eventually but we learned we have to be patient. I can pump between 20 and 60 ml after a feed so the milk he needs is there in the breast. He just needs to get it by himself!

.

My baby has begun to stretch his body - inwards (towards belly) or arching his back during breastfeeding and grunting. Does it mean he is laying uncomfortably or?
I’m not using a nursing pillow..

Latch Issues Will a bad latch matter in the long run?

My daughter is 5 and a half weeks old, she has gained weight beautifully since leaving the hospital and I know I have an oversupply so getting enough nutrients is not an issue for us. However, she doesn’t have a great latch. She doesn’t really get any of the area around the nipple, just the nipple. It doesn’t hurt me and I don’t have any sort of irritation on the area. I try to correct her but she just will not open wide enough most of the time! My question is- does it really matter? If she’s getting enough milk and I’m not in pain do I NEED to fix this for something else in the long run? I don’t know if I’m missing something important. Thank you!

Newborn Troubleshooting 5 week old suddenly fighting the breast, cluster feeding, short nipples

i'm hoping for any advice, tips or any similar situations.

I'm a second time mom with a 5.5 week old.
gained birth weight back within a week, continues gaining weight well. no issues with latch, supply or feeding until a few days ago.

i know the last few days he fights at the breast until i legit shove him or have to switch a position. even then he still fights. the crazy part is that he's searching but yet pushes me away! i don't understands why. i do express my nipple and then push my entire nipple into his mouth. after some back and forth he finally eats.

my nipples are short (even LC had pointed that out) but i haven't had any trouble. the past couple days he has been eating a lot more frequently (at night time its been every 2-3 hours tbh) but during the day hes going crazy.

my nipples are sore now too, they weren't before but oh gosh they are now. i just need someone to tell me what im doing wrong or what can i do to help.

Rant/Venting These “phantom periods” are my worst PP symptom.

Even worse than a c-section recovery as a solo parent with a newborn.

Every month I get every PMS symptom and then some. Cramping. Fatigue. Mood swings. Rage. Anxiety. Bloat. Headaches. Joint pain.

And every month I never get the “release” of an actual period.

Just this endless hell of PMS symptoms (I also get mittleschmirz when I ovulate).

I’ve never wanted my period before so badly in my life.

I’m planning on weaning slightly after 1 year but not completely (she’s almost 9 months and we’ll do an AM/PM arrangement).

Terrified this is just gonna continue until we stop completely.
