In my career as an AMT I’ve worked for Boeing, United, UPS, and SpaceX…Boeing has been by far the best job I’ve ever had. I wish I still worked there.

But no matter how small and trivial the reasons were or if it was an accident, when you have a do not rehire on your record, HR will never lift the ban. Not even with a PRO 6523 and multiple managers vouching for you.

Careers Want to transition into management, but lack leadership experience. Where do I start?

I’m currently an individual contributor (engineer) and want to start building a path toward management, but I do not have much formal leadership experience yet.

For those who made the jump from IC to manager:

  • How did you show leadership capability before you had the official title?
  • What key skills or opportunities should I focus on taking on right now?
  • What books, resources, or mindset shifts helped you the most early on?

Any advice or reality checks would be awesome. Thanks!

Moving internally

Hey everyone, I'm new to Boeing and really not enjoying my role. I'm in STL in BDS. Northrop had a rule that you could not move positions within 6 months, and had a team "internal mobility" which was to help people move who weren't happy with their roles. Does Boeing have similar rules or a structure? What is the right way for me to approach this?

Careers Is being a Product Repair/Mod Tech A worth it ?

Is taking a contractor job at Boeing worth leaving a guaranteed $31/hr job?
I recently received an offer for a Product Repair/Modification Technician position at Boeing in Heath, Ohio, through a staffing agency.
The contract is for six months, paying $30/hr, with a potential opportunity to convert to a permanent Boeing employee afterward. However, during the interview, I was told the permanent pay would likely be around $23–$25/hr because of the benefits.
I currently make $31/hr working for a data center company, so taking the permanent position would mean a pretty significant pay cut. I’m also not sure how realistic the six-month conversion is or whether it’s something they commonly do versus just a possibility.
On the other hand, everyone I’ve talked to keeps telling me that having Boeing on my résumé could open doors long-term. The interviewer also mentioned that you can definitely buy a house working there, but that doesn’t really answer my concerns about the pay difference.
I’m supposed to start this Friday, but I’m hesitant to leave a stable job for a contract position with no guaranteed conversion.
For anyone who has worked at Boeing, especially in manufacturing or modification roles:
How realistic is conversion from contractor to permanent employee after six months?
Is there meaningful career growth and room to increase your pay over time?
Does having Boeing on your résumé genuinely open doors elsewhere?
Would you take this opportunity, or stay at a guaranteed $31/hr job in the data center industry?
I’m trying to make the smartest long-term career move, not just chase a big name. I’d appreciate honest advice from people who have actually been in this situation.

Advice for handling new manager’s response to sick time and PTO

I am under SPEEA engineering. My team has a new manager, under our old manager it was generally allowable to notify for PTO in advance with no questions asked and pre-planned sick time was never questioned for dr appointments, procedures, etc. A coworker recently sent a notification to the team for sick time next month with no details (as previously acceptable under our old manager) and our new manager proceeded to ask questions regarding the need of the sick day, seemingly hinting at flexing time instead. This new manager seemingly is more rigid and also has advocated for no alternate schedules (like 9/80) though that was previously allowed for our team. Any advice on how to navigate this? Do we just accept the less flexible work-life balance and micromanagement or do we have any ground to stand on pushing back, especially for the pre-scheduled sick day situation.

Just looking for some advice, I left my last job because of a bad manager and came to Boeing and was very happy with the manager who hired me. I’m a little worried about things going forward.

Careers Renton Transfer

I'm a 30304 and, due to personal reasons, I want to transfer to Renton from the Everett factory. But I'm not sure how to go about it as I've only been on the job for 5 months.

I was hoping someone could get me in contact with a manager or second level who'd be willing to help bring me over.

I have a friend who is close to transferring, the only way that worked was for a second level to pull him. He tried to do a 1 for 1 but it was pretty much shut down.

I am also willing to be loaned out but I don't know how that would work as I believe I'd need to redo my sojt

Any help is useful. Thanks

Internship Internship Offer Release

I interviewed on campus for an internship at Boeing about a month ago, and I was wondering if anyone has any insight into when offers are sent out. They told me 2-3 weeks after the interview, but it’s been 4 weeks and I haven’t heard of anyone else receiving offers and I haven’t heard anything after following up with my interviewers. Does anyone know of offers being sent out already? Thanks

Pre-employment🤔 Taking the Exam for Electronics Technician

I just got and email and gotten a phone call that I passed the resume selection and need to take the Electronics Technician Assessment with Proctor360.
I also received a short PDF:
"Assessment Blueprint Electronics Technician for Equipment Services 87210"
that lays out the topics that will be covered and distribution of questions for each topic.

Test is 125 questions, 3 hour limit. Deadline is Nov. 4 (I plan to take it well before.)

Anything I should know about the specifics of the exam? Study tips? Resources to study from?

This is the first time I've gotten this far in the hiring process at Boeing and the first time I had to take an extensive test for a job. I really want pass!

If it is allowed, I can comment the topics that were given to me.

Does Boeing allow for referrals to internships?

Please forgive me if this is not allowed, I didn’t find any information about this on the application FAQ

I am currently a student who has someone that wants to refer me for an engineering internship.

On the Boeing referral page it’s says I either need to get a referral link from him or add his email under the “how did you hear about us” section of the application.

Neither of those options seem to exist for interns. He searched the job listing number within Boeing’s internal job board with no results and the section for me to attach him in the application does not exist. It only seems to exist on FTE positions.

Any advice is appreciated and I understand it’s a great privilege to be able to have a current employee in my corner during this application process.

Total Access/Worklife/HR Exostar and "Ineligible for Rehire"

The other thread about the no rehire list made me curious, if someone is on the no rehire list they can't get a gray or paper temp badge. If they later work for a supplier are they also unable to get an Exostar account to access Redars and engineering specs?

Total Access/Worklife/HR Question about "No Rehire"

HR told me that anyone with a "no rehire" mark can't ever step foot on Boeing property again, even if they are part of another organization that Boeing has specifically requested services from.

Which, if true, leads to a my question:

If a supervisor coerced many many people to agree to "no rehire" separation agreements before he was terminated by Boeing for ethical reasons, including HR practices, is there any way to mitigate the employment concerns this creates, especially for people who have long and active employment in Defense/Space/Aviation, etc?

(Adjacent, because I know some of the folks this supervisor targeted, I can easily see them working for FAA or DoD in the future, and it would be really interesting to see if Boeing would turn them away at the door.)

ISO: vintage yellow graph paper notebooks or similar

I’m nearing the end of my beloved Boeing-made spiral notebook that I inherited from a retired STF. Thick, bleed-proof yellow pages with light blue grid. The grid does NOT go all the way to the edges like those silly Mead notebooks with see-through paper in the supply cabinet. There is a border and space at the top for dates and little notes. Rounded corners, durable glossy covers. 🤩

Has anyone encountered paper like this in the wild for sale? Or, does anyone have a spare vintage one and willing to send it interoffice? 🥹 thanks for any leads.

Career Advice L5 vs K

Looking for some career advice and trying to look at the bigger picture. What do you think is the better path: a Level 5 individual contributor or moving into a K-level management role?

On the surface, the Level 5 position seems like the logical choice. My concern is that Level 5 is essentially the top of the ladder within that skill code, so I’m wondering if moving into a K role would create more long-term growth opportunities and eventually put me in a better position to move into an L-level management role.

I’m also curious about the differences between the two paths beyond just career progression. Are there any significant advantages, perks, compensation differences, or downsides to being a K-level manager versus a Level 5 individual contributor?

Basically, I’m trying to figure out which path makes the most sense not only for the next position, but for where I want to be 5–10 years from now.
