What happened to Yi Fang?
Almost all their stores across North America have closed. I’m not a fan of fruit tea but really liked their milk tea, along with their shop design.

Hi fellow boba enthusiasts,
I wanted to thank you all for being a part of our community. We started this subreddit as a few friends wanting to post pics of boba on Reddit, and it's taken on a life of its own, with some pretty amazing boba content, questions being answered, and lively discussions.
We've generally erred towards self-moderation, but it becomes tougher as the subreddit gets larger and larger. With that in mind, some collated guidelines as below -- partly new, partly old. As a moderation team, we're open to discussion around these and changing/adding to these as a community -- feel free to let us know if there's something on your mind, either below or in messages to us.
- Self-promotion
We will enforce as per the Reddit self-promotion guidelines (this has always been a rule, but now is highlighted in the sidebar). Please report if you see something, and the moderation team will remove as appropriate. If you feel your post has been unfairly removed, please do message the mods. Use your personal judgment -- if it feels like you're in territory where you could equivalently be purchasing advertising, it likely is self-promotion. Message the mods if you're not sure!
- "Starting a business", surveys, how to make boba
Some portion of historic /r/boba content are related to the above topics.
To manage this content, we are encouraging the above content to be directed to a regular Q&A megathread. We will remove all content related to "starting a business" and surveys, outside of the megathread.
Commercial content is still discouraged (refer to above self-promotion guidelines).
- Boba content
We're liberal on what's boba-related content. Links, images, (other) questions, (other) discussions -- all are welcome here. We've had some reports that some content is "not boba". Our guidance on this is that shaken tea drinks, boba, bubble tea, are all certainly fine. If it's a drink that would fit in the conversation when friends say "let's go get boba," then it's likely fine. If it's got a helmet and rhymes with vhett, then it's likely not fine..
Rules above will start to be soft-enforced as of today, and will be hard-enforced in 7 days from this post creation.
Thanks all for taking the time to read (and possibly discuss), and thank you for being part of the /r/boba community!

I am asking this because I am currently doing a research paper for a Chinese food language class and I have chosen to look at this question having noticed some trends with the shops that have varied place to place. I was planning to look at the San Gabriel Valley, Seattle, Houston, and NYC. Like I know from experience Houston has some more Vietnamese influence and Seattle has Japanese influences throughout its food culture in general. What other places have something like this going on?

Hello! I have Wangderm tea bags, but no matter how much tea bags I steep in boiling water, it still tastes so watered down and nasty.
How do I get that real thai boba taste? Everything online says 1 tea bag per 1 cup of water with some milk… thats disgusting to me it barely tastes like thai tea?? Im doing like 3 tea bags per a cup but its just so watery still. The boba shops I usually see have a dark Thai tea concentrate and throw in half-and-half, which is what I like.

does anyone know where bingxue gets there jasmine tea leaves cuz it’s insanely amazing and i need it
When we passed by Xing Fu Tang (Flushing, NY) today, I saw this sign with two new persimmon drinks, in collaboration with Shinsegae Hyper Ground (which is a K-Beauty pop-up in NYC - I actually just passed by this pop-up over the weekend when I went to Kodansha House). We got the limited edition Hyper Ground Persimmon Milk Tea. I liked it quite a bit, and I need to go back for the other drink, soon!

Every time I suck up the last boba, I say out loud, "I win".
Location by the way https://maps.app.goo.gl/1AeX9CXGtUBEVP8y9?g_st=ac
We went to Kung Fu Tea during our travels this weekend, and I saw a sign in the window featuring four "Taro Tarot" drinks. The one called "Three of Swords" really appealed to me... it's described as 'taro cherry milk tea & boba'... it had me at cherry! This was great!!

Hi. I am trying to make some cheese foam for topping my boba tea. Unfortunately, my cheese foam is not rising after beating with my egg beater for a very long time. My recipe requires me to add cheese foam powder, full cream milk, sweetened condensed milk and whipping cream. Should I combine all the ingredients together and beat it or should I beat the whipping cream first until fluffy before I add the rest of the ingredients? How did you guys do it?

Got boba today and had big cutable chunks of taro in it. I think most of the times I have gotten Boba with taro it was from the powder. Does fresh taro normally have chunks that don’t dissolve? Didn’t want to complain if it is my lack of knowledge.

Tastea’s customer service is god awful. I get they’re not authentic boba and I get mocked by everyone for drinking it because there’s a plethora of way better boba joints. My issue with them is how they do NOT care for the ones who still patron their mid business. They take WEEKS to respond. Don’t even bother to read emails thoroughly, just gives a very generic response like I can tell you didn’t even bother to read about my customer service experience. They didn’t even apologize or anything, even though they were wrong and stole my money.

This was hands-down my favorite drink when I lived in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and it tastes just like what they serve back in Asia!
So happy we finally have one in the neighborhood. Their boba with the thick milk foam is an absolute must-try. My girl got the matcha, which was amazing too.
Definitely check them out if you're craving authentic Taiwanese boba!

I've recently been traveling a lot and naturally everywhere I go I'll hit up the popular tea shops. There's one shop that to my surprise, I've had multiple negative experiences at in different states: HeyTea. So I'm wondering if I've just been unlucky or something about HeyTea'a operations specifically is causing these issues.
So if anyone has worked at HeyTea or has some insight as to why these chain specific issues are occurring I'd be interested in hearing more. Is it a more strenuous tea brewing/drink making process compared to other chains? High employee turnover? Bad management? Not properly cleaning the workspaces?? Let me know!
UPDATE: after checking said problematic HeyTea location reviews, I noticed a common factor that all of them had: they are MALL locations. I've had the smell issue with 3 diff locations and theyre all at malls, and I think its because of bad AC upkeep and having open storefront doors (as opposed to closed doors w good airflow & heytea smell at standalone locations)

WHAT crack does chicha put in their black milk tea (and their cassia)?? how does the boba and the mousse topping taste fresh every single time without fail? this is truly the best tasting milk tea i’ve ever had, and i’m not sure why

I barely found out about this drink. I recently went to Heytea around the time this drink was launched and never saw this drink advertised or being sold. I’m so sad. I checked all the locations near me on the app and none of them have it. I LOVE apple drinks I LOVE Heytea… has anybody tried this?? I’m getting serious fomo.
