Hey everyone I am looking to purchase this boat it’s had a restoration with proof and is solid but the current owner doesn’t know what the boat actually is as the hin was taken off
Its registered as a 1986 buccaneer a NZ builder but apparently the owner has emailed them and they have never made a model that look like this
Any insight at all will be appreciated I have searched high and low and can’t find a single image of anything with the same hull
Aus based

Cheers

What should we checked in an all-inclusive BVI yacht charter?

We’re looking at a crewed cat for five adults in March. They say “all-inclusive” and has one weekly number on it. I don’t want to get to the boat and find out half of what I assumed is extra. I’m thinking meals on board, drinks, crew, trip, meals ashore, and airport transfer. Anything else I'm missing?

Flag Help Needed

I'm getting into boating, but I have a question about the flags - where are they flown? Specifically for a sailboat with a single mast.

So far I know:

- National ensign on the stern (or yacht ensign in domestic waters)

- Courtesy flag on the starboard spreader (after clearing customs)

- Club burgee at the masthead

- Private flag or officer's flag on the starboard spreader (I think?)

- Fun flags on the port spreader

I have a few gaps in my knowledge, and I was wondering:

- Are signal flags (when signaling) flown on the port or starboard spreader?

- When fully dressed, do the signal flags move to a different place or stay on the starboard spreader?

- Where does the private/officer's flag move when flying something else on the starboard spreader? Does it go above, below, or to a different place?

- Do fun flags rank lowest on the port spreader, or are they removed when flying other flags?

- Can multiple lines be run so you can hoist flags in the "same" place without taking others down? An example of this would be to put the courtesy flag on a separate line, so other flags could be hoisted on the starboard spreader without having to lower it, attach a flag, and hoist it again.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Figured I’d share a few pictures I got over the weekend, not the worst pictures i guess, considering it’s the first time using it!

Marina put this one after winterizing. We've never done this on previous inboards. Wouldn't this just trap moisture via condensation?

Oil leaking from under oil filter.

I was winterizing the boat the other day, and I saw a trace of oil dripping, and it looked like it was coming from under where the oil filter screws on. Could it be a bad gasket, or is it a bad filter? I changed the oil last month. Someone said its probably a bad OEM filter and said I should use NAPA 1069. Also, anyone had issues with the high remote filter system like the tubes under the filter bracket.

Mercruiser 5.0 MPI oil change question

Post image
2 Upvotes

This fall will be my 5th time winterizing my boat. I have used this oil evacuator to suck the oil through the dipstick tube everytime. My issue is not with the pump itself. It actually works pretty well. My research has told me that these engines have a 4.5 quart oil capacity. The problem is I can only ever seem to put four quarts back in meaning I'm leaving a half a quart of old oil in there. The included hose that goes down the dipstick tube is definitely long enough to reach the bottom of the oil pan, but I feel like it's not getting all the way down there. So I guess I actually have 3 questions.

  1. Has anyone else experienced this?

  2. Do these engines have some sort of windage tray in the oil pan that is possibly not letting the hose get all the way to the bottom?

  3. What do you all use to do your oil change on your MerCruiser engines?

They have a recent survey that says there are no structural problems. I contacted the survey company ( alpha survey services) who contend that the survey was done during a storm so they can’t be responsible for all the information.

Can someone please help me with this drawing with a boat in it? Spoiler

I am quite bad at drawing boats. I keep trying to go off references but I still feel like none of this makes sense, ESPECIALLY with the sail. The references are also quite unclear most of the time. I know there are supposed to be ropes, but where do they go?? Where to they attach at?

I've been struggling to get this right and I don't know how to fix it 😭...

Can anyone give me some tips on things I need to change, add, or remove to make it more accurate? It's just kind of supposed to be an old wooden sail boat (remember, this is coming from someone who knows absolutely nothing about boats 💀🔫)

Please feel free to ask any questions you may need because I know this probably isn't very helpful on its own, and I will try my best to answer ❤️

I’m looking for any info someone may have on this boat. Named Dazzler out of Andrew’s NC. Which is a landlocked town but I know it can be moved. Looking to purchase it and do a refit possibly but cannot find any info on it. Not in the USCG database. It’s on the hard as you can see and the only HIN numbers I have found are coming up with nadda. Was hoping the internet can do its thing.

Free boat better than no boat

i’ve been storing one of my dad‘s friends 1987 Malibu skier at my house and I’ve been feeling bad that it’s just sitting there due to his declining health have decided to get this beauty back to its glory. It does have a few soft spots by captain seat but overall it seems to be in pretty decent shape. Just needs a good cleaning and waxing ...I’m gonna try it out next season see if I like it and then throw some more money and time fixing the floor and making it a little nicer.. I was googling this boat looking for parts and I found an ad from a guy that was about an hour away from me and he gave me a free boat, which is in worse shape and a boat trailer for free so we’re looking pretty good

What kind of boats are these?

My husband and I went kayaking yesterday and saw these two boats at someone’s personal residence along a small river. We live in Green Bay, WI. I think they might be fish tugs from the Great Lakes, but I’m not sure. It took a lot of Googling just to find out about fish tugs. I am curious what their function may have been, and it sounds like fish tugs were once quite prominent on the Great Lakes.

My husband thought they are houseboats, but that doesn’t seem right. I don’t have the guts to knock on their door as this is in a somewhat pretentious area where people wouldn’t take too kindly to random strangers stopping by.

How to Build a Wooden Boat: Surveying the Full Frame in the Jungle

Thumbnail youtu.be

We surveyed the full wooden frame in the jungle - from Bow to Transom - before stringers. Follow the Wooden Shoe station by station as Victor and Per check every joint, gap and epoxy fix before locking it forever. After stringers go on, it's very difficult to fix inside — so this is our last chance to get it right.

The Bow, Keel to Bow glued, screwed and planed to a smooth curve, Station 1 OK, Station 2 Add Gflex epoxy in gaps, Station 3 OK, Station 4 OK, Station 5 Add Gflex epoxy, Station 5.5 OK, Station 6 OK, Station 7 Add Gflex epoxy, Cockpit Sole missing second layer epoxy, Station 8 OK, Station 9 gap rear side, Station 10 gap front side, Station 11 OK, Station 12 OK, Station 13 add Gflex epoxy in gap, Station 14 Transom must be glued and screwed from the top, support structures walk-through, ending with Now we have the points and lets fix this!

Building a 25FT Wooden Shoe powerboat from scratch in Mexico with Chechen wood and Cumaru hardwood. No fancy workshop — just lofting, framing and honest fixes.

Now we have the points and lets fix this!
