Hi! A group of us are planning a ski trip to Big Sky for mid February. It will be adults and a few kids under 2. There's a mix of skiers and snowboarders. Any tips or advice to offer ? We are coming from new England area, ice central, pretty average as far as skiing goes. More interested in groomed runs, maybe an easier black. I already reached out to day care to see what rates were at the resort - so if anyone has any experience with BiG Sky's child care i would love to hear. Interested in fun things to do in town as well! Thanks everyone:)
If you are a BOH worker considering a job at Bucks, Tips Up, or Block 3, do not rely on verbal promises about stable hours.
People come to Big Sky for two main reasons: to work and live in the mountains, or to take advantage of the ski pass. Based on my experience, you should forget about stable employment with Apres Cru. And if you are mainly coming for the ski pass, there are probably better options with other employers in Big Sky.
I worked at Tips Up for about six months. During that time, a large number of people left or were replaced, from upper-level managers to regular kitchen staff.
The biggest problem was the number of hours. Before I moved to Big Sky, I was told that I could expect around 32 hours per week during shoulder season. In reality, my hours were gradually cut from approximately 13 hours per week down to 6 hours per week.
With that number of hours, it is impossible to reliably pay for housing and basic expenses. You quickly end up in debt, and then leaving is not so simple because you first have to deal with the financial hole you were put in.
I repeatedly spoke with employees who were dealing with serious financial problems because of the lack of hours. Some of them were on the verge of losing their housing. Others had to take second jobs just to pay rent and get back to zero.
That is why I consider this system completely irresponsible: you are told one level of hours, you move to Big Sky based on that expectation, you receive only a fraction of the work, and then you are left alone to deal with rent, debt, and the consequences.
The management at Tips Up was a separate disaster. In my experience, the schedule could change unpredictably, and the number of hours was nowhere near what had been discussed before I moved. Once you start asking questions about your hours or working conditions, you may end up with even fewer shifts, disciplinary issues, or enough pressure that you start considering quitting.
I also expect managers or company representatives to show up under this post and try to portray me as incompetent, difficult, or a “problem employee.” That would not surprise me. Management is unlikely to be happy about another negative post appearing publicly about the company. To be clear, I am describing my own experience, and I kept my schedules, pay records, and messages with the company.
My advice is simple: if you still decide to work for Apres Cru, find a second job immediately and come with a serious financial cushion. Otherwise, if your hours drop to 6–13 per week, you can end up in debt very quickly.
Do not rely on verbal promises of 32–35 hours. Get the number of hours in writing in your offer letter. Otherwise, you may move to Big Sky, receive only a few shifts per week, and be left to deal with rent, debt, and the consequences of promises that were never guaranteed.
This is my personal experience working at Tips Up. I do not recommend Apres Cru to BOH workers who are looking for stable hours, predictable income, and competent management.

Hey everyone!
I’m a web designer and thought it might be nice to help a few local businesses improve their websites.
If you run a business and have a website you’re not completely happy with, feel free to share the link with me along with a little bit about what your business does.
I’ll take a look, redesign your website for free, and send it over when it’s done.
I don’t have a specific type of business in mind, so anyone is welcome! I’m just looking to work on some projects and hopefully help a few business owners along the way.

Beautiful, modern, private apartment available November-April. $1750 including utilities. One bedroom, three beds. Great for a single person or two friends. Big Sky will provide a pass for the private Jack Creek Road to get from Ennis to Big Sky. Similar distance as living in the Gallatin Valley. The Jack Creek Road is a privately owned and maintained road. You may see one or two other cars while driving up it. Four wheel drive and good tires are a must. Will consider one dog with a deposit but no cats. Photos can be found at the AirBnb Listing Below. Please text me at (917)533-7412 if interested! The last two people who rented here ended up loving Ennis so much, they moved here permanently!

Hello once more, Big Sky pals! Just popping by again to let you know: if you happen to be in Bozeman THIS FRIDAY (9/18) around 6pm, then have we ever got a comedy show for you!
The monthly early-evening, short-format stand-up comedy showcase is nearly upon us, once more!! it's...The Stand-Up Pop-Up!
September's issue sees a true cavalcade of Montana comedy! Cody Trogdon (Missoula), Max Brand (Billings), Jordan Bynoe (Livingston) and Rachelle Parrish (Bozeman) all coalesce upon Apres Brewing (1216 W. Lincoln St) to deliver the funny!
As always, admission is FREE, and the show starts right around 6:00pm and lasts about an hour, so you can pop in, have a couple of Apres's delicious beers, have some guffaws and get back out into the night in time to scrounge up some more trouble!
The Stand-Up Pop-Up at Apres Brewing!
Good beers, good laughs. Good times!

I saw a sign up at the base area during the Rut that they were selling mountain bikes from the rental area. I didn't have time to check it Saturday and now they are closed down. Does anyone know of any end of the season deals around town? Looking for a full suspension mountain bike.

My husband and I have the opportunity to get away together for 3 nights (2 full days and 2 half/travel days) October 5-8, and we are considering Big Sky. Obviously not a ton of time to do all the things, but we really want to be somewhere beautiful during the short time we are able to be away. We’d of course go into Yellowstone for a day. Overall, I’m looking for recommendations on things to do and more importantly places to stay. We are usually Airbnb people, but I think this time I’d prefer a hotel/lodge/resort where I feel “taken care of” ie amenities, housekeeping, room service, etc. Walkability to restaurants is important too! I’m open to Airbnbs if they are super scenic or if the walkability factor is there. Hoping to spend less than $1,000 ish for the 3 nights.

I’m curious how housing works and any experience with shared housing. I’ve been told I would be placed in Gallatin gateway for housing and I’m just curious. I will have two roommates and shared kitchen. I’m trying to see if groceries space would be an issue. If the housing will be okay in the winter with heating and so on.

Just an FYI this is probably the worst run hospitality company Big Sky has ever seen. The run Block 3, Tips, and Bucks. If you’re considering working for them, i’d reconsider hard. Everyone from the time they’ve been here (6mo) has either been fired or quit. The D.O, The head of HR, the Culinary Director, 3 KM’s at Tips, 1 Exec Chef at Block 3 and Bucks. The turnover is crazy. even for a ski town. They also stole everyone’s ski pass money when they took it out pre tax and then taxed us on the refund, Mismanaged (at best) tip allocations at each establishment and in my 25+ yrs in hospitality I have never worked with or for a worse group of human beings so out of touch with the local community here either. by the way, My name’s Mark, and i’m def not anonymous….

We’ll be driving from Bozeman to our campground in West Yellowstone on September 22nd. We’re looking for recommendations on stops along the way to spot wildlife (grizzlies, bison, elk, etc.).
Would really appreciate your recommendations and responses!
