hi fellow basset lovers! I’m here looking for some support and or reassurance. We got our second basset hound last year who we absolutely adore. Our dogs are our world. We currently are struggling with walking our dogs. If anyone has walked a basset hound, you know, but two together is so hard. We both work full time (me as a nightshift RN) and we are expecting a baby soon. Our dogs getting walked is very important to us, but my body literally cannot handle walking the two together it hurts my back/pelvis with the constant sniffing, refusing to walk, pulling. I feel so guilty because they used to get walked all the time and now I can’t do it unless my spouse is here, so the end up only getting a few walks per week. Not to mention walking isn’t exercise for me if I’m stopping every few feet. We do have a large yard they play in and we play fetch with them etc, I just feel like I suck as a dog parent. Just looking for any suggestions of any of you who’ve been in the same boat as us. Also please be nice I’m pregnant and sensitive 🥲

So I got my boy Bailey when he was a puppy almost 9 years ago. He’s made 4 moves in the military with me and has been there with me through my highest highs and lowest lows. He’s comforted me when heartbroken and weighted blanket whenever I needed it.

After he’s lost almost 20 pounds in the course of 3 months we found out today that he has a massive tumor in his abdomen and his spine is almost completely fused from arthritis. The vet says he’s probably only got 1-2 good weeks left.

That’s news I never expected to hear. I thought I had time. I thought he’d be here to meet and play with my daughter after she’s born. I thought we’d have more movie nights curled up on the floor. More car rides that ended at our favorite ice cream spot. One vet appointment and everything has changed.

It’s an understatement to say this boy saved my life more than once. I just hope I was able to give him half of what he’s given me.

To anyone reading this. Hold your pups tight. There’s no such thing as too many pets. If they make a mess or tear something up clean it up and move on. Your time with them is limited and one day you’ll miss everything about them.

I apologize for the sad post but I’m just devastated. It’s my turn to be strong for him.

A small kitten found its way into my yard this morning while I was outside sitting on my deck. My 4 yr old, Laney made a new friend. I've always wondered how she would react if a cat came in the yard because she always chases them when they are outside of the fence running by. But this morning one came in and she had the best time playing with it. The only downside was the poor kitty was all wet with licks by the time it wandered back out the small hole and left to go back to the neighbors house. They both seemed to have a great time playing together. I only wished that I hadn't left my phone in the house so I could take a picture or video.

Cannoli, extremely sleepy, needs a nap….. but there’s mac and cheese on the line and he simply MUST stay awake!

I’m weirdly excited for this. Every time a basset is in a movie they always make them lazy and dopey which is true but they aren’t always like that so I’m weirdly excited about this movie because it looks like this one won’t be just like that. Also if it dies I’m quitting Netflix. If they kill any dog in a Christmas movie I’ll be pissed off.

36 hours 4 dog parks,1 hotel ,a ferry ride and more carrot sticks than I can count, we are home. We have met Murphy the beagle and Sherlock the cat with zero issues so far. but daddy is broken and has a migraine (im very tired)

Hey everyone. Please keep my girl in your thoughts for these next few days. Her name is Bells, she just turned 10 a few days ago. She’s been destructive due to the loss of her brother 3 weeks ago. In addition to being in the middle of a move. Today she ate through her bottle of meds; 30 apoquel chewable prescription meds.

Please be aware, yes, it is toxic at high doses. They can OD. She made it to UrgentVet just in time. I truly believe she had maybe an hour left.

She’s staying overnight, up to 3 days, for lipids/IV. This is a very serious situation

If something like this happens to you immediately call poison control. ASPCA’s poison control number is (888) 426-4435. The Dr. said there have been an increased number in toxicology reports due to chewable apoquel overconsumption. (I’m not a dr & it’s been a stressful day. I’m not sure if I said that exactly right). Dogs are getting into them more frequently due to them smelling/tasting like treats

We are a couple in our 30’s in Chicago looking to grow our family by adding a Bassett. I grew up with one named Gertrude who I loved so much and i want to have another Bassett in my life. Would prefer to adopt a Bassett >1 year old and house trained. Have looked at rescue orgs near Chicago but unfortunately have not heard back from them or they require a fenced yard which we do not have access to in the city (although we have a dog park across the street). Please let me know any leads!
