Question Question about Sanskrit spelling

• Upvotes

I am Balinese.

I'd like to use the Sanskrit name Vani, and would prefer it spelt with a 'v', but from my understanding, shouldn't be written as Wani for the Indonesian form?

Even so, I've discovered that there are Indonesians (particularly Javanese) whose Sanskrit names don't follow that spelling, for some reason. Like, Sarasvati for example should be written as Saraswati, but I can still find people named Sarasvati.

How strict is the change from 'w' to 'v' in Indonesian names? Is it purely personal preference? I'm really confused and can't find anything on this topic.

Trip Report Lost Osmo Pocket 4 on Oct 15

Me and my friend lost our DJI Osmo Pocket 4 on October 15.
It was last used while travelling on Motorcycle to Mie Gacoan in Canggu from Tunu Bristro on Jl. Raya Kedampang Road around evening time. Afterwards, we went back to the villa to repack and get ready to go airport arriving at 8:58pm. We then repacked our bags again before checking in.

We have contacted Airport, Grab and Villa but it was not found unfortunately.

The camera contains special memories of my friend's parents in Sydney during mid September and our own recordings in Indonesia from 15 Sept to 15 Oct, at Nusa Penida, Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, Bali (Sanur, Ubud, Kuta, Nusa Dua, Canggu).

If anyone has found the camera, please contact me. We will gladly arrange a reward for the safe recovery of the memories. Please share this post around which will be of great help.

Question Arriving this weekend - any signs fuel crisis ending soon?

I’m going to be in Ubud only. Are restaurants or other businesses closed for reasons tied to the fuel crisis like staff can’t get to work?

Is there any indication it will be over soon?

I’m really worried

Itinerary Question First time going to Bali with the boys 🇮🇩 – Need advice!

Hey guys, me and four of my boys are heading to Bali from January 14th to 26th. We’re all in our early 20s and it’s our first time travelling, so we’re pretty new to all of this.
We’re keen to do pretty much everything, like jet skiing, water activities, quad biking, exploring beaches and other fun activities. We also want to go out partying on the weekends but spend the weekdays shopping, massage and relaxing by the beach.
Where would you guys recommend staying? Should we stay in one area or move around? What are the best activities, beaches and nightlife spots we shouldn’t miss?
Also, any tips for first-timers travelling to Bali from Australia would be appreciated. Cheers! 🍻

Information First family trip to Bali in August 2027 – where to stay?

Hello everyone.

We're planning our first family trip to Bali from the UK in August 2027 for around 15–16 days.

We'll be travelling with our two daughters, aged around 6½ years and 21 months at the time.

From what I've been reading, Sanur seems to be highly recommended for families with young children, so we're considering staying there for part of our trip.

Where else would you recommend staying? We'd ideally like to split our holiday between two different areas rather than spend the entire time in one resort.

We're looking for somewhere family-friendly, with lovely resorts, beaches, restaurants, shops and opportunities to experience the local culture.

We'd prefer quieter areas rather than places dominated by nightlife, clubs and parties.

Also, as a Muslim family, having good access to halal restaurants is important to us.

Would love to hear your recommendations on areas, resorts and how you'd split 15–16 days!

Is it too many days or just the right amount?

Thank you! Open to any suggestions.

Question Questions about Savaya?

Looking to go to Savaya just on a general admission ticket as vip is out of our budget.

We just want to hang out at the pool for abit and then maybe get dressed later and enjoy the DJ.

My question is there any chairs/loungers available by the pool for general admission folk?

I don't mind not having a permanent table or daybed but I just don't want to be standing around awkwardly everywhere, I don't mind moving around throughout the day/evening if there are places to relax?

Also is there a restaurant there where general admission could get a table and eat for abit?

Just looking for anyone with experience to give me the vibes before I go.... Thanks!

Question Nightlife recommendations in Canggu (tailored to me)

Hello I need some recommendations of where to go out for the weekend and I guess best days throughout the week. I’ve been here for a few days already but only go to the beach to surf because I’m down the street and it’s a 3 minute walk.
About me: 29, Hispanic American, casual drinker, male, I like house/edm/reggaeton/pop/rap/death metal
I’m looking for speak easy, bars, clubs that have good turnouts and worth going to.
I’m a solo traveler but I’ve been traveling throughout Asia for the last year and I plan on being here for a couple months.
Please let me know what everyone recommends.
Thank you

Trip Report VOA online is broken

Just had an argument with my wife trying to navigate the broken website. She had the onward booking details so it requires both of us... And the website is just timing out, or just doing something stupid.

This is not a good way to start a holiday.

Question Where to buy a floatie pererenan

Hey y’all
I’ve been in Bali for 3 days now with my family and we are absolutely enjoying this wonderful place. Where we live we have a pool and the kids are begging for some kind of floatie. I’ve been googling and it seems that I have to either rent one or buy online.
Does anyone know of a physical store where I could get a floatie for kids. Would a big supermarket carry stuff like that?
I’m in pererenan area.

Question What is this? NSFW

Yesterday, I was sitting on a wooden chair when I suddenly felt a sharp sting, followed by intense itching. There was absolutely nothing visible on my skin at first, but this morning I woke up with this large, red, raised, bumpy rash.
It’s been over 24 hours now, and the itching has mostly stopped, but the rash still looks pretty intense.
Has anyone experienced anything similar in Bali? Any idea what could have caused this? I’ve never had a reaction like this before, so I’m curious what it might be.

Travel alert Heads-up about serious fuel shortages

Fuel has run out in many places in Bali and it’s apparently not expected to be resolved within the next 2 days, as the senator stated.

This will of course affect all transport but also indirectly possibly the stocking of shops and whether places can even open up. I already heard of 1 place where not all employees could make it there today.

I haven’t looked further into why this is happening now and who dropped the ball.

Question Best Indonesian dishes that you personally love?

I’ve asked a few locals here and there and have had stuff like Babi Guling, Nasi Campur, mee goreng, rendang, ayam batutu etc.

Are there any dishes that might not be the most popular dish that you love?

Where I come from there are absolutely no Indonesian restaurants so I’m trying to make the most of my holiday here.

Question [Bali/Indonesia] any special requirements for flying drones ?

Hello.

I am new to drones, i am a registered operator in EU (Romania) and my drone is a DJI Neo 2 (so C0, sub 250g).

Anything special to be aware of in Indonesia, Bali specifically ?

I know i am not allowed to fly around the airport and the shrines, any other limitations ?

Do i need anything extra, for example to register with Bali or Indonesian authorities ?

Any info from sombody living in Bali or who was recently there would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Question How to find fellow solo buddy in Bali?

Hi! I'll be in Bali from 23–30 November, travelling solo, and thought I'd see if anyone else will be around during that period!

I'm hoping to find a fellow female traveller (I'm female in my 30s) who's interested in trying gyms, Pilates, spin or other fitness studios, but feels a little awkward or intimidated about going alone. 😂 Sometimes it's just nice to have someone to go with when trying somewhere new!

A little about me: I'm generally quite quiet and introverted, and I enjoy having my own space, so I'm not really looking for someone to spend every waking moment with. But I also think it'd be nice to have a buddy to encourage each other to try new things, grab meals or coffee occasionally, or explore together when our plans align.

Basically, I'm hoping to find someone who enjoys travelling independently but would also appreciate a bit of companionship along the way. No pressure to do everything together, and we're totally free to do our own thing!

If you're a fellow solo female traveller who gets what I mean, feel free to drop me a message. Would be nice to connect before the trip and maybe plan a class or two together!

Female travellers only, please :)

Information Kopi Bali fragrance

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hello,

I visited back in May 2025 and I had a driver for hire for 7 days (such a nice dude). He had this freshener hanging in his car (coffee version) and I think it’s called Kopi Bali fragrance. He was based out of ubud but he bought it from somewhere near ubud but could be available near uluwatu.

I tried few versions on Amazon but nothing came close to this. Can anyone recommend where I can buy this? I am in Canada now. Or if any fellow Canadians coming back can bring this for me, and I will pay of course. 😅

Question Reasonably priced gyms near Kuta

Hi all,

Fly out in Saturday to spend 3 weeks there.
Will be staying in Kuta so looking for a reasonably priced gym near-by. What can I expect to pay for a week or maybe month membership? Any recommendations for gyms in that area?

Thanks
