my pet turkey, leonard, injured his back about a month ago after being chased by a dog. he was initially completely paralyzed in both legs, but over the past few weeks, he’s slowly regained movement and can now bear a good amount of weight with assistance!

he’s been in a supportive sling for about a month, which allows him to extend and move his legs. however, he still can’t stand or walk independently. we’ve recently started assisted walking exercises, but we’re unsure if we’re doing them correctly. his toes also sometimes curl underneath his feet, and he’s developed some pressure sores from the sling. he's also finally eating on his own but refuses to drink water so we are giving it to him from a tube daily.

our vet has recommended continuing the sling but hasn’t provided much guidance on rehabilitation. i’m wondering what exercises or next steps would be recommended to help him regain strength and hopefully walk again.

i’d be so grateful for any advice! leonard has made so much progress, and i really want to give him the best chance at recovering. please let me know any advice you have, or if you know of any sanctuaries or rehabilitation centers in south florida :)
