About LA What's your biggest LA-specific fear?
I'll go first: old people in Porsche 911s swerving into both lanes on Sunset. Anything to add?

This is our monthly pinned space where we loosen the rules a little. Normally, /r/AskLosAngeles is strictly for questions about the Los Angeles area - but here, we make room for more community-oriented stuff.
Such as:
If you've got thoughts about how this subreddit is moderated, or ideas for future pinned threads, drop them here too.
Please see our rules, there are some recent changes. Notably, these rules have been added:

Some of these rules are relaxed in this specific "Open Discussion" post so feel free to break rules here if you'd like.

AskLA is meant to be a place to ask and answer questions about the Los Angeles area. Due to the upcoming primary and general elections, this subreddit has been a frequent place to ask questions of a political nature and while these are legitimate questions about the area, the intention of the posters making these questions have been either to astroturf particular candidates or to sway opinions this close to the poll dates.
As a result, I'd like to discourage standalone threads that are political in nature and would welcome these discussions to be initiated in the monthly pinned "Open Discussion" thread.
This community also relies on user reports so you can report political posts under rule #2, "Posts must be questions about Los Angeles.
Thank you for being a community that moderates itself with the lightest touch.

Now with the Netflix layoffs I know my contract won’t be extended. Took me a year to get a new job and that new job lasted 3 months 🫠
I don’t have a car so cannot do any uber / delivery stuff.
How do you find a job and what jobs do you do that don’t make you wanna die inside after working in entertainment prior to that?

Curious + what times of day do you usually go?

Pretty much the title, where would you live?
Why there?
How would you spend your time?
Edit: so many different interesting answers, what a massive city…

Dog poo is everywhere and it's just sad. Is this a big city in the US thing or specifically LA thing? I swear I haven't nearly as bad in NYC and Chicago.

I take my time to clean and empty bottles and cans, sort my recycling and put compostable waste in the green bins. Today was pickup day on my block and I checked the blue and green bins in my strip of houses. Literally every single one had regular trash dumped and comingled into the bins. Both blue and green bins - filled with rubbish. Why are my neighbors so lazy? It’s not like we don’t have enough black bins for all the trash. I have to imagine that the majority of what is picked up for recycling and composting ends up in the landfill anyway. It’s ridiculous. We pay upwards of $50/mo now for the service of having three trucks come and pickup once a week. What’s the point? We might as well just cut the programs if everyone is going to just toss their nasty trash in them.

I work in entertainment, and I dont think I need to explain much how much our jobs got hit recently. I need to find something different as I cannot find new gigs anymore 🤷🏻♀️
I noticed public library in DTLA has job sources that can help with resume, and job applications. I am coming from a high creative leadership positions at big studios but roles like mine are being made redundant, therefore
Is it gonna be helpful only for “survival” jobs and I’ll need to heavily adjust my resume for roles below my experience?
Did anyone here actually got hired for anything through this support?
Honestly, I just wanna find something that will help me pay rent and if it’s creative I’ll be happy (I can do graphic design / marketing / social media if needed). Otherwise, I’m willing to do anything between gigs really. Just curious how realistic this help can be!

So I know this is an insane question because there are just too many spots but if you had one meal to bring a visitor to LA where woukd you choose?
Context: this is a friend from New England who knows great pizza and is a regular visitor to Mexico so I’m thinking Mexican and pizza are out. I’m also going to bring him to a burger stand on a different night
But one night, a great LA sit down meal.
Highland Park - Silverlake area
Halloween
I’ve already booked Tam O’Shanter but if you have any gems let me know
Thank you all

Excited to finally visit The Baked Potato! I know it's a teeny tiny venue so I'd love to be able to get seats for my parents to sit for the show. Should we just show up at 7pm? Earlier? I've never been but excited to see the vibe! Thanks!

"We are a couple in our 30s with one doggo. We are moving for work from SF. I will be working in Burbank and my wife will be working in glendale. We're looking for the best neighborhood for us. Our top priority is being able to walk to buy a cup of coffee. We're looking at either Santa Monica, Calabasas, or Culver city. What do you guys think?"

Need good coffee shop recommendations in DTLA, a plus if they have good small breakfast bites. I go to my LA office often and have not found the right one.
Is there one that is good for grab and go, then another one to maybe sit down and have a coffee while doing some laptop work?

Hi AskLA! I need some honest advice about a potentially unrealistic want. I am flying into Burbank airport on Friday 10/23, flight estimated to land around 6:10pm. I am staying ether Hollywood Lowe’s Hotel.
There is a show at the Hollywood Bowl that night at 8pm. I already have tickets and I am planning on attending the Saturday 10/24 show, but now the adventurous spirit in me is wondering if I could last minute attend the 10/23 show.
I would be Ubering from the airport. I will need to stop at the Lowe’s Hollywood to check in/ drop off bags. From there, I was planning on walking up the hill to the Hollywood Bowl.
So AskLA, how unrealistic is this? I don’t mind being a bit late to the show. I’ve never been to Hollywood so I am in the dark here. I don’t mind taking some risks and accepting defeat if my flight is delayed- and I’m okay eating that cost. But- if the flight lands on time, is this a realistic plan? I am young, able bodied, and do really well under time crunches and pressure.

I'm a big bread person and lately I've been feeling like I need to up my game. The grocery store stuff is just okay but I know there has to be better out there. Looking for a legit bakery that has amazing sourdough or a nice baguette. Any hidden gems I should check out in the city?

The L.A. metro area has some of the best high school football teams in the country including St. John Bosco, Santa Margarita, Mater Dei, and Corona Centennial, which produce many D1 football recruits.
How popular is high school football in this region? Is it common for people in SoCal to follow high school football (whether their local teams specifically, or high school football in general), excluding the players themselves and their parents? Is it anything like Texas or the Deep South with their Friday Night Lights scene?

Has anyone had any luck with getting speed bumps, crosswalks, stop signs, or traffic enforcement on dangerous streets?
Context: I live on Colfax Ave in Studio City, between Moorpark and Ventura. It’s a 35 mph stretch lined with apartment buildings and townhomes, but motorists frequently drive as much as double the speed limit. It’s a wide and flat road with unprotected bike lanes, so it’s designed to be abused. There are accidents fairly regularly, and near misses many times a day. Today there was another accident with injuries.
I emailed CD2 Councilmember Adrin Nazarian’s office about this a few months ago, but was genuinely disappointed with the response. Specifically, I was told the speed bump program had been discontinued.
What should I do next? I’m pretty committed to making this stretch of road safer. Does anyone have any insight or tips on how to escalate this initiative?

Title. Thought that I would be able to hold off until payday to get the reservations, but oh well. does anybody know if they offer walk-up/stand-by tickets? And if so, is it at any time of the day or when it gets closer to closing hours? Thanks!

I pot off looking into wash and fold for months because I assumed it was going to be $200 plus s month. I'm spending every looking at actual numbers
From what I'm seeing the average cost of wash and fold laundry service in LA runs about $1.40 to $3/lb depending on neighborhood and whether delivery is included. Westside spots seem to run higher and Koreatown looks more reasonable for drop off. At my volume of 20 to 25 pounds a week that puts me somewhere around $90 to $120 a month, which is way less than the $200 I was scaring myself with
Is that about what people here are actually paying? and if you're around ktown or mid city, is there a drop off spot or delivery service you'd actually go back to?

I’m considering renting a unit in this building & would love to hear from anyone who currently lives there or has lived there in the past. How has your experience been? Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

I'm visiting socal the 2nd week of November and I really want to play MTG while I'm there. During the day I'll be hanging with a bud of mine but during the late afternoon or evening I'll love to play some magic the gathering shops!
Does anyone have any recommendations?

Hi everyone!
I just secured some tickets to Calvin Harris in May and I was wondering some questions about parking/ safety as I’m not too familiar with LA. I bought parking at 323 N. Prairie Ave Garage and I just wanted to know how it is safety wise walking to the forum and back? Previously for Bruno I had purchased parking at Kelso Elementary but I saw that this parking garage was pricing for 15 dollars vs Kelso at 85, so I wanted to save some money. If anyone can give advice on the safety of the area since it’ll be me and my girl friends. Thank you kindly everyone!

Hi all! I’m an early 30sf considering moving from the Seattle area to LA for a job and one of the major pieces giving me pause is the outdoor culture. In Seattle, I sail, surf, climb, hike, and backpack/camp in stunning and lush mountains. Everything is so easily accessible and I’m rarely more than 20 min from water access.
Obviously LA is very different, but what are y’all’s outdoor experiences/access, favorite places to go, and tips to getting out to nature?
I don’t know what neighborhood I’d move to yet so if that influences access, I’d also love to know.
Thank you in advance!!
