Hey everyone!
I’ll be visiting Berlin from October 19–22 for a work trip, and I’ll be staying near a train station. My work will usually finish around 5 PM, so I’ll have the evenings free to explore the city on my own.
I’m travelling from India, and this will be my first time exploring Berlin solo. I’m looking for recommendations beyond the usual tourist checklist!
A little about me and what I enjoy:
Food: Local favourites, street food, affordable places to eat, interesting food markets, and anything I shouldn’t leave Berlin without trying.
Activities: Fun, casual experiences where I can actually do something rather than just walk around museums all day.
Socialising: I’d love to meet people, join a group activity, go to a board-game night, or find a relaxed pub/bar where it’s easy to strike up conversations.
Chess: I enjoy playing chess, so if there are any chess cafés, clubs, casual meetups, or public spots where people play, I’d love to check them out.
Nightlife: Open to checking out Berlin’s nightlife, but I’m equally happy with a chill evening, good food, and interesting conversations.
A few questions for Berlin locals and people who’ve visited:
If you had just 3 evenings in Berlin, how would you spend them?
What are your favourite affordable local food spots that tourists usually miss?
Are there any regular group activities, social events, pub quizzes, board-game nights, or chess meetups happening on weekday evenings?
Which neighbourhoods would you recommend for a solo traveller who wants to experience the city without spending a fortune?
Any places or experiences you’d recommend avoiding, or practical tips you’d give someone visiting for the first time?
I’m also happy to meet up with locals or fellow travellers for a meal, a game of chess, or exploring a neighbourhood together. Always nice to experience a city through the people who live there!
I’m not looking for an overly packed itinerary. I’d rather discover a few great places, eat well, meet interesting people, and get a feel for the city.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations! :)

On Friday, October 16, around 7 pm, I was taking the S2 to Friedrichstadt-Palast. Near the train doors, I asked a blonde woman with her hair tied back and a camera in a case around her neck which stop I needed for Oranienburger Straße. She kindly told me I had just one more stop to go.
We exchanged only a few words, but you seemed really nice, and I found myself wishing I’d started a conversation with you.
If you happen to recognise yourself and remember that little encounter, I’d be happy to invite you for a coffee sometime. Sometimes a brief encounter leaves you wishing you’d said a little more.
No pressure at all — just thought I’d take a chance.

Hey Berlin! 👋

Hi!
Me (29M) and my partner (30M) are visiting Berlin and we are looking for some who speaks Spanish to have a drink or smoke in a park or something like that this Tuesday Abend.

After 8 months I finally found a flat to rent; however, now that I received the contract I’ve got cold feet.
Can anyone share how it is to be living around U Alt Mariendorf? More precisely in Richterstrasse?
Any opinions (positive or negative) very welcomed.
Edit: And yes I already visited the area a few times but I really wanna hear people that know/live there.

Visiting Berlin for 3-4 days. Been 10 years since last visit. Now I bring four kids to your lovely city. Looking for place to chill, have a beer and were the kids can play and run free for a bit and not annoy everybody in the place. Can be inside, out side. We like more parcs than indoor playgrounds. If they sell coffee and beer would be great :)

Hello everyone!
I'm a Turkish architect currently living in Berlin and studying for an MBA in Project Management also I had company in Hungary before coming here.
My current student residence permit does not allow self-employment. As far as I understand, I can apply to the Berlin Ausländerbehörde (LEA) for permission to become self-employed.
I submitted an online application almost two months ago and uploaded all the required documents, but I haven't received any updates yet.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Is there another legal way to start selling my designs while waiting for a decision, or is there anything else I can do to move the process forward?
I'd really appreciate any advice or personal experiences.
Thank you so much for your time!

Hallo zusammen,

berlin is always awake so basically when i would go home and take the U öder S Bahn from having like otherworldly trippy experiences, someone is doing the same thing, but theirs was a dream and when they wake up they have to be mindlessly working while looking at a bright screen and then on top of all of that: a fucking neon black half naked person gets on the Metro or Train next to you. the smell of sex, the grinding of teeth, the pumping of the heart, the taste of that last bit of saliva, holding on for dear life till they get somewhere, maybe home, maybe an after, maybe a park, who tf knows
do you as a working class berliner still get the same shock when you see someone like that? what does it take for you to notice them if you don’t?
i feel like ‘berlin normal’ does not live up to to anything like that elsewhere. a berlin normal would probably trigger a heart attack if they would get on the train in turkey like that. but a turkish woman in berlin might be like ah just another day in berlin.

I want to lower my rent. I don’t want to use Conny or Allright DE because they keep the overpaid money. I l also can’t use the Mieterverein because I signed my lease before joining. Has anyone used Mietorcas? And would you recommend them?

hello everybody!
me and my boyfriend (26f&27m) have been thinking for over a year now of moving to berlin! i’m looking to see if people have got any tips for us? we both work in hospitality and currently live in the uk, but i am romanian and i have a romanian passport. how hard would moving be from the uk for a uk and non-uk, but eu, citizens?
also id like to know more about how hard it would be to find accommodations and jobs if anyone has any suggestions? :) i’m currently in some groups on other social media platform but they mainly post accommodation listings and not much information per se
we visited berlin this time last year and absolutely loved it and we think it’d be great for our creative minds, hence why we’re considering moving there :)

Hi everyone,
I'm on a Chancenkarte valid until 17 June 2027 and have no family or close support in Germany, so I'm hoping to get some advice from people who've been through this.
I've been job hunting in performance marketing, but the market is really tough right now. I have limited time on my visa, so I want to use every month wisely. I'm considering three options and plan to ask my Agentur für Arbeit advisor about them:
Weiterbildung in performance marketing (4-6 months): It would refresh my skills, but there's no guarantee of a job afterwards.
Vermittlungsgutschein: Has anyone used one with a private recruitment agency? Did it actually lead to interviews or offers?
German course (B1/B2): Would help long term, but I'm worried about the time it takes.
My questions:
